Christie Hennessy’s posthumously-released duets album ‘The Two Of Us’ settles at No2, his best showing on this chart since 1993 when ‘A Year In The Life’ spent 7 weeks at No1. After 5 weeks at the top, Mary Black finally slips down to No3 this week with ’25 Years – 25 Songs’, ahead of the next new entry – Portishead’s appropriately-titled ‘Third’ at No4. Their first album ‘Dummy’ peaked at No14 in 1995 and the follow-up ‘Portishead’ debuted and peaked at No3 in 1997 – eleven years ago. The Last Shadow Puppets drop from No2 to No5 with ‘The Age Of The Understatement’, one place ahead of the fourth and final new entry in this week’s Top 10: John Spillane’s ‘My Dark Rosaleen & The Island Of Dreams’. This is his third hit album in Ireland, following ‘Will We Be Brilliant Or What?’ (No14 in 2002) and ‘Hey Dreamer’ (No4 in 2005). Sharon Shannon & Mundy have a fourth week at No1 on the Singles Chart with ‘The Galway Girl’, heading a Top 5 unchanged from last week: Madonna & Justin Timberlake at No2, Flo Rida at No3, Estelle & Kanye West at No4 and Dustin at No5. The Script bound into this week’s Top 10 with ‘We Cry’, up from No18 to No9, but the highest climber honours go to Nelly with ‘Party People’ (feat. Fergie), up 20 places from No37 to No17. Shakyfan's Commentary Biggest shock of the week has to be Amy's Got Ur Number which falls straight out of the Top 50 having debuted last week at 9. No idea why this should be unles there was some dodgy purchasing going on and it was disqualified. Meanwhile another song which went into freefall from a Top 10 position - The Munster Song - rebounded back to 24 last week and has a more reasonable drop to 31 this week. An interesting observation - in the past it was usually quite easy to pick up "local hits" from the Irish charts in stores in N Ireland. That has stopped in the last few years (in many shops its often hard enough to find the big UK hits, never mind imports) but last week several branches of HMV were selling the CD of Galway Girl (not the scheduled, possibly now cancelled, UK version with Steve Earle getting top billing but the 2 track Mundy & Sharon Shannon one) and today our local branch which normally only carries about a dozen titles at a time had around 20 copies of Dustin's single sitting on the counter. BTW anyone looking for the studio version featuring Mundy should try Zavvi who are selling a sampler CD called "That's Proper Folk" for £2 - its the final track on the album. Finally a word of warning - not only will we have to put up with the X Factor winner this year, Irish language channel TG4 have announced that they will be running a competition to find a Christmas number 1. The Singles Chart has a familiar look to it this week, with the Top 3 unchanged from last week - Sharon Shannon & Mundy at No1 (for a fifth week), Madonna & Justin Timberlake at No2 and Flo Rida at No3. Will.i.am and Cheryl Cole climb into the Top 10 with ‘Heartbreaker’, up from No12 to No9, and the highest new entry is from singer/songwriter Ruth-Anne with downloads of her debut single ‘Take Me Away’ at No13. The Two of Us which features Christie Hennessy duetting with an assortment of acts on his most popular songs was recorded during his illness last year and was completed just before his death in December. Meanwhile Sharon Shannon's long term partner died suddenly on Wednesday of this week. Tara Blaise was pushed as John Hughes' post Corrs project in 2005 when her first album Dancing On Tables Barefoot was released. Although the first single - Paperback Cliche - spent 2 weeks in the Top 50 peaking at 37 the album failed to chart at all. The follow-up - Great Escape - does slightly better debuting at 52. Her hit-rate is really impressive: six of her nine singles have made the Top 5 and eight have reached the Top 10. The Ting Tings hold steady at No2 with ‘That’s Not My Name’ while Madonna and Justin’s ‘4 Minutes’ slips back to No3 after one week on top. Despite his failed Eurovision bid this week, Dustin halts his downward slide as ‘Ireland Douze Points’ re-enters the Top 10 at No8 from last week’s No11. With the best selling single of the year so far under her belt, Sharon Shannon finally gets her first Irish No1 Album this week with her hits collection ‘The Galway Girl – The Best Of’ which climbs to the summit after two weeks at No2. Having previously clocked up Top 5 hits with 2000’s ‘Diamond Mountain Sessions’ and 2003’s ‘Libertango’, which both reached No4, and a No2 position for her last hits compilation ‘The Collection 1990-2005’, the top spot has until now remained elusive. Christie Hennessy’s ‘The Two Of Us’ drops a place to No2 while the No3 spot is occupied by this week’s highest new entry – Salford duo The Ting Tings debut album ‘We Started Nothing’. As he embarks on the Dublin leg of his World Tour, Bruce Springsteen sees two albums re-enter the Top 20 as ‘Magic’ climbs from No36 to No10 and ‘Greatest Hits’ moves from No34 to No12. Shakyfan's Commentary A bad week for Dustin at Eurovision but things pick up slightly as Irelande Douze Pointe re-enters the Top 10. Re-entering the Top 50 meanwhile is Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's "Somewhere Over The Rainbow / What A Wonderful World" which the irma website claims is on its 5th week in the chart though my records suggest 4. After playing three nights in Dublin he sees eleven of his albums from his 35 year recording career residing in the Top 75 with two titles in the Top 10: ‘Magic’ climbs from last week’s No10 to No6 while his ‘Greatest Hits’ climbs from No12 to No7. An achievement that equals that of U2 who after their 2005 Dublin show also saw eleven of their albums back in the Chart. Despite Bruce’s onslaught Sharon Shannon claims the No1 Album slot for a second week with her greatest hits package – ‘The Galway Girl – The Best Of’ – fending off competition from Usher whose fifth studio album ‘Here I Stand’ enters the Chart at No2. This gives him his best first weeks showing in the Chart to date. His 2004 release ‘Confessions’ had to be content with a first week at No8 although it did climb to the top of the Chart 4 weeks later. Scooter climb back up a place from last weeks No4 to take the No3 spot with ‘Jumping All Over The World’, while this weeks highest new entry goes to Michael English’s ‘All My Life’ which enters at No9 – also his best first weeks showing - beating his previously most successful album – ‘Nearest To Perfect’ - which entered at No12. This week’s Singles Chart remains steady at the summit with Rihanna’s ‘Take A Bow’ having a second week at No1 and The Ting Tings’ ‘That’s Not My Name’ taking a third week at No2. Sharon Shannon slips to No2 after two weeks at the top with ‘The Galway Girl – The Best Of’, ahead of Scooter who hold at No3 with ‘Jumping All Over The World’. Paul Weller has the next new entry at No6 with ‘22 Dreams’, his fourth solo Top 10 album: 2004’s ‘Studio 51’ made No5, while earlier albums ‘Heavy Soul’ and ‘Stanley Road’ both made No7. Rihanna returns to the Top 10 after a 12-week break, with the release of the new ‘Reloaded’ version of ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ - a No1 for her back in January. The top of the Singles Chart has a familiar look to it, with Rihanna taking a third week at No1 with ‘Take A Bow’, Ting Tings holding at No2 for a fourth week with ‘That’s Not My Name’ and Usher steady at No3 with ‘Love In This Club’. Mint Royale break the deadlock with a new entry at No5 - ‘Singin’ In The Rain’, popularised recently by ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ winner George Samson as his signature tune and prior to that as the theme to Volkswagen’s 2005 GTi ad. Shakyfan's Commentary 52 weeks in the Top 50 for Galway Girl which made its UK Top 75 debut (Steve Earle version) at 70 last Sunday! And not far behind is Journey's Don't Stop Believin' which is on its 49th week. This is his fifth Irish Top 10 album, matching the No2 debut for ‘To Hell Or Barbados’ a year ago but failing to reach the dizzy heights of ‘Shots’ which spent a week at the top on release in March 2005. Quite a way off the record for consecutive weeks at no 2 which, ironically is held by........ Love Is All Around. On 14th May 1994 Bill Whelan's Riverdance entered the chart at number 1 and remained there for 18 consecutive weeks. Stuck at number 2 behind it were Eurovision winners Paul Harrington & Charlie McGettigan - Rock n Roll Kids (1 week), Man Utd FC - Come On You Reds (4 weeks) AND Wet Wet Wet - Love Is All Around which spent 13 weeks as runner-up without ever reaching the top. Riverdance was eventually suceeded by another instrumental - Perez Prado's Guaglione - on 17th September.

