The annual poll, which has been won by Beth Ditto, Pete Doherty and Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner in previous years, was headed by the punk band's heavily-tattooed frontman. Carter has hit the headlines during the year for his various onstage antics, such as getting a tattoo live onstage at the Reading Festival. The rocker revealed in September that he was planning to design a series of Alan Partridge-themed tattoos. However, Carter's band's last single, 'In The Belly Of A Shark', failed to break into the UK top 40, charting at number 56. Entries from Noel Gallagher (16), Prince (14), Thom Yorke (12) and Keith Richards (10), made it the oldest ever Cool List. Conor McNicholas, the magazine's editor, said of the list: "Thirty years after the height of punk there are a whole load of new bands making wild and passionate noise. "But it takes more than just great music to make it to the top of the Cool List - these people effortlessly set trends with every breath they take." The magazine also released a list of stars, who they believe have 'lost it' in the past year, which was headed up by Hard-Fi frontman Richard Archer and the Sugababes. The Cool List in full: 1. Frank Carter - Gallows 2. Jamie Reynolds - Klaxons 3. Lovefoxxx - CSS 4. Ryan Jarman - The Cribs 5. Lethal Bizzle 6. Alex Turner - Arctic Monkeys 7. Kate Nash 8. Amy Winehouse 9. Beth Ditto -The Gossip 10. Keith Richards -The Rolling Stones The 'Had it lost it' list in full: 1. Richard Archer 2. Sugababes 3. Donny Tourette 4. The Libertines 5. Kanye West 6. Iggy Pop 7. Mystery Jets 8. Paul Smith, Maximo Park 9. Paul Mullen To be honest I think this list is complete balls. I mean LOL at the #1. He's anything but cool. :\ Nice to see Alex making a high appearance though! ^_^ And the had it and lost it list. I really don't see how 6 of the acts/artists that are in there are!
November 7, 200717 yr Why is Paul Smith on the 'Had It' List  He is one of the best frontmen of the 21st century  That list is a joke -_-
November 8, 200717 yr Why do NME always go on about Sugababes? Its like, this list of indie acts, and then Sugababes :| I find it weird. I've never heard of this Frank :( Edited November 8, 200717 yr by •Ryan•
November 8, 200717 yr Why is Paul Smith on the 'Had It' List  He is one of the best frontmen of the 21st century  That list is a joke -_- They didn't seem to like Our Earthly Pleasures at all for some reason, they probably just wanted A Certain Trigger part two -_- I for one like it better than ACT personally. Why not go on about the Sugababes? I like mostly Indie acts and I LOVE the Sugababes! I like Girls Aloud too!

I LOVE the Sugababes  I just find it weird NME mention them alot. But its good for the band i suppose :P
November 8, 200717 yr Author Oooooh i'm not saying dont mention them. I LOVE the Sugababes  I just find it weird NME mention them alot. But its good for the band i suppose :P I don't know why they've gone on about them either. :( They've just had a #1 hit and a #1 album yet NME don't find them cool? Same goes for Richard Archer, he's just had a #1 album with Hard-Fi. I don't see how they've both lost it at all. Same goes for most of the people on that list bar a couple.

Donny Tourette never had it in the first place  and The Libertines havent had a new album out, cept a GH. So they havent done anything to actually lose it? Seems a bit weird.

I know. It's like they've a list of people on a sheet of paper and each person takes it in turn to be blindfolded and point at a random person/act. Some of the choices really are stupid.
November 9, 200717 yr Libertines 'lost it' because they were set to be the band of the decade and they buggered it all up so yeah they lost it but not in the same sense as the rest of the list is supposed to have done. Richard Archer never really had it anyway imo (sorry Josh :P ) apart from a couple of songs but they mean they thought Hard-Fi's first album was great but they weren't fans of their latest effort.
November 10, 200717 yr Richard Archer "lost it" cause the new hard fi album is c**p... alex deserves that place cause i dont find it cool anymore to release from the best album of the year only 3 singles , with that way...but that s somethin personal i suposse..alex should hear Liam Gallagher...if you wanna be the band of the people jsut give your music to them n not try to become a "lo-fi" band or whatever...anyway
