Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead, Robbie Williams for ticket overhaul?

Bands lobby to get cut of ticket resales

05.Dec.07 1:21pm

http://www.nme.com/news/arctic-monkeys/32965

Representatives for bands including Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys and Robbie Williams are lobbying for their bands to receive royalties from tickets that are sold on after initially being bought.

Industry figures have formed a new group, the Resale Rights Society, which aims to have artists earna cut of tickets sales from auction sites and ticket exchange websites.

Marc Marot of the organisation told Reuters: "There are not only real issues of consumer protection here, it is unacceptable that not a penny of the estimated 200 million pounds is returned to the investors in the live music industry."

However, representatives from sites that benefit from ticket resales have hit back at the organisation.

Eric Baker of ticket resale site Viagogo said: "What they are saying here is no different to [saying] that if you had a used Ford car you should pay Ford a tax when you sold it."

and to think a lot of the tickets I got for the last tour were on ebay!
Robfan in answer to your 2nd part of your post. I believe from my understanding that NMS wanted Robbie to agree to read a letter he would write to him.

I think I recall something like that being reported.

Yes I think you're right Susie, he wanted to write a letter that he then wanted Rob to read.

That piece of scum must be on crack. The sheer nerve of even suggesting it ..... that bitter old fart !!!

I get the whole scalping thing and those ticket brokers and others should pay the artist some percentage when they resell the tickets for 10 times its face value ..... BUT, if for example, I buy tickets to a concert and then can't go, I want to sell them for the price I bought them for, I don't think I'd be doing anything wrong and so don't think I should be made to pay the artist a percentage for reselling them.

I think they should only go after those that re sell tickets over the face value.

Robbie Williams urged to chill

6 December 2007 - Robbie Williams needs to take a five-year break, according to his former manager.

The 'Angels' singer was ordered this week to pay Take That creator Nigel Martin-Smith £500,000 after attacking him on his 'Rudebox' album and Martin-Smith has claimed Robbie is a shadow of the star he once was.

He said: "Rob should have five years off as he can't swim against the tide of popularity.

"He needs to take some time off and stop loving himself so much."

Martin-Smith - who assembled the boy band in 1990 - also claimed Robbie should step out of the limelight to let Take That, who recently reformed without him, have their moment in the spotlight.

He said: "He's on the wane and Take That are on the up. Robbie should let the boys have their time in the sun."

In his song, 'The 90s', Robbie accused Martin-Smith of stealing money from Take That's tour payments and sang about gouging the 49-year-old music mogul's eyes out. The track was eventually removed from 2006's 'Rudebox' when Martin-Smith launched legal action.

Despite his court victory, Martin-Smith insisted he never wanted money from Robbie and just wanted him to apologise.

He said: "I never wanted any money off him, it wasn't about that. This could have been settled a long time ago, but he wouldn't apologise. He refused point blank to meet me or read any letters that I sent him to resolve."

The pair have already had dealings in court. In 1997, Nigel sued Robbie for breach of contract after he left Take That.

Good grief. Just been on Google to see if there is any updated Robbie news. And what do I find? Story after story of ' Robbie going to rejoin Take That- says his mother'.

Firstly, this 'story' came out way at the start of 2007. <_<

Secondly, it's total bunkum. <_<

DAILY RECORD UK...

Best Of This Week's: Robbie's On A High Note

Robbie Williams Live At The Albert Hall Sun, Sky One, 10pm Sunday December 9th.

He's been semi-retired in LA for years so this is an opportunity to remember what makes Robbie Williams so fabulous.

And it's screened in HD for the first time, to make it extra special. His 2001 concert at The Albert Hall was a tribute to the Rat Pack of the 50s.

Backed by a big band, he makes his way through classics Mack The Knife, Mr Bojangles and It Was A Very Good Year. Even Frank Sinatra appears in video form.

Semi-retired for YEARS?

He's been on a break for one bloody year FFS. It's hilarious to google his name, and fine endless articles with the headlines saying how he needs a break, then to read he has been semi-retired for years  How thick are these people

And all of these lazy articles about his mum saying he might rejoin TT, and from about 9 months back. Why have they been brought back up again? And she never actually said he might rejoin them as the headlines say, all she said was he would want to do something with them perhaps or something along those lines.

Sports beat Robbie in calendar wars

Sports hunks have overtaken pop stars in the calendar wars.

Usual favourites Robbie Williams and Kylie Minogue have dropped out of the top 10 chart of best-selling 2008 calendars.

Former Take That star Williams has been the best-selling for the last two years. But he fails to make the biggest-selling titles for 2008, according to Europe's biggest calendar maker, Danilo.

Pop princess Minogue has also been booted out of the top 10 despite having a place there for more than five years.

Instead, sport calendars have overtaken pop stars with the biggest sales for 2008. Liverpool Football Club is a new entry in second place, followed by Manchester United.

Doctor Who is fourth, with World Wrestling Entertainment fifth.

New entries Arsenal and Chelsea Football Club are sixth and seventh, while Chelsea shares its place with the Hunks And Babes from Hollyoaks.

The Simpsons are ninth and Sir Cliff Richard 10th compared with fourth place last year.

Girls Aloud, Take That and Westlife, who all appeared in the top 10 last year, are also out.

The biggest-selling calendar for 2008 is High School Musical.

Robbie in footie team row

By Sean Hamilton Showbiz Editor 09/12/2007

Robbie Williams has threatened to disband his beloved US football team after accusing LA football league bosses of "unbelievable bias".

In the last year singer Robbie, 33, has thrown all his energies into developing LA Vale - named after his hometown team in Stoke, Port Vale.

The low point for the star came when the team was fined four points at LA's Super Metro League clash and came only second, despite a win.

Robbie said in a statement: "This is a hugely harsh penalty for the team that has fought hard all season and played fair."

A source at the camp said: "Robbie is taking this really personally."
