U2 in Dublin working on new album

U2 are in the studio in Dublin working on their eagerly-awaited new album with Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno.

Speaking to Billboard.com about the album, Lanois said: We're going to try and break new sonic ground and deliver a masterpiece. The sleeves are rolled up. Bono is all charged up with a lyrical angle."

The group have already worked on their new songs in three sessions in France and Morocco.

Commenting on speculation that the sessions could result in two albums, Lanois said: "There's so much material. When you get Eno and I and those guys in the room, before lunch there's like eight things."

There is no release date at present for the record. <_<

U2's new concert film, 'U23D', opens in Irish cinemas tomorrow, Thursday 21 February. To win posters signed by the film's director, click here.

Daniel Lanois is among the artists appearing on tonight's episode of 'Other Voices' on RTÉ Two at 11.30pm.

Wonder which album will be out first? U2's or Robbie's? (In 2023 obviously :( )

I'd imagine it will be out later this year as they've been working on it for bloody ages. The last one was four bloody years ago

Btw, it won't be a dance album, the edge said Bono was mid-quoted. What he really said was "dense"

U2 'Starting To Get Serious About New Album'

But it won't be out anytime soon... :(

by Jason Gregory

23 April 2008

U2 Guitarist The Edge has revealed that the band are starting to get serious about their as-yet-untitled new album.

As previously reported, the band have been recording the LP at their home studio in Dublin alongside Brian Eno.

Speaking to the Associated Press, The Edge wouldn’t be drawn on the album’s sound or a release date, only to say that it won't be released “in the next few months.”

"We went into this project allowing ourselves the indulgence of making music without thinking about where it was going to end up," he said.

"We're starting to get serious now."

Meanwhile, The Edge has confirmed that he has donated a number of personal items, including two Gibson guitars, to an auction benefiting Music Rising.

The charity, which was co-founded by the guitarist, raises money to replace musical equipment lost or destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

"A lot of musicians were forced to leave the city, leaving behind their instruments and record collections, everything they needed to do what they do," The Edge explained.

 the next few months, is better than the next few years

just looking on the positive side :cheer:

He says it 'won't be released in the next few months'. That could mean 20 years from now.
let's hope it won't be that long

Edited by ~Maria~

 that probably means no tour then either for the next 20 years,

good job I saw them in 3D :w00t:

U2 scrap work and start again

25/04/2008 - 3:16:02 PM

Rockers U2 are scrapping all the tracks they have written for their next album to start all over again - ditching a year's worth of work. :o :o :o

The band has been working on the follow up to 2004 LP 'How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb' for the past 12 months, but they're far from happy with the results.

Guitarist The Edge reveals band members have mostly messed around in the studio - and they have now decided to get stuck in and finish the record.

He tells 'CMUMusic.com': "We went into this project allowing ourselves the indulgence of making music without thinking about where it was going to end up. We're starting to get serious now".

I don't buy it at all. There is no quote from Edge saying that. The headline is misleading :smoke: I've read over the past few months, Bono and the Edge say that they had loads of amazing material, so I find it hard to believe. The release date in most papers is October :drink:

I agree. I've read this article a few times and I can't see anywhere that Edge said U2 had scrapped 12 months song writing work.
