Thank the Lord they've opted to ditch the glam nonsense that ruined Supernature and gone back to what they do best - atmospheric, moody, gorgeous chilled stuff.

I wasn't aware this had leaked aleady, though

Can anyone PM me a link please?

I read that this album is a big departure from what fans expect. I wasn't too keen on all the glam stuff from Supernature, although Number 1 is one of their best songs ever. However, I don't think anything will ever beat Felt Mountain.

apparently...the whole of the album leaked last night - 4 months ahead of release....
Yeah. Christ knows how it's going to do now! I suspect they'll change the tracklisting or something. Anyway, I'm quite a big fan of Supernature so I'll give my thoughts in a bit when the download's done. :D
'Felt Mountain' is a very difficult album. I love their other 2 albums though.
Well the first half of the album seems really bland on first listen; only Happiness is okay. Things start to look up with Road To Somewhere. Some People is quite nice, and A&E is absolutely stunning - risky choice for the lead single, but amazing nonetheless. Caravan Girl is my other favourite, very upbeat and lovely.

I, too, have heard the album today.... and, whilst it's certainly not immediate.... I think it's absolutely gorgeous.

A&E and Happiness stand out.... but the whole album is great..... it needs about 3 plays, though - but don't the best things always take a while?

I'll buy the album, too, because Goldfrapp's artwork is always worthy of an actual purchase....

As Jark says, though..... it's distinctly uncommercial - but it's great to see a band willing to stick their neck out and try fixing a formula that isn't broke.

I feel the opposite.... I like Black Cherry in parts, I hated Siupernature apart from Ride a White Horse..... but Felt Mountain is their opus IMO.... Lovely Head (rudest song ever?), Utopia, Deer Stop (my fave) and Human are all..... incredible.

Why is this in Specialist music and not Dance?

There's nothing "dancey" about their new album. Its chillout/pop/alt really now..

Why is this in Specialist music and not Dance?

because the 'Dance' area on this site is an embarrassment.... it's sunk to new low levels of being nothing more than an area where pop fans can discuss the merits of the new Cascada single or the depth and breadth of the latest Bootyluv release..... quality music like Goldfrapp would be lost in such a pile of sludge.

Plus, The Seventh Tree is about as far removed from dance as you can possibly get - there's hardly an upbeat track on it.

I was referring to the main Dance area really  Well, if that's the case then I think the mods ought to remove Goldfrapp from the Dance forum description then...

I'll definitely be buying the album, I have all 3 of their albums so far and liked them all.

My favourite is Black Cherry, I doubt that will ever be beaten for me. Supernature was good, but it was basically a more commercialised Black Cherry and the sexy electronica of Black Cherry was lost. :( Felt Mountain is nice, but I only really listen to it when I'm in the bath or for just chilling out in general.

this gets better...and better... with every listen.

One of the top 3 greatest albums of the year. Every track on the album is literally perfection.

And this song is gorgeous: would fit in perfectly on Felt Mountain & Alison's vocals are just divine on this!

yeah its art vs commerce thing

well Cascada/aatw is just pop innit, i guess that most people are just obsessing about the radio edits in there anyway or the vershs they play on the hits  rather than to do with actual dj culture and superstar djs, more shadowy producers with random voclaists doing cheesy stuff.

and if anyone brings in Kylie and uses the "but it sounds like goldfrapp" argument get todays the times knowledge. the writer victoria segal sums it up like so perfectly when she says that kylie 'is snipping off bits from the hipper fringes of electronic music - the musical equivalent of the couture item filtering down and becoming a high-street knick off" that is spot on, that opinion.

and just think on commerce you've got kylie and mika, but on the art side, goldfrapp and sparks.

but when that 'snipping' becomes unadulterated, unashamed butchery of somebody else's art - as Kylie has so horribly done with '2 Hearts' - then you cannot not mention that Kylie isn't just being influenced by Goldfrapp, and taking bits of their stuff to enhance hers - but blatantly ripping them off.... from the vocal nuances to the artwork to the video... Christ, even down to the hair... it's Goldfrapp. And that's not casually nicking a bit of a 'cool reference' point - that's nothing short of plagiarism.

(by the way - have a listen to the Kish Mauve original of this new 'Kylie' single.... you'll be surprised

) :o ;)
