January 12, 200817 yr What's 'proper'? It was released to downloads that's a release. And as for limited release, look at Katie Melua/Eva Cassidy. That was out for a few weeks and then got deleted, was that not a single then? I think if the chart position was different people would be handling this entirely different.... does it have a catalogue number? that's the St Trinian's Theme, not the full soundtrack. And it is still to download on other sites, iTunes is not the Internet :P of course Katie and Eva was a single, the physical was available in Tesco. I felt sorry for all the people who asked me whether we sold it at Zavvi over Xmas. Definitely demand for it.
January 12, 200817 yr Yes you could but it would never make it to TV because you don't hold the copyright... GA's label/the film people sent the video out to sell the song/movile. It was downloaded by x number of people and it made the chart. How isn't that a single? if that's how you classify a single, then every single track on iTunes is a single, and some artists aren;t even scraping the top 500,000 :P
January 13, 200817 yr Basically yes. Every single past and present can be treated like a single if its available to buy. Thats why album tracks (i.e Leonas etc) when the albums are first released get into the chart. It will def show in the guiness book because I dont know why it wouldnt. Its a song with them on that got into the chart, but since the general public dont even know it got into the chart, I doubt people will say it stopped their top10 chart run anyway.
January 15, 200817 yr if that's how you classify a single, then every single track on iTunes is a single, and some artists aren;t even scraping the top 500,000 True.
January 16, 200817 yr Is this debate still going on? I think my statement about Girls Aloud fans being hardcore is being proved quite well! As for the "single" issue, as I have stated before, by definition, it is a SINGLE track on whatever media it happens to be on (The word SINGLE is the giveaway here), whether it was vinyl, CD, cassette or download. Granted most come packaged with B-sides and remixes but this is purely incentive to buy the single track released by the record company. The Girls Aloud track in question HAS been OFFICIALLY released by the record company, otherwise I would imagine Apple would be on the end of a rather hefty lawsuit right now. Promotion is not a question here....there has never been a stipulation in the charts that a record must be promoted to make the chart. But, I would also imagine that there WOULD be a clause in any "record books" that the track was a "download only" track and may not ruin this increasingly meaningless record that particular board members seem desperate to cling on to. I'd imagine none of the members of the band or their management would lose any sleep if the record came to an end!! I do not either hate nor like Girls Aloud, but personally I would find it hysterical if their next "official" release missed the top ten after all this furore! :P
January 18, 200817 yr This debate is hilarious  Right!... A single is a song which is released physically on a CD or a download which is from an EP not an LP! And like I said already, their record is '17 consecutive top 10 singles', not '17 consecutive songs that charted in the top 10' Also, this happened with The Beatles ;) they had 22 consecutive top 10's then an unreleased song charted and they just put a star with the article saying it did chart but it wasn't released by the band, so we'll probably get.. Girls Aloud - 17 consecutive top 10 singles * *St Trinians Theme charted on downloads alone however it was not released by the band and so does not count as a single. So basically they're free to have their 18th, 19th etc. etc. consecutive top 10 singles now And the Sugas vs GA debate -_- Lets clear this up.... Sugas are FAR more successful than GA, they sell bucketloads of albums, have had 6 no.1's and also do well in other countries apart from the UK. GA have had more consecutive Top 10's, Yes! but no one is saying that makes them more successful than the Sugas, because it clearly doesn't! I prefer GA to Sugas, love them both but GA  but I know that Sugas p*** all over them when it comes to record sales. But! there is room for both bands in the charts, which is shown- they both do very well! Sugas sell better with albums and GA sell better with tours :P They both win ^_^ Here Here, everything you said there is correct- can we just stop with this constant battle of the bands!
January 18, 200817 yr This whole GA vs sugababes thing is stupid. Half of what you lot are saying is not valid anyway. Look how many sales the spice girls have in total (way more than both acts) and yet they cant even make the top now like GA do everytime. Does that mean the spice girls are bigger than GA? No, not when they have done a sell out tour allover the globe. The rivalry between the two is ridiculous especially as there are only 2 girl bands left. Neither is having any impact on how the other is doing and why? because there is plenty of room for both. So come on people, lets share a bit of love for both bands. They are both doing really well.

Agree with what you have said. I'm sick of this rilvary. It will be a different tune when both bands do split - eventually. For example, I preferred Steps to S Club and hated it that S Club would get the #1s and Steps would get the #2s. But in the real lull of pop music in the last few years (though its now looking up) i missed both bands. Both groups have their faults and their strengths and i think we should celebrate the success of both bands and how they have kept pop in the public conscience through the difficult years. And, if i'm honest, i don't think one can survive without the other. Maybe the rilvary is actually healthy, because it keeps interest in both groups. When you think there has always been two main girlbands in the public awareness. At the moment it is: Girls Aloud and Sugababes before GA it was Sugababes and Atomic Kitten then there was Attomic Kitten and All Saints All Saints and B*Witched All Saints and Spice Girls Thats in my lifetime, in the 80's there may have been Bananarama and The Bangles but i can't remember if they released around the same time as eachother
January 18, 200817 yr I wouldn't say SB are FAR more successful than GA in the UK. Ok, their albums sales are generally higher (Change hasn't sold half a million more than Tangled Up you know). And not to even mention the GH sales of last year... :P On Tour GA are beating SB all the way, they have to add new dates in most of the Arenas (including the quite huge O2 arena and MEN arena), while SB Tour seems to be far less popular (smaller venues, etc)... and that's where most of the money come from you know. A single is less than one pound on Itunes, an album is less than 10 pounds, and a ticket is about 30 or 40 pounds... lol Aswell, if I'm right, they have more celebrity appeal, I think Cheryl, Nadine and Sarah are well more known from the general audience. Not one tabloid or mamagazine without a GA mention it seems lol

GA make absolute PENNIES from their music because they write f*** all. Unlike the Sugababes who co-write every single track. I love them both, just wish some people would just face facts. Suga's are more successful end of chat. As for this whole St Trinians thing, i dont class it as a single at all.
January 18, 200817 yr It isnt end of chat atall, its how you percieve it as an individual. Just because Sugababes have sold more albums than GA does not make them neccessarily more successful. It does if you measure success on albums but not everyone does. Plus, GA sold more GH albums than the sugababes which i think says a lot about an overall achievement for your music. If you measure success on the amount of top 10's, GA are more sucessful than the sugababes. (the guiness book of records does). GA are also a more influential band in the UK in terms of tv shows and advertising deals and get more tour sales. Dont get me wrong, i love the sugababes, always have but for me, GA walk allover the sugababes in terms of who is bigger but thats because i look at the whole package and not just who has sold more. If someone thinks the sugababes are bigger because of their album sales, then they are quite valid to have that opinion cause they have sold more! The hugeness of the spice girls was NOT simply down to how many albums they sold or how many no 1's they had. It was for their personality and overall package. How do you work out that they 'walk all over them' when they've had less number ones, sell less albums & singles and make far less money from their records due to writing credits?
January 18, 200817 yr How do you work out that they 'walk all over them' when they've had less number ones, sell less albums & singles and make far less money from their records due to writing credits? Because they make SO MUCH MORE money from advert deals, sold out big tours and so on.
January 18, 200817 yr Because they make SO MUCH MORE money from advert deals, sold out big tours and so on. IS THAT MUSIC? NOOOOOOO.
January 18, 200817 yr Because they make SO MUCH MORE money from advert deals, sold out big tours and so on. So one of them are more succesful on one aspect and the other are more successful on another. Again, how does that make them 'WALK ALL OVER THEM'?!
January 18, 200817 yr hmm not being picky but a tour is :P Yeah but the rest isnt. Anyway in other news i'm booking my GA tickets tonight :heehee: They really are amaze on tour
January 18, 200817 yr Yeah but the rest isnt. Anyway in other news i'm booking my GA tickets tonight :heehee: They really are amaze on tour  I'd book my Sugababes tickets but I still can't make the Newcastle date at the moment
January 18, 200817 yr So one of them are more succesful on one aspect and the other are more successful on another. Again, how does that make them 'WALK ALL OVER THEM'?! I never said they walk over them. I tried to balance the speech of the t*** who said SB are FAR more successful.
January 18, 200817 yr Why has this turned into another GA vs. Sugababes debate? Can we keep things ON TOPIC thank you, this topic has absolutely nothing to do with Sugababes and I think most people are sick to their back teeth of this rowing between the two fanbases. -_- So Xmas Bertie and anyone else just drop the subject as of now please.
