Posted November 25, 200717 yr THAT popular saying: “Be careful what you wish for,” could have been written with Gordon Brown in mind. For years he dreamed of the top job, brooding, plotting, waiting. And then he got it. At first, beset by plague, fire and deluge (foot-and-mouth, terrorist attack and the floods) he gave the illusion of a man in charge of events. Now, though, his credibility has collapsed, he is a dead duck of a PM and he has shown that he is just not up to the job. He promised that he would be a Prime Minister with a vision, a grand plan. But as George Osborne reminded us this week, Mr Brown is not even competent let alone a visionary. He flunked it when it came to calling an election and since then he has been beset by one disaster after another – Northern Rock and the child benefit data fiasco are the big ones, while his authority has been even further undermined this week by Labour’s foolish sell-off of the QinetiQ laboratories and the passionate and personal attack on him in the Lords by former defence chiefs. The PM is not cool under fire. He is somewhat ridiculous. He does not inspire confidence and the Tories are profiting from this in the polls. Furthermore the electorate is jumpy about the economy. For years, by sleight of hand, Mr Brown managed to give the impression that his stewardship of the Treasury was masterful. Yet now it has become plain that while he inherited a healthy economy from the previous administration, he then set about squandering that legacy. He destroyed a pension system that was the envy of the world and taxed and spent like there was no tomorrow. And, if he carries on like this, Labour will find there is indeed no tomorrow. November 25, 200717 yr Lol how was the pension system the envy of the world under the Tories <_< I seem to remember pensioner's freezing to death in their bed's in the 1990's under John Major <_< No surprise the article is from the Sunday Express  Nasty paper that spread's hate and lies. <_<
November 25, 200717 yr Firstly, the Express is without doubt the nastiest paper in the UK. Any paper that worships at the foot of "Saint" (Princess) Diana, then piles on bile & hatred to anyone who disagrees with their & Al Fayed's side of what happened that night is truly disturbing when an avalanche of facts suggests that the truth is already out there, because it was an accident, albeit caused by a chauffeur driving too fast, having had too much alcohol, driving a strange car, on an accident black spot, whilst Diana would have been alive today if she'd warn a seatbelt as the law in France was at the time ........ Having said that Gordon Brown is proving very much to be Steve McLaren in comparison to Tony Blair's Sven Goran Eriksson.
November 25, 200717 yr yeh i'm not a fan of Gordon either  He's doing a good job though, for the Tories
November 26, 200717 yr Author Lol how was the pension system the envy of the world under the Tories <_< I seem to remember pensioner's freezing to death in their bed's in the 1990's under John Major <_< No surprise the article is from the Sunday Express  Nasty paper that spread's hate and lies. <_< I think they are referring to the private pensions whereby Brown removed the tax incentive and taxed all the pension Companies £5billion per annum, and therefore wiping out the future values of everyones pension pot at a stroke. This has killed off final salary schemes, that used to be the norm. Now only civil servants seem to have that, no surprise there.Thats why the rest of us will have to work until we are dead before we have a half decent pension. I dont think they are talking about the state retirement scheme, which has always been appalling
November 26, 200717 yr Having said that Gordon Brown is proving very much to be Steve McLaren in comparison to Tony Blair's Sven Goran Eriksson. have to agree there.... so far browns been only half the bloke blair was... i was expecting exactly the opposite.
November 26, 200717 yr I absolutely detested B-Liar, but at least he had a certain persuasive charm (smarm...? ) - not that he ever really persuaded me, but at least he had something, Brown is just a big, blustering bag of bugger all... The whole "election" fiasco pretty much sums him up really.... And yeah, I'm with Brian, I think the pension system the Express is referring to IS the private and company schemes, although they could certainly have made this a lot clearer... Sloppy journalism......
November 27, 200717 yr It's tricky at the moment for Gordon but I can't help thinking all the current headlines will have been forgot about in 6 plus months from now. In the mean while he has the opportunity to establish credibility, honesty, integrity and good judgment. Does he have them? I'm not sure, but the possibility exists.

November 27, 200717 yr I seriously can't stand Gordon Brown. I'd rather have Blair and that's saying something.... <_<

November 27, 200717 yr He is just keeping the seat warm for Cameron, Labour have lost the next election and they know it so Brown is just a shelf filler plodding along till the inevitable rout in the polls at the next election
December 2, 200717 yr He is just keeping the seat warm for Cameron, Labour have lost the next election and they know it so Brown is just a shelf filler plodding along till the inevitable rout in the polls at the next election As much as I hate Cameron and the Tories, I have to be honest here and say you may have a point... "Labour" have royally fukked everything up over the past five years, the rampant authoritarianism and the sheer sleaze of how they conduct their affairs is something I find utterly objectionable.. I'd like to think that people would give the Lib Dems a go, but they've kinda got the wrong leader at the helm too, surely Simon Hughes would've been a far better leader, or better yet, how about they hadn't stabbed Charles Kennedy in the back..... <_<

December 4, 200717 yr Hash Brown has turned out to be an absolute disaster, I had quite high hopes for him but the lost cd's the dithering over the election, the Northern Rock fiasco, the donations scandal and so on have shown him up to be utterly useless what?... the ONLY thing brown is directly responsible for there was dithering over the election. utterly useless?... maybe as a pm, but not as a chancellor who brought mortgage rates down to the lowest since the early 60's, stabalised the economy so growth could be sustained, kept inflation down... all of these thatchers chancellors FAILED spectacualy to do... but it wasnt their fault was it <_<
December 4, 200717 yr He is just keeping the seat warm for Cameron, Labour have lost the next election and they know it so Brown is just a shelf filler plodding along till the inevitable rout in the polls at the next election oh...just what the country needs...another public school posh-boy totally, utterly out of touch with modern Britain and its people. And, let's be honest, a bit of a standing joke, really (those hilarious YouTube videos - oh please). Floppy hair, foppish charm.... but about as capable of running the country as John Major was.
December 4, 200717 yr Personally I can't wait till Cameron gets in. But for totally different reasons to Craig.
December 4, 200717 yr Personally I can't wait till Cameron gets in. But for totally different reasons to Craig. A scottish Tory :o about as rare as snow flakes in July these days  Still think the tories are a south of england party, most people north of the watford gap hate Cameron, its only the southern media that like him tbh. Still think he might win tho, if he gets most of the southern vote's, i reckon the SNP will take alot of seats off Labour in Scotland and the Lib Dems will take some seats off Labour in the north meaning Cameron will sneak it ;) Edited December 4, 200717 yr by Joey Deacon
December 4, 200717 yr The good thing is this... IF the Tories get in next time - the case for splitting Britain up totally will strengthen - there's no way Wales, for one, will accept another government from England that we simply didn't vote in like we did during those awful years of Thatcher and the predecessor...... and I can't see Scotland accepting it either. So you go, England - you vote 'em in - you have 'em, you're welcome to them. Edited December 4, 200717 yr by russt68
December 5, 200717 yr Scottish Tory? Moi? You're havin' a laugh    No. I'm SNP through and through. And I just can't wait for an SNP Holyrood v. a Tory Westminster. Bring it on!
