I love this, is such an easy song to listen to and it's very relaxing.

I'm not a huge fan of Goldfrapp, and I find some of their tracks very off-putting and I can't listen to them - whereas other tracks are brilliant. Strange indeed.

A&E is commercial as they (Goldfrapp) come, it's got 20+ weeks on the UK singles chart,

Goldfrapp 20 weeks on the single chart? Not in my lifetime - not ever. I wish...

If you think it is brave to dig out your record collection of U2, Coldplay, Snow Patrol, Keane, Jeff Buckley & A-Ha albums then you have a different definition of brave then I have.

I think we differ greatly in our reference points. I very much doubt either Alison or Will has even HEARD a song by Keane nevermind own one..... FAR too common for them. I won't even mention Snow Patrol or U2 - too ridiculous. The influences I see on A&E and the rest of this magnificent album are clear - Cocteau Twins, Nick Drake, Kate Bush, Diamanda Galas, Lennon, Eno, Sylvian.....

And whilst I'd love to see it top 5 - I don't think it's immediate or throwaway enough to do big stuff, unfortunately. I don't have enough faith in the UK record buying public to make this the massive hit it deserves. Plus, there are stronger, more immediate tracks on the album... 'Happiness' for one, which does sound like a big hit single.

'Sometime You Can't Make It On Your Own'? Crazy..... to even imagine Goldfrapp would be influenced by a band as flaccid, stale and creatively dull as U2 is ridiculous.

This song is brilliant - but the idea of this being commercial is laughable. It's clearly a hint towards their early work and a step in the right direction, instead of continuing a sound that was successful for them - and a sound that Kylie Minogue has loved to butcher.

I don't see this doing well, It should go top ten but I don't see this selling the album at all.

Happiness commercial? I think it's far too floaty and dreamy to do anything at radio. The only really commercial song is Caravan Girl, which is less whispy and more of an immediate kick.

Happiness needs butching and building up, for sure - but it's got a killer singalong kind of chorus which I could see being a big hit in the summer festivals and the like - of which Goldfrapp will feature heavily this year, I imagine.

For anyone who hasn't already - if Goldfrapp come anywhere near where you live - go see them - they're probably the finest live act I've ever seen. Goldfrapp's voice is phenomenal - even better than on record.

Yeah, I managed to catch them live a couple of years ago at Creamfields and they blew me away.

Wonderful!

Very "Felt Mountain"-style

Looking forward for the album...

the tracklistings for the single is out too... no b-side :(

at least not on either cd, the tracklisting for the 7" hasn't been confirmed yet.

I think their new single "A&E" will not be a commercial success even it's by far one of the best songs I heard for a while...

Anyway Alison & Will know very well how to make an amazing album ^_^

but when that 'snipping' becomes unadulterated, unashamed butchery of somebody else's art - as Kylie has so horribly done with '2 Hearts' - then you cannot not mention that Kylie isn't just being influenced by Goldfrapp, and taking bits of their stuff to enhance hers - but blatantly ripping them off.... from the vocal nuances to the artwork to the video... Christ, even down to the hair... it's Goldfrapp. And that's not casually nicking a bit of a 'cool reference' point - that's nothing short of plagiarism.

Indeed Kylie ripped off Goldfrapp - Strict Machine

I wondered why 2 Hearts sounds quite familiar to me even it's a new song

PS Alison also featured on the following songs:

Orbital - Are We Here?

Orbital - Nothing Left (1)

Orbital - Nothing Left (2)

Tricky - Pumpkin

worth a listen!

Video is amazing. So lovely and natural. Hope this is MASSIVE.

actually was listening to Orbital last night - started off with Human League's Circus of Death and wanted something as menicing - so nearest thing to the mojo ok-computer album on my pile was was the altogether and the best of and played those and doctor? who theme as well.

For me Goldfrapp are absolutely superb!

I love them alot. But with each album release i felt the quality was shifting downwards. I've only listened to the new album once so far, but its deffo a return to form for them imo.

It will take a lot to beat "Felt Moutain" for me though. I will give "Seventh Tree" a couple more listens hopefully it grows on me.

I'm quite liking 'A&E' atm, but 'Clowns' is my fave from the new album. Nice album, can't see it doing that well commercially though tbh.

This will obviously be huge for them and the album will debut at #01. Commercial success? Most defiantly! It's written all over the press/video/image for this era. It's very now and very in.

Oh and who ever decided to merge the two threads I am more than capable of making my own moderating decisions and closed it for a reason. Please butt out in future or indeed say you've merged the two. Thanks yeah.

Am I the only one here that thinks "A & E" is a potential number one? Combining the fact they have a massive fan base and a track such as this is a nod to their first album, but also has enough appeal to people who like Snore Patrol. I think it's an amazing track, with a great vid, and so what if it has more commercial appeal - a good track is a good track and I don't think there is any intention to make music to sell records. If they did that, it would be so bloody obvious.

I completely agree with you. This has so much potential. It's the kind of song Radio 1 will eat for breakfast, and the video will be a big hit too.

If the single doesn't go to #1 then it'll go Top3 with ease and the album will fly in at #1.

try FSOL - Dead Cities

:P

The album is brilliant (sublime sometimes).

It took me just 4 listens to be hooked. "Seventh Tree" is very folky and subtle but there are some radio-friendly songs like "Little Bird", "Happiness", "Caravan Girl", "Cologne Cerrone Houdini" or "A&E" of course. Some may say it lacks the beats from Supernature/Black Cherry but Goldfrapp warned us: it is different.

Any fan of Felt Mountain will appreciate this album the rest will/could be slightly disappointed.

Conclusion: definitelly one of the best of 2008!

^_^

PS the producer of Seventh Tree is Flood

Oh my god please do not ever mention U2 again! I hate their music and that stupid c*nt of a frontman!
