Shoot her. :o What the f*** is wrong with these people. They're sad, mad and pathetic. I can only imagine what is going to happen now.

These people really are insane to the highest degree if they're taking the name of a teddy bear so seriously that they believe someone's life ought to be taken for it...especially when she didn't name the bear, the children did by a vote  I only suppose the fact she did so democratically only makes the situation worse

Withdraw all support from the medieval nutters or just support the rebels in Darfur. Why should we have anything to do with idiots like these? <_<

What, even the ones fleeing Govt persecution???? You really thought that one out didn't you mate....?

If you read my post again I deliberately put 'what we could do', not what we 'should do'.

If you are asking for own choice it would be to start arming the rebels to the hilt. Withdrawing aid is also a possibility but only UK government aid paid direct to the Sudanese Govt (as I'm quite sure that money never reaches anyone in need in any case. It probably funds a fleet of Mercedes cars for the ruling elite).

Calling Muslims "sadistics" is an incredibly linear and probably racist view to take.

Muslims have different laws, culture and beliefs to us. Ok it may seem pathetic for us that she insulted their religion but, if thats the law in Sudan, its the law unfortunatly.

Some people in Pakistan would be absolutely rolling on the floor laughing at us as in this country it being basicially illegal to show any national pride (e.g. having a British flag= You're a BNP member).

I think its in Indonesia where it is illegal to masturbate... ok that may seem stupid to us but in Indonesia (or whereever) it is perfectly acceptable and they'd give us funny looks when they found out that over here it was OK.

Although how stupid it actually is, she broke the law, and imo it would have insulted some people (if they did not know the context) and taking a literal approach to the Sudanese law, she would have been found guilty. She has got off lightly.

Breaking news on Sky. She has been moved to a secret location for her own safety. -_-
f*** me. Just saw on the news, there are crowds of hundreds/thousands chanting, "Shoot Her, Shoot Her". Havn't they got more IMPORTANT things to worry about, like errrr... MOVING their country forwards?

In them kind of countries Religion comes first. In front of Family, Friends, and more importantly, Common Sence. People in them countries have Religion as their main priority, and often their only priority. So no. They don't care about moving their country forward, having a good quality of life or anything like that. They care about Religion.

good...and true... point.

The fact she is British is the reason for all this, if she was South African or Brazillian or whatever this would not have happened, she is being used as a tool for the battle of Islam v the west, the reason why Islam is so hostile to the west and incidents like this occur is because of stuff like Iraq where we without any mandate slaughtered 20,000 muslims in cold blood in Shock and Awe, occupied a sovereign muslim nation and stole its oil, our unswerving support of Israeli genocide against palestinians and so on, before we start slagging off muslims and calling them names we gotta look in the fukkin mirror as to why muslims all over the world hate us, this woman is effectively a hostage, a propaganda tool against the west.

Instead of slagging off muslims we should be slagging off the likes of Bush and Blair for fuelling the hatred islam has of us

...and thanking Margaret Thatcher for arming both Iraq and Iran?

And before you start getting on your right wing high horse again.... remember that according to Amnesty International (who are hardly the biggest fans of the Bush & Blair administration) the number of people who are killed in Iraq on a daily basis has fallen SINCE Saddam Hussein was toppled, as he and his ruling Sunni party were responsible for the deaths of an estimated 1.73 million of his own citizens largely due to his persecution of Shi'ites in the South of Iraq & Kurds in the North of Iraq.

According to official figures you are more likely to be shot, maimed, kidnapped or killed in South Africa (where the next Football World Cup is held!) than in Iraq today.

To be fair, our country and america, in some strange way, are trying to help countries in the east.
At the risk of starting a riot of my own ......

This teacher went to teach in this country, surely she did some research into the laws and religion.

Whether we agree with them or not is irrelevent.

I have a relatively limited knowledge of Islam but I know that drawing or depicting Allah is forbidden, as is using inanimate objects to represent Allah or the prophets

In our opinions the punishment may be extreme, and whilst I am sure she didn't expect such extreme reactions, she must have known naming an inanimate object thus would cause offence.

If she'd gone on some major anti-Islam rant in class, then yes, I think we'd have to accept she'd be punished... even if we didn't agree, we'd have to accept that it is just their law to respect the religion.

But, considering this was a completely innocent mistake, there's no excuse for this punishment. As there are many people in Sudan called Muhammad (including some kids in her class), she shouldn't have been expected to know that calling a teddy bear it was unacceptable. Besides, considering the kids actually suggested the name, that shows that the ban on calling teddy bears Muhammad isn't even that widely known amongst the Sudanese natives.

