Ok....now this is what happens :teresa:

 

 

 

Sinerklaas comes into the country with a boat somewhere in November and when he's here the kids can put their shoes in front of the fire place at some nights, they fill them with something to eat or drink for the horse or Zwarte Piet and a nice drawing for Sinterklaas!!!

Then they make sure they sing a nice “Sinterklaasliedje” before they go to bed.

When the kids are fast asleep the Zwarte Pieten come and put something nice in the shoes of the kids.

This can be a small present but most of the time it’s sweets.

On the 5th of December (Sinterklaas’s birthday) they visit all the kids on “Pakjesavond” to give them presents!!!!!

This is always very exciting for the kids…..do they get what they have asked for on their “verlanglijstje”……

Grown ups give eachother presents but they have to be wrapped in a special way (we call them surprises).

We wrap the presents up in something funny....something that's connected to the person who gets the present :naughty:

For most Dutch people the wrapping and the poem (that needs to be there aswell) is more important them the present itself....this is the perfect way to make fun of each other and remind them about something nice, funny, silly or whatever they did the last 12 months :naughty: :naughty:
