I really liked Prospekt... Viva la vida not so much. but they did say that this album is going to be something new and different so... Than again it really doesnt matter how will they call it, just as long as songs remain great.

Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends

For their fourth album, Coldplay enlisted producer Brian Eno to broaden their palette beyond the piano-heavy anthems the band is best known for: "Strawberry Swing" includes Afro-pop guitars, "42" is a three-part epic built on glitchy loops and "Yes!" mixes Middle Eastern percussion with Chris Martin's newfound deep-register vocals. "It's impossible to please everybody, and it took us a while to learn that," says Martin, adding that he credits Eno, who has made records with U2 and the Talking Heads, with helping the band leave its comfort zone. "You have to stop caring about what you're known for," says Martin. "So even if it's $h!t, at least it's brave.

Coldplay Indulges Experimentation On Fourth Album

Coldplay

April 11, 2008, 12:00 AM ET

Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

Coldplay lets its creative flag fly on its fourth studio album, "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends," due June 17 via Capitol. "We're still obsessed with making songs that can be sung to the rafters," frontman Chris Martin says. "We just wanted to present them differently."

To accomplish that goal, the group turned to co-producers Brian Eno and Markus Dravs, who adorn the material with grandiose embellishments the likes of which have never been heard before on a Coldplay album.

"Viva La Vida" begins with a strident instrumental, "Life in Technicolor," built as much on an arpeggiated synth foundation as it is on an acoustic guitar melody. The same instrumental is tacked onto the final song, "Death and All His Friends," as a hidden track dubbed "The Escapist."

In between, the band frequently breaks from verse-chorus-verse constructions, particularly on "42," which is comprised of three distinct, seemingly unrelated sections. "Yes" shifts from a string- and tabla-driven rocker into a shoegazer-y breakdown, while a funky groove emerges from out of nowhere in the middle of "Death and All His Friends."

Elsewhere, Martin and the piano are at the forefront of the shimmering "Reign of Love," while "Cemeteries of London" conjures a foreboding vibe apropos of its title and "Lost!" swells with massive-sounding church organ strains.

Drummer Will Champion credits Eno with upending Coldplay's usual working habits in the studio. "Brian has this amazing ability to demystify wonderful music and make it seem very achievable," he says. "We weren't afraid to try anything."

Coldplay recorded a number of other songs that did not wind up making the final track list, including "Postcards From Far Away," "Lukas," "Rainy Day," "The Goldrush" and "Now My Feet Won't Touch the Ground," but it's unknown if they will be released in some form down the road.

Here is the track list for "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends":

"Life in Technicolor"

"Cemeteries of London"

"Lost!"

"42"

"Lovers in Japan"/"Reign of Love"

"Yes"

"Viva La Vida"

"Violet Hill"

"Strawberry Swing"

"Death and All His Friends"

I love the album name, and I think the album name makes people more excited for the release. It shouldnt be too long before we hear the new single now then :D

Download Coldplay’s new single free

LONDON Coldplay have bowed to the trend for file-sharing by announcing that their new single will be given away today as a free download.

Violet Hill, the first single from their fourth album, Viva La Vida, will be made available on the band’s website from 12.15pm.

The group have also announced that some tickets for their concerts at Brixton Academy and Madison Square Garden will be free. The gesture is not entirely altruistic because the band has moved forward the album’s release to June 12 to reduce the chances of piracy between the UK and overseas.

Just heard it on Radio 1, everyone must be on the web site now as it won't load for me!

Loved the song though on the first listen.

Gotta say the single is really good. Is not your typical Coldplay track, and it's got a good buzz about it.

Is all about the album now though. ^_^

OMG I really Liked it is such a great song, I knew they wouldn't let me down. Bring IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!! The new Viva la Vida era has started :w00t: B)

I finally got my e-mail from the official site. But when I click the link it asks for a username and a password - neither of which were posted on the site or in my e-mail.

I'm annoyed. I loved the two albums and I want to hear the new song.

When I got my link I also got asked for a username and password at first. I then noticed that the link in the email was highlighted but had missed off a few letters at the end so maybe the same has happened to you. Just copy and paste the full link in, you don't need a username or password.
