03. Hope - 2 Become 1

I ashamedly really enjoyed 2 Become 1 though it did seem very high!

2 Become 1 was possibly the most excruciating piece if 'live' TV I've ever seen - they really were hopelessly out of tune. It was one of my favourite performances on XFactor, ever, too - but for all the wrong reasons.

And whilst I think Rhydian sings with all the passion of a week-old wet kipper, he is, unfortunately, relevant to Cowell's crazy, mixed-up, sad impression of what music is today.

Of course he'll win the show.... then, within weeks, he'll release an album full of tacky, nasty, gut-churning quasi-opera nonsense a la Il Divo, G4, Paul Potts, Kathryn Jenkins.... watered-down opera-lite for the masses who wouldn't know a decent opera singer if he or she bellowed Wagner in their ears non-stop for six weeks. It's 'opera' for middle-aged housewives who buy their CDs in Asdas and think Nessun Dorma is opera's finest moment. And he'll sell by the bucketload.

Do you not feel fulfilled if there's nothing to criticise?
Open your ears mate, I dont think you become as big a star as Kylie if you can't sing. And Dannii, she's underated after living in her sisters shadow all her life. They both have awesome live voices too.

I've seen Kylie 'live' numerous times (including her ear-splitting rendition of Somewhere Over The Rainbow at Earls Court where my teeth were ground down due me grinding them listening to this abortion of a cover version).... I know 2 sound engineers who've worked with her, too, one in the 90s, one on the Showgirl tour. Autotune Autotune Autotune - all the way. Every time, too.

And I've seen Dannii live, too, several times, including 2 club performances, one in the 90s where she 'sang' over a backing track..... incredibly badly, I might add, where the crowd could hear her warbling over the pre-recorded voice - and it sounded like an XFactor audition they'd show again and again and again. Excruciating stuff. I saw her in Ibiza a few years ago, too (the most humiliating live performance I've ever witnessed by anybody, by the way, and I've seen some howlers in my time) - where she got booed off the stage and left it in floods of tears because, literally, the whole of Pacha was laughing at how dreadful she is - dancing like she has a club foot, and singing like she had a club foot in her throat.

As for Kylie not being as big a star if she can't sing - balderdash - the charts are littered with 'singers' who simply cannot sing......including some who've had long careers, too.

I know you don't feel fulfilled without a daily dose of me, Jark, so I try to please.

And Hope were an awful mess.

You've quite evidently got a total prejudice against these girls, because that's the most unfair, biased and pretty much untrue thing I've read in a fair while. I saw Kylie live at Showgirl Homecoming in January and she sang entirely live and was pretty perfect all the way through. Dannii came on stage for Kids and quite considerably outshone Kylie, IMO, with her performance which was earth-shatteringly good. And if Ibiza hates Dannii so, why does she perform there every year? If this humiliation is as you claim, I highly doubt she would have returned even once, never mind anually. I've seen her set there too - not in person, yet, sadly - and I was pretty impressed.

Are you Louis?

Shame Hope left :(

I hope they get to release a single and if it sells well then get a record deal!

Louis came on stage at G-A-Y last night and got booed!!! lol

Probably cos everyone knows what a C**T he is!

Awww poor Hope.

That's one less plastic bunch of whores on the music scene anyway, though I bet they get a recording contract.

I am really astonished at SD's success though after watching the repeat of last night's show I can see why - they do have the whole package despite what Louis f***head Walsh sayd - they put in an entertaining performance and just have this whole fun factor about them. Its different and it's quirky though they loook sooo damn squeaky clean. :(

Leon has improved. I think he has a very good voice but I can see the direction he would go if he won so I wouldn't really be interested in hus music.

Nikki I can imagine will be interesting to see what she produces if she wins though I seriously would love to see her do something more than just ballads all the time.

As for Rhydian - I can't knock him - its obvious he will become a massive star whethr he wins this or not but alas opera isn't really my cup of tea so I won't be buying anything he releases.

Jark, I think both have released some of the best pop music of the past 10 years (didn't like either of them before that). Especially Dannii (although I think her new single is well dodgy). 'Confide In Me', especially, has to be one of the best pop songs ever recorded.... and Dannii's late 90s output was pretty awesome - proof she doesn't need to do this tired old karaoke routine to established underground dance anthems, or use cliched samples to bolster her chances of a hit single. Those Trouser Enthusiasts remixes (I think it was them?) of the 90s singles - wow.

