U2 move album sessions to France

19 May 2008

U2 soundman Joe O’Herlihy has revealed that following a stint in Dublin’s Windmill Lane Studios, the band are set to do some warm weather recording overseas.

“I’m heading out to France to begin working with them on it,” Joe tells hotpress.com. “They decided they needed a few rays while they were working on the new songs. But things are in full swing working towards a new album. We’re hoping to have something in the can come September/October. We’ll know in the next couple of months how things shape up but that’s what they’re aiming for. All things being equal they will more than likely tour in 2009. They love it. It’s their life and it’s what they do.”

Joe has more to say about U2, The Undertones and his beloved Cork in the next issue of Hot Press, out on Thursday.

That New Record

Paul McGuinness has been talking to BBC's 6 Music about the new record - and when it might arrive.

The exact release date, he said, was "not clear yet but I would think towards the end of October". :cheer:

"We will obviously work with whatever technology is available to make the release of the new record as interesting as possible," he added.

Bono and crew dine out after finally finishing album

:cheer:

By Barry Egan

Sunday July 06 2008

BONO hosted a swish party last weekend in Town Bar & Grill. Since he is in the restaurant every other Friday night with the Simon Carmody Community (Guggi, Gavin et al) I can only assume he subscribes to the faithful party ideology. But I digress. All the other members of U2 were also present. Well, they would, wouldn't they? The soiree was to celebrate the completion of their long-awaited new album.

Also in attendance those well-known U2 fans Mary Harney and her husband Brian Geoghegan as well as Ian Dempsey, Mark Kershaw and one of the Irish Models in party mode.

On the subject of parties, Harmonia publisher Norah Casey hosted a six-course meal in her house on Palmerston Road in Ranelagh last night for the charity Angel's Quest. Norah's close friend Richard Corrigan flew in from London (with his wife Maria) to cook the main course. Derry Clarke cooked the first and second courses and Kevin Dundon the deserts.

Guests who were expected last night included Lorraine Keane and husband Peter Devlin, comic Barry Murphy and wife Flo McSweeney, Margaret Nelson (in celebratory mode having been appointed chief executive of FM104 two days ago), Brian Hayes (CEO Citibank) and Michael Davern (CEO K-Club). The champagne served on arrival was kindly donated by Harvey Nichols, and later at the meal, fine wine was supplied by Febvre.

Galloping gourmet Richard Corrigan will also be holding a charity evening at the official launch of Bentley's Bar & Grill in Stephen's Green Dublin on July 25th.

It'll be great to finally have something musical to discuss on here

The best is yet to come

Sunday Mirror via atu2.com

U2's legendary producer, Steve Lillywhite, claims the band's eagerly-awaited new album will be their BEST ever. He has worked with the band since their first album, Boy, was released in 1981, and now he is back in the studio with them as they put the finishing touches to their latest album prior to its October release.

Veteran DJ Tony Fenton said he met Steve and was struck by how the told how the famous producer was ranting about the new album. Tony said: "I met Steve recently and we got talking about the band's new album. He is so excited about the record and claims it's the best record they have ever done.

"I know people think he might say that -- but that's not the kind of thing somebody like Steve Lillywhite says easily. Like the rest of people who love music I'm so looking forward to it."

U2 even missed the recent Nelson Mandela Tribute Concert in London because they were so caught up in putting the final touches to the album at their Hanover Quay Studios in Dublin's Docklands.

The group recorded initially recorded a lot of new material in Morocco -- but then scrapped a lot of it and started again because they didn't think it was up to their high standards.

A source said: "U2 have never put out a dud record and they don't want to start now. In fact it's got to the stage with them that they want to put out a classic but still make it fresh and new. They know they are coming very close but they still have a bit of work to do yet."

The album is the first studio work the band will released since their smash hit How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb in 2004.

How exciting. I have a really good feeling about this album. I really hope it is right up their with Achung Baby in terms of originality and inovation  If Brian Eno is heavily involved than it will be another classic. Afterall he produced their four best albums ever (imo), Unforgetable Fire, Joshua Tree, Achung Baby and All That You Can't Leave Behind.

I.... :w00t: CAN`T .... :w00t: WAIT ..... :w00t: :w00t: :w00t: :w00t:

Have U2 lost the edge?

Written by Fergus McCarthy

Bono's reading glasses

Rumours are circulating, being recycled and then recirculated again this evening in Dublin, where Irelands best known tax dodgers, rock group U2, are holed up in a recording studio adding the final touches to their latest album which is as yet untitled, and will remain so until Bono is crowned Emperor of Africa.

Producers Fr Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois and Steve Lilywhite have hailed the new album as U2's greatest yet and have been quick to nip rumours that U2 have lost the edge as '$h!te talk.'

"I dont know where this c**p comes from I really dont." Snapped a clearly irritated Fr Eno as he emerged from a side door, apparently on an errand to buy milk and toilet roll.

"I've just had a cup of coffee with the Edge less than 15 minutes ago, he's in there playing with Larry.

"I know we lost Adam in Amsterdam a few years back but true to form he came back when we cancelled his credit card and I'll admit we nearly lost Larry to the Corr's last year but the idea of U2 losing the Edge is just absurd."

U2's new album is due for release after they have finished recording it, a tradition Larry is particularly proud of.

"We never release it until we've recorded it, we've always done it that way and It works for us."

Prominent artists and musicians such as Noel Gallagher, Girls aloud, Richard Clayderman and The Wiggles have all collaborated on the easy listening soft jazz collection.

Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher has gone on record as saying that working on the album has been an honour.

"It's just their music, yeah'?" Gallagher enthused on Channel 4 racing last week. "The showmanship, the lyrics, y'know? The sheer energy they put in to their gigs.

"The Beatles might be legends but these guys are living legends.

"These 4 lads have been selling out stadiums for years and there's no one that can match them or catch them. In my opinion, they're the ultimate super group.

"I love the Wiggles me."

The edge is still missing.
