Posted May 17, 200619 yr Razorlight - 'We're better than Arctic Monkeys' The band lay down the gauntlet Razorlight have claimed they are "better than Arctic Monkeys" as they gear up to finish their second album. The band, who are currently putting the finishing touches to the follow-up to 2004's debut 'Up All Night', have spoken exclusively to NME about their new record. When asked whether the group feel like Arctic Monkeys are better than his band, singer Johnny Borrell replied: "What? Of course I ****ing don't. I wouldn't say they're better than the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, either. Or The Strokes, or even like The Libertines were for those five minutes when they were brilliant. But they deserve it because the door was open for them and they blew the hinges off." Famous for his self-belief, Borrell has also revealed that he still feels like a genius, explaining: "When I said it, I certainly felt like more of a genius than the awful bands NME were championing... And a lot of the bands around now are pretty average. So, if you ask me if I feel like a genius compared to them, then yeah, I do." He added: "I feel like a genius more than most people, that's for sure." For the full interview with Razorlight, be sure to pick up this week's NME, which is out on newsstands nationwide today. May 17, 200619 yr Author The Arctics are better, yes but I do like Razorlight and as I said I've been waiting to see what Johnny has had to say about them for a long time considering his ego.
May 17, 200619 yr Jonny can be a complete arse sometimes. I can't say which is better as IMO there both better than each other in different ways.
May 18, 200619 yr i see he is getting a bit big for the boots. i mean when he has written a classic album then maybe he should say that.
May 18, 200619 yr Razorlight are ok. Arctics are brilliant. There's a difference. Agreed, not keen on Razorlight at all, but the Arctics have created a classic album full of catchy tunes.
May 18, 200619 yr Author Agreed, not keen on Razorlight at all, but the Arctics have created a classic album full of catchy tunes. It's a great album, yes but can we really call it a 'classic' yet?
May 19, 200619 yr The Arctics album is great, but I agree with Nicky I think its a few years to early to call it a classic yet.
May 19, 200619 yr It's a great album, yes but can we really call it a 'classic' yet? Perhaps a bit too soon, but there's so many great songs with catchy hooks, an overhyped album actually worth it's salt. It will become a classic by this time next year, it just has to be.
May 19, 200619 yr Author Yeah it's the start of something special, definitely :D But a classic is something we look back on meanwhile it's only been out for five months and I'm also still playing it to death.
May 23, 200619 yr I bought NME as well this week and read the interview in full whilst waiting for my train to come, and I think Jonny was putting the AM bashing on a little bit. However the little fued in the mag between Razorlight and The Kooks was hilarious, and my teacher was also really amused by the two interviews as well.