But as accomplished vocalists, both of them, and especially Kylie, are pretty poor. Maybe Kylie's last London concert I saw was damaged by her being diagnosed with breast cancer the week after, but Rainbow was really, really painful... and on some of the tracks on X, she sounds weaker than ever - reed-thin in places.

The recorded stuff by both, though, is usually great, top-notch, classic pop - but in a live setting, neither of them can cut it from what I've seen, especially, as I said, Kylie, who, despite all the fancy routines, dazzling costumes and amazing pops and stage sets, simply can't sing very well without technical assistance. Her shows are spectacular, though, so I'd go and see her again tomorrow, regardless.

That's why, every time Dannii criticises an XFactor act for being out of tune... I can't help but grimace, because if she, a seasoned performer, were to stand on that stage and attempt what these contestants are doing, she'd fall flat on her face every week. For once, that disgusting little weasel Louis Walsh actually spoke some sense last night, albeit rudely and with his usual disdain for the opposite gender.

The right decision was made last night. Hope should have left before Beverley really.

2 Become 1 was awful, and We Will Rock You bored me. Quite why the judges raved about it I don't know. It wasn't their worst performance, but Sharon was spot on when she said it lacked something. The track really needs power to work, and the girls just don't have it.

Leon's performance of The Long And Winding Road was DIRE. Maybe it was just me, but he was flat in places, and he seemed to be really straining his voice with the song. He's much better at the upbeat tracks, where his enthusiasm and likeability can overshadow his average singing voice. Really he should be the next one to go, but I've a feeling he'll be in the final 2 for this.

Niki was the stand-out last night I feel. The judges didn't seem that wowed by Fields Of Gold, but I thought it was excellent, her voice was pretty flawless all throughout. Rhydian too had a good night; I Vow To Thee My Country was an excellent choice for him, really plays to his strength; his rousing powerful vocals.

Same Difference were entertaining as ever, they may rely on gimmicks, but they are the most entertaining to watch, and they're the only ones who have ALWAYS seemed comfortable on the stage. The only problem is people don't seem to actually notice their vocal abilities; they don't have the power of Niki or Rhydian, but they always manage to stay in tune which is more than can be said for the majority of the other contestants. Louis seems to think that gimmicks automatically equals no talent, but he's talking out of his bitter old arse as ever. He's becoming increasingly irritating; he behaves like a 5 year old kid having a tantrum, and he's yet to realise that it makes him look like an utter arse when he keeps on shouting over Simon.

Last night for me;

1. Niki - Total Eclipse Of The Heart (7/10), Fields Of Gold (10/10)

2. Rhydian - Somebody To Love (7/10), I Vow To Thee My Country (9/10)

3. Same Difference - Any Dream Will Do (7/10), Wake Me Up Before You Go (8/10)

4. Leon - Crazy Little Thing Called Love (8/10), The Long And Winding Road (2/10)

5. Hope - 2 Become 1 (4/10), We Will Rock You (5/10)

I Vow To Thee My Country was an excellent choice for him, really plays to his strength; his rousing powerful vocals.

I think this is my problem with him, to me his 'rousing, powerful vocals' aren't his strength, it's merely 'what he does', I'd love to hear him attempt something meek and timid sounding, instead of everything having to be boomed out, maybe it's just me but it's making all of his performances sound the same to me.

As for 2 Become 1 Russ, I know I'm in the minority but I watched it again and still thought it was great  Nevermind :P

everyones saying Leon could win now - I really hope so - really dont want Rydian to win - and he certainly cant sing the winners song it wont suit that voice - which I hate

I think Leon could be in the final 3, But I doubt he will win it.

He's Ray Quinn Strike II.

It will between Niki and Rhydian me finks- Even though Same Difference should be there, I can see them going this week :(

But alas, I'll be seeing them in March when I go to the X-Factor concert, so not everything is bad!.

Try watching the video I just posted. Both Minogues are actually widely thought of as having decent live voices, with Kylie's a little more nazal than Dannii's, and Dannii's a little deeper than Kylie's.

Yes, but neither are as good as Nikki - thats the point people are trying to make here!

But you dont see what goes on behind the scenes. Kylie only wants you to see what she wants you to see, i can imagine the technical assistance and backing singers she have make a big impact on her voice.

NO-ONE is saying Kylie and Danni havent produced some amazing pop tunes in their time, but to say their outstanding singers and compare them to Nikki is totally pathetic.
