On tonight's Access Hollywood, Mariah Carey responds to accusations made by Christina Aguilera in the June issue of GQ magazine.

Aguilera was quoted in GQ saying, "She was never cool to me... to the point that one time, we were at a party and I think she got really drunk, and she had just really derogatory things to say to me... but it was at that time that she had that breakdown, so she might have been very medicated."

In response to Aguilera's quote, the multiple Grammy winner, Carey, told Access Hollywood, "I had hoped that Christina was in a better place now than the last time I saw her when she showed up uninvited at one of my parties and displayed questionable behavior. It is sad yet predictable that she would use my name at this time to reinvent past incidents for her promotional gain. It is in my heart to forgive and I will keep her in my prayers."

Aguilera added in a statement to Access Hollywood, "At this point in my life I do not want any bad energy with anyone. My intentions were not to upset Mariah with any statements that were published or taken out of context. I have all the respect in the world for her."

It's always the forums I moderate isn't it?

Yes dear, Mariah was on anti-depressants that made her rude and seem drunk.

It's a shame Christina did not pursue a career in medicine as she's obviously very well-informed.

Still psychiatry's loss is pop music's gain!

Good point Tim. :D

I have to be impartial here, so I am keeping schtum but I do want to comment, but I will refrain. :(

I like both artists so I'm relatively impartial. There's a chance Christina did not actually say what was printed - or just said it as a joke, not to be printed - which is fine.

I just get annoyed by stupidity (what medication makes people mean?). Mariah's said some daft or cruel things too over the years so I don't think she or her fans should get too self-righteous.

But considering all the bad press Christina's got, you'd think she'd realise that what the press were saying about Mariah during the 'Glitter' era may not be entirely true.

I like Mariah's retort. Very prim.

"It is in my heart to forgive and I will keep her in my prayers."

How cute, but sounds more like a fight back instead of true forgiveness.

I agree with Tim's point actually, it was very well worded and wasn't slagging her off, just stating her point, and she was nice about it. ^_^

Christina is another fave of mine, but I'm impressed with how Mariah retaliated. She never stoops to the bitchy level other singers do! :D

Christina's one of my favourites too, and I moderate both of their forums, hence why I am pretty much staying out of this one.

Well, Christina has one advantage on Mariah for me. While Mariah is my fave artist of all time, my fave album of all time is 'Stripped'

So it's 1-1 :o

I'm the same Mariah is my favourite artist of all time but my favourite album is The Best Of LeAnn Rimes. :o

Stripped is my second favourite album though.

At the time it was such a groundbreaking album, there was never an album that sounded even similar to Stripped, which shows her originality, I just hope Back To Basics lives up to the hype!

The first single sounds AMAZING.

The thing I loved about stripped was that there was really no hype around it. I was shocked it actually came out, but it grabbed me from the first listen and didn't come off my stereo for at least a year!

You're right there was no hype around Stripped, hence why it debuted on the UK chart at #19 and dropped like a brick for the next 6 weeks after that, falling 10 places each week for the first 3 weeks roughly, and then it started to rebound, which I love to see an album do, like when you think an album is finished and it turns it around I think it's great to see, like Simon Webbe's Sanctuary, entering the charts at #28 or something and I thought he was finished then and now look at him over 500k sold and a Top10 album under his belt! :D

Comparing Simon Webbe to Christina Aguilera? Surely there are laws against that! :P

 Good point, you know what I meant. :P

I just remembered. November 2003. I had just come back from staying the night in Manchester after Mariah's concert there - went to three shows in different places in five days! As soon as I got home, I had to go out again to see Christina at Wembley. I was so bloody exhausted!

So worth it though!

I have seen Christina before in concert, and Britney, and Kelly Clarkson, but never Mariah, I think if you're watching it on TV you seem to screutanise (sp?) every vocal down to a T, but when you're actually there it doesn't make a difference because the atmosphere and excitement kinda makes up for it.
Oh yeah, definitely. Classic example of that was party in the park a few years ago. Avril Lavigne sung 'I'm with you' and I was going on about how amazing it was. Then I got home and someone had made an mp3 of it. I cringed! :D

You just can't beat a good bit of live music! :D

I admit it was very unusual for a bubblegum act to release a 20-track album and have a good ol' curse but it's not particularly original. There are lot of standard ballads.

And some of the songs sound a bit too like others....

Impossible - 'Love Is On The Way' by Celine Dion and others

Make Over - 'Overload' by Sugababes (the verses have the exact same tune. The chorus is different)

Dirrty - 'Let's Get Dirty' by Redman (though at least she acknowledged this one)

She more than acknowledged the fact it sounded like lets get dirty. It was a remake/sample of it! :P
