Sports beat Robbie in calendar wars

Sports hunks have overtaken pop stars in the calendar wars.

Usual favourites Robbie Williams and Kylie Minogue have dropped out of the top 10 chart of best-selling 2008 calendars.

Former Take That star Williams has been the best-selling for the last two years. But he fails to make the biggest-selling titles for 2008, according to Europe's biggest calendar maker, Danilo.

Pop princess Minogue has also been booted out of the top 10 despite having a place there for more than five years.

Instead, sport calendars have overtaken pop stars with the biggest sales for 2008. Liverpool Football Club is a new entry in second place, followed by Manchester United.

Doctor Who is fourth, with World Wrestling Entertainment fifth.

New entries Arsenal and Chelsea Football Club are sixth and seventh, while Chelsea shares its place with the Hunks And Babes from Hollyoaks.

The Simpsons are ninth and Sir Cliff Richard 10th compared with fourth place last year.

Girls Aloud, Take That and Westlife, who all appeared in the top 10 last year, are also out.

The biggest-selling calendar for 2008 is High School Musical.

Big Bloody deal.......who cares ...it's only a calendar ( & a horrible one at that ). :P :P :P :P ....not too much thought went into selecting the pics.................

McCartney slams 'boring' EMI after split

AFP

LONDON (AFP) — British rock legend Sir Paul McCartney criticised his former record label EMI for its "boring" approach, and accused it of taking him for granted in an interview Friday.

Speaking to The Times daily, McCartney said he also became frustrated with the amount of time it took for EMI to release a song -- while he wanted them released within weeks, record label executives expected to take months.

"Everybody at EMI had become a part of the furniture," McCartney told the newspaper.

"I'd be a couch; Coldplay are an armchair. And Robbie Williams, I dread to think what he was ... But the most important thing was, I'd felt (the people at EMI) had become really very boring, y'know? And I dreaded going to see them."

Asked what he meant by accusing the record company of being "boring", McCartney responded: "Well, because I could guess what they were going to say."

He added that he became frustrated with what he described as the "treadmill" approach of the company when it came to marketing music: "You go somewhere, speak to a million journalists for one day, and you get all the same questions. It's mind-numbing.

"So I started saying: 'God, we've got to do something else'."

McCartney split with EMI earlier this year, and released his latest album "Memory Almost Full" with coffee giant Starbucks's newly-launched Hear Music label.

He lamented the amount of time it took for EMI to develop a marketing strategy for his songs, telling The Times he would ask the label for a song to be released the week after he wrote it, only to be told by executives that it would take six months instead.

"I said: 'Wait a minute, are you sure you need six months for that? Couldn't some bright people do that in two days?"

That That rule out Robbie reunion

BOY Band Take That have snubbed Robbie Williams by ruling out any future reunion.

Gary Barlow, 36, said there was "no place" for the Angels star in the band anymore, despite reported claiming just a few weeks ago that the door was "always open" for the troubled singer.

Barlow said: "I think, when it comes down to it, he's just not going to be in the band again. I just don't think there's a place for him now here."

He dealt a further blow to Williams, 33, by saying the rest of the band shared an amazing bond.

Former Celebrity Big Brother contestant Mark Owen, 35, said when the group re-formed: "We asked him, but he had other commitments - he had to walk his dog that day".

Take That have enjoyed rave reviews for their sell-out tour but Rudebox, the last album from Williams, failed to match the success of previous offerings.

Williams left the chart-topping boy band in 1995 and immediately blamed his departure on his frayed relationship with Barlow.

The group reformed after a 10-year split, but Williams shunned the tour and subsequent new album.

Ooh, has Mark Owen just made a bitchy dig at Robbie?

Posted by heatworld on Friday 14 Dec 2007

Out of all the Take Thatters, Mark Owen is the one closest to ex-bandmate Robbie Williams. Or at least, that's what we thought – until we read what we think might be a catty comment, straight from the mouth of Mark, in the new edition of The Big Issue. When asked what happenned when the boys approached Rob about reforming, he said, "We asked him, but he had other commitments: he had to walk his dog that day." Mi-and indeed-ow. He went on to say, “I think when it comes down to it, he’s just not going to be in the band again. I just don’t think there’s a place for him now here.”

To read the interview in full, buy The Big Issue on sale Monday 17 December.

ITV

Gary Barlow has taken the top spot in a poll to find the 'Best Haircut In Pop Music'.

The Take That star scooped 65% of the vote in the survey by hair-care firm Brylcreem to "find out which male celebrities score best and worst in the hairstyle stakes".

Men's Hairdresser of the Year Louis Byrne said: "Gary Barlow has had a fantastic year and to be winner is the crowning glory. He sports a classic groomed look - impressive yet effortless."

Singer James Morrison finished second on the list, followed by music producer Mark Ronson, Razorlight frontman Johnny Borrell and The Kills guitarist Jamie Hince, who is currently dating Kate Moss.

Robbie Williams came fourth in the 'Worst Music Personality Hairstyles of 2007', which saw Pete Doherty take the number one spot.

David Beckham and Jude Law triumphed in the best sport and acting hairstyles categories in the survey, conducted to mark the sixth annual Brylcreem National Men's Hair Week.
