November 12, 200717 yr Agreed. Whitney's debut album was far far better than Leona's is. Exactly, Whitney's was stunning I still listen to it regularly even now along with the other 2 I listed, Leona's I won't be buying because it just did nothing for me, I would not say it was bad or c**p it was just one of those ok-ish to reasonably good albums that clutter up record stores, this album has been hyped for months and months and we have been spoonfed hyperbole about worlds greatest producers and so on so the album doesn't live up to the hype. Leona won't make ir big in America, she brings nothing new to the table, is not particularly good looking and has the charisma of a frozen cod, she will be forgotten about in a years time out there
November 12, 200717 yr I'm not fussed with Leona's music. I wouldn;t say I DID like her, I wouldn't say I DIDN'T. I can see she's talented, I just think she's completely overhyped by everyone and everyone at the moment. Especialy on here, you can't seem to go in any thread here without it being mentioned how amazing she is. I'm in the thread because it's in a CHART forum and for as long as I can remember I've taken an interest in the CHARTS. Is that OK? Oh, and I assume you didn't argue my point any further because you know I'm right? Totally agree with you there, it's annoying isn't it?, every bluddy thread it's how great she is. Arctic Monkeys are a pretty fine band, even though their live shows are a bit questionable for me. Edited November 12, 200717 yr by Marcus

I think its time a mod came in here and merged the Leona threads ... because I agree with you on that .... it seems one in two threads here is dedicated to her. It would be good to keep all the Leona fans in one place. Norma
November 12, 200717 yr After 1 day of sales in UK: #1: Leona (+-100.000 more than all the other albums in the top 10 ) #2: Spice Gilrs (+- 20.000) #3: Celine Dion #4: Led Zeppelin
November 12, 200717 yr I knew her album wud be cr*p but whats the point, every single person is buying it. I wish Spice girls go number one because at least they have classic songs in their Greatest Hits+ 2 new tracks and before you say everyone has them already or has heard them, I'm not telling you to buy it. I'm telling you to not buy Spirit cos you'll be wasting your money. Just go to hmv and have a listen cos you'll only like bleeding love.
November 13, 200717 yr Leona's album seems to be sold out everywhere I looked. I do think it will sell well this week, but people will wise up and not buy another if this one is not up to the mark, which reading comments from others sounds as if this is a bit of a duff album.
November 13, 200717 yr Look in the 2 long threads in the Leona Forum Ricky, i'm sure it's just a difference of opinion. For everyone in this thread that has said how bad it is I think there are 2 in her forum that are saying how perfect it is. Personally I am in the latter category, I adore the album and without a shadow of a doubt I am confident enough to say it's my favourite album this year. I will buy the Spice Girls to complete my collection but by no means is it the best possible purchase this week, 2 middle-of-the-road new tracks and tonnes of outdated hits (don't get me wrong I adore the Spice Girls but a lot of their tracks are VERY outdated now in my opinion). Celine Dion's new offering isn't bad either.
November 13, 200717 yr It was totally sold out in every shop I went into today, I guess the label underestimated it's sales. I'll go back later in the week :)

Yeah it's just an "okay" album, that's all, not one I'd have bought if my daughter hadn't. She's only 12 though.
November 13, 200717 yr Would just like to add that I don't think she'll be as huge in America as everyone seems to think. Edited November 13, 200717 yr by Crazy Chris
November 13, 200717 yr 13 November 2007 00:48:43 MSN News -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Leona album on course to break record pa.press.net Leona Lewis is outselling the Spice Girls by four to one on the first day of their album chart battle - and challenging for the fastest-selling UK debut of all time. Copies of Spirit are flying off the shelves across the UK. The X Factor winner is on course to sell around 100,000 copies by the end of today (Monday), according to industry estimates. The Spice Girls are managing just a quarter of that figure with their Greatest Hits. At HMV stores, Leona is outselling the rest of the top 10 combined. If sales continue at this rate, she's on target to shift around 350,000 copies by the end of the week. That will put her within touching distance of the record for a UK debut. Arctic Monkeys currently hold that record with Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, which sold 363,735 copies in its first week of release in January 2006. Leona, 22, winner of last year's X Factor, is already celebrating after her single, Bleeding Love, became the biggest selling song of the year yesterday (Sunday). It's sold 111,978 copies over the last seven days. HMV's Gennaro Castaldo said: "There has been a growing feeling over the past few weeks that this album would be huge, particularly following the success of Bleeding Love and the impact of Leona's appearance on X Factor. "But, if anything, Spirit may even go on to exceed these high expectations." According to first day sales figures, Leona is outselling the Spice Girls by a margin of more than four to one at HMV and around 3.5 to one at Woolworths.

