If I'm telling the truth, she really dosn't deserve it for her album to go to #1 that week.

No one deserves anything in music. It's about what the public want to hear and are willing to spend money on.

Leona beating Spice Girls in album chart

Leona Lewis has taken the lead in her battle against the Spice Girls for the number one album next week.

Lewis' debut Spirit is reportedly outselling the Spice Girls' Greatest Hits by six to one in pre-sales.

Her album is also expected to surpass the Arctic Monkeys' Favourite Worst Nightmare LP as the biggest-selling pre-release of the year.

An industry insider told the Mirror: "The Spice Girls may have a fanatical following but even they can't derail that juggernaut that's Leona Lewis.

"The amazing sales of her single 'Bleeding Love' only served to ramp up enthusiasm for her album. Leona is well out in front."

Amazon's head of music buying, Julian Monaghan commented: "This is an incredible result for Leona Lewis.

"When you look at our most pre-ordered artist in previous years, it has been the likes of the Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay and Dido."

Leona Lewis's debut album Spirit has become the biggest selling pre-order CD of the year on Amazon.co.uk.

The Syco issued album, which is out on Monday (November 12), has achieved the most pre-orders of any album since Arctic Monkey’s debut effort Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not in January 2006.

Amazon.co.uk head of music buying Julian Monaghan says, "Reality TV has been responsible for some of the biggest acts in the UK over recent years with the likes of Girls Aloud and Will Young becoming household names but the interest in Leona Lewis seems to be on a much greater level and that is translating into sales. It is fair to say that this is the most anticipated album of the year.

"It will be interesting to see how Shayne Ward fairs when his new album is released on November 26. It may be that the UK public only have room in their musical affections for one X Factor winner and that certainly will be Leona Lewis over this Christmas period."

"What remains to be seen is whether the success of Leona Lewis will totally overshadow this year’s X Factor winner. Although waiting a year to release an album has undoubtedly been a masterstroke for Leona, it may mean that Rhydian, Niki, Hope or whoever it is that walks away with the title, might not enjoy the same success as winners in previous years."

A year working her hardest on her album which you just happen to not really like and so she doesn't deserve it?

But yeah, a rushed together Greatest Hits from The Spice Girls with just two added tracks (which are really not that great) deserves to?

Neither do, like previously said, it should be Led Zepplin.

It should be whoever the public want to spend their hard earned money on. Whether you like it or not, that happens to be Leona, and I for one am glad. We need fresh blood in music. And even though I don't think music is about who deserves what, if I was to say anyone did deserve it, it would be Leona. Most of the competition are established artists who have already had their time in the sun. Let someone new and talented like Leona have their time to shine! :cheer:

Nice post, and completely agree.

So i wonder if Leona can be the highest selling single of this year today?

She needs 100,000 copies to do it and from Sunday-Thursday was 75,000 so its possible
