Yet again this idiot is in the news for the wrong reasons. Let's have a look at his CV.

Barton sparked a ten-man brawl in a friendly match against Doncaster Rovers on 25 July 2004 after "hacking" at an opposition player...

the club considered sacking Barton in December 2004 after an incident at their Christmas party. Duringthe party, Barton stubbed his cigar on several guests outfits. Youth player Jamie Tandy took exception, and after retaliating with his own lighter, Barton stubbed his cigar in the player's eye

The following summer, Barton was sent home from a pre-season tournament in Thailand after assaulting a 15-year-old Everton supporter

Barton underwent anger management therapy at the order of City manager Stuart Pearce and paid £120,000 in club fines

September 2006, television cameras captured Barton exposing his backside to Everton fans, following City's injury-time equaliser in a game at Goodison Park

Barton displayed his outspokenness once again on 22 April 2007 when he publicly criticised City's performances during the 2006–07 season, as well as describing some of the players the club had signed as "substandard".[47]Following his comments, City's manager Stuart Pearce banned him from speaking to the media

Barton was fined £100,000 and suspended by City until the end of the 2006–07 season on 1 May 2007, following a training ground incident in which he allegedly assaulted his team mate Ousmane Dabo. Dabo stated that he had been hit several times, and had to go to hospital after suffering injuries to his head, including a suspected detached retina.

During his first Tyne-Wear derby for Newcastle against Sunderland, Barton raised his foot dangerously in a challenge with Sunderland's Dickson Etuhu, leading to the News of the World running with the headline "Ban Him".

Early in December, he launched an attack on Newcastle fans, due to their abuse of manager Sam Allardyce and other players

Barton has also found himself at the centre of controversy outside football. In May 2005 he broke a 35-year-old pedestrian's leg while driving his car through Liverpool city centre at 2 am. He was also arrested on suspicion of criminal assault and criminal damage after an alleged argument with a taxi driver in Liverpool while going to his hotel after a match on 13 March 2007. On 27 December 2007, Barton was arrested on suspicion of assault in the Church Street area of Liverpool city centre following an incident which took place at 5:30 am.

I hope, but doubt, that Newcastle give him the sack he deserves!

I actually rated him as a good player at City, he could have been a good squad player for the England National team, but now i'd be disgusted to support him. A common yob would be in prison by now if they'd done that list of things.

When is his court case for the Dabo attack? I thought it was coming up soon

I saw an interview with him on Inside Sport a few weeks back, and he was talking about how is brother murdered somebody and he was asked about how that effected his life, he just said that it had nothing to do with him and that he can handle it... I'm not to sure. I think it all gets to him. He's a genuinely good player, but his temperment lets him down a bit... It's a shame really. but he's had to many chances now.... Sam Allardyce would be mad to keep him on now.

Vile creature though he clearly is he is also an outstanding footballer, one of the best in his position in the country so while he does have issues if he was offered to Spurs I would take him in a heartbeat

He is employed as a footballer so stuff that goes on in his private life is a matter for the authorities and is unrelated to football so I think he should be allowed to play football

Oh Joey always makes me laugh. His excuses are top-notch, especially regarding the whole cigarette-in-the-eye incident. I recall a radio interview in which he said something along the lines of "I only meant to jab him in the back of the head with the cigarette; then he turned around and I caught him in the eye. There was no malicious intent."

But yes, very good player but shouldn't really still be employed by the football club. Just a shame the whole "Big Sam can tame him" facade has all gone to pieces as he would've actually been a crucial player [ignoring recurring injuries] for a team like Newcastle this year.

He's a t*** tbh, but yes, a very good player. And whilst it may be his private life Craig, he does kinda bring this stuff into football when he decides to pull his shorts down on a football pitch. :(

In most professions you'd be 100% right. But he's a top-flight footballer who gets regular media attention, and for a huge amount of young boys, footballers are idols. Would you want your kid to grow up wanting to be Joey Barton?

He's a really good player who could have become a much better player had his mind not been so screwed. I've stuck by him before in the past as when he puts his mind to it he really can be a great player, but he's well and truly f***ed himself up now and there's no way back for the guy, well, unless he clears up his act.

He's had too many second chances and he's not re-paid the faith shown in him by having good behaviour. I thought him going to Newcastle would be a fresh start for him but if anything the move has done him even worse. I actually think if he'd have stayed with Man City he'd have become such a better player than he is at the moment as Sven would have been able to get a great deal more out him.

Unfortunately for him too, I doubt Capello will ever want him in his England squad either...

His lifestyle is well documented in the media though so I think anyone that aspires to be like the guy off the pitch would have to have certain character traits that make them unpleasant anyways