I do think it will sell well this week, but people will wise up and not buy another if this one is not up to the mark, which reading comments from others sounds as if this is a bit of a duff album. I disagree with them, its a brilliant album with excellent tracks at the start and towards the end
November 13, 200717 yr Yawn! Yawn! Yawn! Was wondering when you were going to do that. Bringing Gary Barlow into it when you've got nothing more interesting to say. I for one am glad Gary Barlow wasn't the next George (up his own jacksie) Michael. He may not be the better selling artist but he's a damned sight more interesting to listen to in an interview. At least he ain't self-pitying - and an artist 'suffering for his art' - but some people seem to like that kind of 'act'. Rant over! Back to the topic! Norma Oi Norma, You are completely out of order. My point is incredibly relevant. Gary Barlow's debut album was recorded almost exclusively in America and was 8 months in the making, with a host of America's top songwriters & producers lending a helping hand. It was eagerly awaited after being hyped by his record label BMG & it's head of A&R Simon Cowell and sold a very impressive (for the month of June) 173,000 copies in its debut week. Yet in it's second week its sales collapsed by over threefold & in the end it struggled to sell much over 600,000 in the UK in total. It was also poorly received by music critics as it was felt that by working with these top US producers/songwriters, it had diluted the obvious songwriting talent of Gary (tellingly the two stand out tracks by far were both sole penned by Gary alone Forever Love & Open Road). As you well know Gary relased a second album that did not do well, before being dropped by Cowell & BMG. As for the comparison, I am only doing the same thing that The Word magazine has done. Especially pointing out the irony that it was Gary Barlow on last year's X-Factor final who made the valid plea to look after Leona as her voice is special. So it is such a pity that BMG have made the same mistake (IMHO) with Leona's album as with Gary a decade ago. As for your clear dig. Ask any Robbie Williams member and they well know that I think Robbie is an insecure c**k. As far as personalities go I've always been in the "Team Barlow" camp. So I've been delighted with the Take That revival & reappreciation of Gary's songwriting talents. It is just that Robbie is a brilliant charismatic (live) performer who has made many brilliant records. I just hope Leona gains the strength to tell Simon Cowell to bog off (like Will Young did) and make a much better second album did (like Will Young managed). For an example her Radio 1 live in session version of Snow Patrol's Run was just stunning, so she clearly possesses the talent. Which adding to the fact her debut album is so polished and so technically excellent, it therefore lacks a heart, a soul, or a personality in stark contrast to her Radio 1 Live Lounge performance.
November 13, 200717 yr I hope that, here in Italy, Leona's hit will be played on radio soon. Her voice (and the production too) is one of the most promising at this time. I'm sad the Whitney loses her way an Mariah loses her brilliance . Leona's music style is not a miracle but just a god quality effort in this times music bad taste. A n. 1 in uk charts is a good springboard for the Italy ( and the whole Europe) radio and music market.
November 13, 200717 yr I've been reading this thread with interest. I'm honestly astounded that the public are still this interested in Leona, although I suspect around 80% of those sales have been picked up at the checkout of Asda, Tesco et al. Had her album been released ten years ago I think it would have taken MUCH longer to sell as a large section of the target market are those who don't habitually visit record shops (but do visit the supermarket weekly). For me, even if Leona does outsell the Arctic's debut album, the Arctics will still have the edge as, despite the hype, it was still something fans had to visit a specific shop for and wasn't perched at the tills waving enticingly as shoppers pay for their groceries. I also predict that approx 100,000 more of the people who bought WPSIATWIN will still own their copies a couple of years from now, with a huge number of Leona albums littering the shelves of charity shops.
November 13, 200717 yr MONDAY SALES Leona first day sales 77,000 Spice Girls 29,000 Well, if this turns out to be true, Leona is only beating them by a bit more than 2-1... lol at that 6-1 story....
November 13, 200717 yr Well, if this turns out to be true, Leona is only beating them by a bit more than 2-1... lol at that 6-1 story.... Exactly...that was based on pre-sales. It means there's going to be stacks and stacks of Leona albums in the bargain bin after Christmas.
