Leona Lewis has taken the lead in her battle against the Spice Girls for the number one album next week.

Lewis' debut Spirit is reportedly outselling the Spice Girls' Greatest Hits by six to one in pre-sales.

Her album is also expected to surpass the Arctic Monkeys' Favourite Worst Nightmare LP as the biggest-selling pre-release of the year.

An industry insider told the Mirror: "The Spice Girls may have a fanatical following but even they can't derail that juggernaut that's Leona Lewis.

"The amazing sales of her single 'Bleeding Love' only served to ramp up enthusiasm for her album. Leona is well out in front."

Amazon's head of music buying, Julian Monaghan commented: "This is an incredible result for Leona Lewis.

"When you look at our most pre-ordered artist in previous years, it has been the likes of the Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay and Dido."

Pre orders?

TBH I think she will smash them  They pulled ou to avoid Westlife when they'd probably have stood a better chance against them than Leona

Trust you to fall for the bull$h!t that comes out of Louis Walsh's mouth.

They did not pull out of a Nov 5th release date to avoid Westlife, but because of Mel B's continued involvement in the USA equivalent of Strictly Come Dancing (Dancing With The Stars) where she has now made the final 4, despite the fact that she was the least famous person from an American perspective on that show and they changed their promotional plans so that they could promote the single & album on the release date of Mon 12th November due to the Football International break with Victoria's hubby in the England squad set up that week across Europe.

But with Mel B still in Dancing With The Stars (it would be like having T-Boz or Chilli (from TLC) entering Strictly Come Dancing and making the last 3), that has been scuppered, so for example their live performance for Children In Need next Friday will be on satellite from LA, California.

How rude :o

I don't believe anything that disgusting man says! I just remember reading something about it on here :P

best bit is I have pre-ordered both :kink:

Leona is on the way, and the Spicey box set isn't due to set sail until Wednesday :manson:

HAHA that makes me laugh! they under estimated leona. Ironically they probaly would of been number one against west life.

Oh I don't think there's any question tbh she'll beat Arctic Monkeys first week sales for their latest album.

I wonder though, maybe she might actually smash their record for the highest first week sales for a debut album? I doubt it, but y'never know I guess! :o

I think a better question is - would she have outsold the Spices when they were in their prime...?

I don't think thats a relevant point really. I mean ... it could be attributed to anything. Its like asking if Westlife could challenge the Beatles in their heyday?

Leona's going to do really well with her album and good luck to her. I'm sure the Spices will be happy with number 2 - they do advocate Girl Power after all .... surely they wouldn't begrudge Leona.

mmm i can't believe.. Leona 500,000 in first week?? more than james blunt?? ...........

I don't think she'll get that much in her first week.

T-Boz and Chilli.

And yeah, I agree.

I got this from Perez Hilton...

Wow. Wow. Wow.

Leona Lewis‘ debut album comes out next week in the U.K., the same time the Spice Girls are releasing their Greatest Hits CD. And, our little Leona is pretty much assured the #1 spot!

Lewis’ debut, Spirit, is outselling the Spice Girls’ Greatest Hits by six to one in pre-sales. That’s mayjah!

Her album is also expected to surpass the Arctic Monkeys‘ Favourite Worst Nightmare as the biggest-selling pre-release of the year.

Leona is expected to sell over 500,000 albums next week!

Her single, Bleeding Love, is the #1 song in the U.K. for the second week in a row. It’s also the biggest selling single of the year, already having sold almost a million copies.

Not bad for a girl that was working in Pizza Hut not that long ago!

Congrats Leona!

Slight exaggeration me thinks

What bull$h!t

Almost a million copies. :drama:

It’s also the biggest selling single of the year, already having sold almost a million copies.
I thought it was under 500,000.

44 03 Nov 218.805 Leona Lewis Bleeding Love

45 10 Nov 158.370 Leona Lewis Bleeding Love

Ignore the "reviews" just one person's opinion as always. At the end of the day what you think is the most important thing.