As for the people protesting for her execution... firstly, she's clearly not going to get executed so there's no need for overreactions in regards to that. Secondly, don't forget it's a minority of people protesting, don't lump all Sudanese people under one bracket. And thirdly, we don't know what bull$h!t the state media are forcefeeding over there...

I don't doubt for a minute teacher lady is receiving 'special' treatment because a) she's a woman B) she's a western woman c) she's a British western woman. At the level of the Sudanese Govt she is probably a political pawn. Tinpot countries love to 'throw their weight around'. Even when we give them a fortune in aid. And remember that Bin Laden spent a time in Sudan after being invited to live there by the Sudanese (way before 9/11).

The Sudanese have never had close relations with the British. We went to war with them in the 19th century (General Gordon of Khartoum v the Mahdi Army). Doubt there's ever been much love lost. Maybe we should send Corporal Jones from Dad's Army to sort them out. He was always reminiscing about fighting the Fuzzy Wuzzys in Sudan. 'They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwairing'.... :P

The next book I'm going to get will be something on the rise of Islamic fundamentalism. I find it all quite fascinating (and very disturbing). I'm old enough to remember the assassination of Anwar Sadat by Islamists and also the overthrow of the Shah of Iran. I remember at the time an expert being interviewed on the telly saying way back then that Islamic fundamentalism was the biggest danger facing civilization and it had to be stopped. When was that? 1979-1980? Around then? I don't think anyone then realised how portentious his words would prove to be.

Islamic fundamentalism is not new. But it is on the rise. And I don't know how we (or most importantly moderate Muslims) stop it. I really wish I could believe that the US/UK pulling out of Iraq/Afghanistan would solve things. But I don't believe that for a minute. The preachers of hate are not seeking a Muslim World left to its own devices and a 'Western' World left to its own devizes. Their avowed aim is to convert the world to Islam. Maybe they attract disaffected youth with no jobs and no prospects. I don't know. But then again, most of the 9/11 hijackers were from rich families, as indeed was Bin Laden.

It seems to me that in countries such as Sudan a large number of the populace is being brainwashed from such an early age. The ones on the telly tonight seem to have lost all sense of reason. There were people standing there with sticks and machetes waxing lyrical about how Islam is a peaceful religion. It beggers belief. There is no way to connect with such individuals on any level.

But then I'm (at best) an agnostic. I live by logic and reason and I find religious fundamentalism (of any creed) very difficult to accept. I just look at them and think 'nutters'.

And I worry for the future of this world. :(

This is all just too complicated to get involved with. She really (as a 54 year old teacher) should have known better as to how seriously Muslims take their religion, especially on their own ground. I agree we see the people baying for her death as extremists ... but they are just taking their religion seriously. Maybe we, in this country, should start taking our own faith more seriously and stand up for it a bit more - then we'd have something to argue with. Instead, the West in general treats 'celebrity' and 'celebrities' as our religion. Please don't get me wrong ... I am not a regular churchgoer - I only go on special days, weddings and funerals, and to increase my child's chances of getting into a decent school!

i dont think the war in iraq had much to do with it tbh craig, they hated the west ever since general gordons days..... and lets not forget kitcheners battles out there. wether or not we 'should' have been there, they hated non muslims...period.

Spot on Craig.. The facts of the matter are, there were NO suicide bombers in the UK before Afghanistan or Iraq happened, France stood up to the US, no banlouie suicide bombers blowing themselves up on the Champs d'Elysse or planes flying into the Eiffel Tower to my knowledge... this is just an uncomfortable fact that the Neo Cons on this forum are incapable of grasping... By being up Bush's arse, we made a rod for our own backs and our "wonderful", war criminal govt painted a huge target on every single man, woman and child in this country... Cheers Tony, or should I say "mini-me".... <_<

No, I actually think many in the region used to respect Britain, but now that respect has totally gone because we are now playing the gimp dwarf from "Man with The Golden Gun" to America's "Monsieur Scaramanger"...

The Palestinians respected our soldiers because they defended Palestinian villagers against Zionist aggression in the aftermath of WW2, British soldiers were killed defending Palestinians from zionist terrorists.... No, I do believe that the UK was at one point respected in the region, but the likes of B-Liar and Thatcher just completely squandered that good faith....

Bottom line, I reckon we should have supported Arab Nationalism and the PLO in the 60s and 70s, both of which were political forces, the likes of Arafat and Nasser were infinitely preferable and more agreeable to the religious psychos in the region now.... The reason why people in the region are falling in behind fanatical Islam is because is appears to be working where Arab Nationalism and the PLO appeared to fail....
