Posted January 14, 200817 yr I think Shearer, i know they want Hguhes but i reckon everyone'll be happy with Shearer. Granted he doesnt have much experience, but neither did Keane when he took over Sunderland :D
January 14, 200817 yr In my opinion it's between: Alan Shearer & Kevin Keegan or Mark Hughes. I think the owner would prefer Mark Hughes, but the fans obviously want Shearer & Keegan and I don't think they'll be happy until he's manager.
January 14, 200817 yr LOL well Keane has hardly been a big success at Sunderland this season has he  Newcastle need an experienced manager, Shearer would need a year or more to learn the job, you can't have an apprentice taking the reins at a massive club they need to learn their trade in a lower division or smaller team first Hughes I don't see as Newcastle material too, Newcastle fans like free flowing attacking football whereas Hughes likes a team of thugs and grafters in midfield and so on, the fans would tire of Hughes If they can't get Redknapp they should go for Martin Jol, the amount of goals that Spurs scored over the last couple of seasons was phenomenal Edited January 14, 200817 yr by Vic Vega

They're relegation candidates at the moment in the Premier League, but most people expected them to be. Shearer's un-experienced yes, but wasn't Keegan when he went into the Newcastle job? Look how well he did. Klinsmann did excellent as Germany manager too, and now it's landed him a job at Bayern Munich. I don't see the point of Newcastle getting Hughes either as it'd just be Souness v.2 and I don't really see Newcastle progressing much under him tbh. I was watching SSN earlier and a North-East based agent wanted Jol as manager as he'd bring attacking football back to Newcastle, and if he was made manager within 4/5 years they'd be back in the Top6 clubs again, but I don't think their owner wants a non-British manager.
January 14, 200817 yr I dunno with Keane. Yes, he did a good job last season but he's spent £35m this season and the majority has been on a shower of $h!t! Edited January 14, 200817 yr by RabbitFurCoat
January 15, 200817 yr I dunno with Keane. Yes, he did a good job last season but he's spent £35m this season and the majority has been on a shower of $h!t! my thoughts exactly, Gordon hasn't been exactly outstanding this season, not exactly £8m+ standard. If Sunderland go down do they expect him to stay, I doubt it really, and that money could have been spent elsewhere then. And Etuhu, Higginbotham  What happened to the BIG names they were promising after they won the title. Kenwyne Jones is about the only beacon of light but he's likely to want to move on if the worse happens, and the only other glimmer (hard to judge until he plays more games for them) is Richardson.
January 15, 200817 yr Well, that's a good way to sum up the whole team based on one win over Portsmouth. Richardson has finally pulled the finger out at about the tenth time of asking but has shown no sign that he's willing to work. Agreed that Keano hasn't spent too wisely though...mind you, Gordon's poor start surprises me - he's been nothing short of amazing at national level. In regards to the original question - give Keegan another shot, he'd take it if offered.
January 16, 200817 yr In my opinion it's between: Alan Shearer & Kevin Keegan or Mark Hughes. I think the owner would prefer Mark Hughes, but the fans obviously want Shearer & Keegan and I don't think they'll be happy until he's manager. This fan wants Keegan! :w00t: Not because I know anything about football, but he was manager when I was growing up and I just think it would be great. ^_^
January 16, 200817 yr Author NEWS: Newcastle don't want me - Shearer Alan Shearer says Newcastle United do not want him as their next manager because he lacks experience. The ex-Newcastle captain says he has the skills for the job, but the club had told him they wanted a seasoned campaigner to succeed Sam Allardyce. "I got a call from the club to say they were looking for an experienced manager, which ruled me out," he said. "If you want someone to galvanise the dressing room, get them organised and playing then I think I could do that." French World Cup winner and former Juventus manager Didier Deschamps is the bookmakers' favourite for the job after his odds shortened dramatically on Tuesday evening. "I have had no official approach from Newcastle but I am flattered to be linked with such speculation," said the 39-year-old. If someone comes in and wants to talk to me, I would be willing to help in any way I can Ex-Liverpool and France manager Gerard Houllier and Blackburn boss Mark Hughes have also been linked with the role. Former Newcastle boss Keegan has also been mentioned in a possible "dream ticket" with Shearer as his number two. Shearer said he had yet to speak to Keegan about a possible return to St James' Park, but praised his managerial record during his five-year spell. "He is highly thought of in Newcastle and rightly so because of what he did for the club," he told the Sun. "Kevin did something special, he's a special person with special charisma." Shearer is a firm fans' favourite having scored 206 goals in 395 matches in a 10-year career with Newcastle and has not ruled out becoming a coach under an experienced manager. The 37-year-old former England captain said he was ready to offer his services. "If they want that and someone with experience then I'm not that man," he said. "People have talked about me being a number two under an experienced manager. "But if they are after an experienced manager, which they are, he will no doubt want his own man. "All I would say is that if someone comes in and wants to talk to me, I would be willing to help in any way I can."
January 16, 200817 yr Didier Deschamps has been made the current 'favourite' (until he says he's not interested I'll bet!)
January 22, 200817 yr In regards to the original question - give Keegan another shot, he'd take it if offered. Damn, wish I'd put money on this now.
