May 16, 200619 yr No way was he the best ever footballer! Maradonna, Pele, Zidane, Puskas, Henry, Ronaldinho etc...Are all better footballers. But he was a brilliant footballer. One of the best.
May 16, 200619 yr Very good player but to call him the best ever is insane 1) He retired aged about 27 2) He never played in a world cup against the best in the world 3) His comeback was embarrassing after retirement Top 20 player ever but you are having a laugh calling him best ever
May 16, 200619 yr Hard to tell really. He was massively ahead of his time but since his time there HAVE been better players. If he was adpted more to the modern day game and still playing now then it would be far easier to tell.
May 16, 200619 yr No way was he the best ever footballer! Maradonna, Pele, Zidane, Puskas, Henry, Ronaldinho etc...Are all better footballers. But he was a brilliant footballer. One of the best. Cruyff, Van Basten, Edwards on top of that
May 16, 200619 yr Author I don't think we have seen anyone on the ball like him. I can't think of anyone that seems to hug the ball between there legs.
May 16, 200619 yr Cruyff, Van Basten, Edwards on top of that I did actually LOL then because, for some ludicrous reason, I thought you was referring to Jordi Cruyff rather than Johan.
May 16, 200619 yr Cruyff, Van Basten, Edwards on top of that Edwards was only young. You can't put him into that catogery becuase he didn't have a long career.
May 16, 200619 yr I did actually LOL then because, for some ludicrous reason, I thought you was referring to Jordi Cruyff rather than Johan. LOL :P I am old enough to remember Johan playing :o B) As for greatest ever its Pele no contest 1284 goals in 1336 games Scored over 100 goals in a season 3 times in the Brazil league, we cream ourselves when a striker gets 20 these days
May 16, 200619 yr He was a very good footballer, but he's not the best, but is one of the best footballers and would probably be in the list of the 20 greatest footballers so far, maybe even in the top 10.
May 16, 200619 yr Not the best, Ronaldinho is the best ever. His reputation is an over-exagerration. Edited May 16, 200619 yr by Ronaldinho
May 16, 200619 yr Slightly biased as I'm a Man U fan but yes, I've never seen anyone who can do what he does. :D
May 17, 200619 yr Slightly biased as I'm a Man U fan but yes, I've never seen anyone who can do what he does. :D Then should the poll not be the most SKILLFUL ever ? There is a lot more to football than stepovers and nutmegging ;) The best ever player is impossible to define, Best may be up there in terms of skill but Beckenbauer, Moore, Lev Yashin, Maldini etc have a lot of claim too if you exclude sheer trickery
May 17, 200619 yr Well I've seen plenty of goals from him and imo the combination of skills and his goals are the best I've seen despite him not even being a striker. :cheer: But in my life time as much as it pains me to say it Thierry Henry is probably the best player I've seen.
May 17, 200619 yr Pelé, Maradona, di Stefano, Bobby Charlton, etc, all better. He was a legend but definately not the best.
May 17, 200619 yr He did have the potential to become on the list of Charlton, Pele, Maradonna, Moore, Maldini etc, but like Gazza their own fame ruined there potenial eletctrifying careers short.