In the process they record the highest weekly sales (outside the Christmas period) since U2’s ‘How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb’ in November 2004 – and the highest weekly sales outside the 4th Quarter since Oasis ‘Be Here Now’ way back in September 1997. This is their third consecutive No1 album in Ireland (their debut ‘Parachutes’ peaked at No2), but outsells both ‘A Rush Of Blood’ and ‘X&Y’ convincingly in terms of first week sales. Former label-mates Radiohead dip to No2 after two weeks on top with ‘The Best Of’, ahead of Sharon Shannon’s ‘The Galway Girl – The Best Of’ steady at No3 and Damien Dempsey’s ‘The Rocky Road’, down from No2 to No4. Following Saturday’s Croke Park gig Neil Diamond has two albums in this week’s Top 10: ‘Home Before Dark’ climbs from No7 to No5 and ‘The Best Of’ leaps from No63 to No9. After three weeks in the Top 10 Singles Chart on the strength of downloads, the CD release of ‘Forever’ catapults Chris Brown to his first Irish No1. This is the first time that a mother & daughter have both had No1 singles in Ireland and the single is a charity release in support of raising road safety awareness. Chris Brown slips to No2 with ‘Forever’ after one week on top, but as consolation he has a Top 10 debut with Jordin Sparks ‘No Air’, up from No22 to No10. Rihanna dips from No2 to No3 with ‘Take A Bow’, ahead of Coldplay’s ‘Viva La Vida’, down from No3 to No4. Ne-Yo climbs from No12 to No5 with ‘Closer’, released this week on CD to give him his biggest hit in Ireland since ‘So Sick’ reached No2 in March 2006. Coldplay coast to a second week at No1 on the Album Chart this week with ‘Viva La Vida’, still outselling all chart rivals by a massive margin: their total sales this week are greater than the combined sales of the next five titles. Duffy climbs from No7 to No2 with ‘Rockferry’, which has now spent 17 weeks in the Top10 since debuting at No1 at the beginning of March. Chris Brown leaps from No48 to No3 with ‘Exclusive’, thanks to the release this week of the new ‘Forever Edition’ – with bonus tracks including his No1 ‘Forever’. Icelandic 4-piece Sigur Rós have this week’s highest new entry at No4 with their fifth studio album ‘Með Suð í Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaus’, which translates as ‘With a Buzz in Our Ears We Play Endlessly’. Their chart success has improved with each of their five studio albums: their first album ‘Von’ never charted, second album ‘Ágætis Byrjun’ debuted at No33 in 2000, third album ‘()’ came in at No17 in 2002 and their fourth album ‘Takk…’ debuted at No6 in 2005. Shakyfan's Commentary As mentioned in the Chart-Track commentary history is made this week as Leanne Moore follows in her mother's footsteps by debuting at no 1 with her first single. Chart show presenter Larry Gogan referred to this today just after playing On Wings which was not played in the now-traditional slot just before 4 o'clock but was delayed until after the news. For further details on this check back to my commentary of 22nd March this year. The observant amongst you will have noticed that the 2 album charts are slightly shorter this week. This is due to problems accessing the irma website over the last couple of days. Hopefully the problem will be resolved and when it is I will add the missing data.
