Posted December 6, 200717 yr A canoeist who went missing for five years before reappearing at the weekend has been taken to a police station in the North East for questioning. John Darwin - arrested by Cleveland Police on suspicion of fraud - is being held at Kirkleatham police station. The 57-year-old was believed dead after going missing while canoeing off the coast of Hartlepool in March 2002, but handed himself into police on Saturday. It emerged officers began investigating his reappearance three months ago. Mr Darwin's canoe was found in pieces the day after his disappearance, leading to the assumption he had drowned. But he walked into a police station in London on Saturday and told officers: "I think I am a missing person." He claimed he could remember nothing since 2000. He was reunited with his sons and arrested by police at the home of one of them in Hampshire late on Tuesday before being driven to the North East. Mr Darwin covered his head with a newspaper as he arrived at the police station, flanked by two officers just before 2330 GMT on Wednesday night. Police revealed earlier in the day that new information had caused them to reopen the case in September. The detective leading the case also said they may be questioning Mr Darwin's wife Anne, who emigrated to Panama six weeks ago. source: BBC news This looks like him and his wife might have engineered a fraud claiming his life policy. Or do you believe that he really is suffering from amnesia?
December 6, 200717 yr it was a rather poor ploy.... the photo of them taken last year in panama is genuine, the wife has confessed to the scam. idiots.
December 6, 200717 yr i mean... if you are going to pull a stunt like that you wouldnt be photographed together! ESPECIALLY in the country you were going to set up home! these two are IDIOTS, why didnt he just keep schtum and go to panama? why go to the police station? his mrs had no doubt had a huge insurance payout... they coulda gotten away with it... talk about shooting yourself in the foot <_<
December 6, 200717 yr Hmmmm, Looks to me like someone tried to pull a "Reggie Perrin" or "John Stonehouse" and kinda fecked up....
December 6, 200717 yr What a silly t***  serves him right that he will be sewing mailbags for a good few years
December 6, 200717 yr he will be sewing mailbags for a good few years Do they still actually do that in prison though...? I thought these days it was all "touchy feely" and prisoners getting "in touch with their feelings", not "Breaking rocks in the hot sun" as The Clash would have it (yeah, I know it was a cover, but The Clash's version of "I Fought The Law" is the definitive one... :P )
December 6, 200717 yr Do you think him and his wife had a fight and he took revenge by visiting a police station.
December 8, 200717 yr I love the fact someone put their names and Panama into Google and found that photo of them  anyhow, he's been charged
