From ESC Today:

esctoday.com has received official confirmation that the United Kingdom will decide on their 2008 Eurovision Song Contest entry on 1st March. The format is in the final stages of agreement, and no further details have been revealed at this time.

The BBC confirmed to esctoday.com that there will be a national final for the United Kingdom, and it will take place on Saturday 1st March.

The United Kingdom has used the Making Your Mind Up format for the last 5 years, and it is yet to be confirmed whether the title of the show or format will be used once again in 2008. The producer of the United Kingdom final in recent years, and Eurovision Song Contest fan, Dominic Smith will not be involved in the show this year due to commitments to another BBC project. The show is in safe hands with the role of Executive Producer taken up by Phil Parsons and Producer will be fellow Eurovision Song Contest fan, Helen Tumbridge.

Last year, the show made the headlines when presenters Terry Wogan and Fern Cotton announced different winners of the competition. Fern correctly announced Scooch as winners, whilst Terry Wogan announced that Cyndi had won the national televote. In true Eurovision fashion, confusion reigned until Terry and Fern announced that it was indeed Scooch that had won the British ticket to Helsinki.

Stay tuned to esctoday.com for more information regarding the United Kingdom national final over the coming weeks.

I wonder if anyone else spotted the two mistakes in the article.

I can't see any? ESC Today articles are often quite poorly written though tbh... Great site though!

Fearne's name is spelt wrong...I can't see another mistake

Apart from Fearne's name I can't see any other mistake.

Am I missing something

They've only used the "Making Your Mind Up" format for 4 years.

Woo! I win! :D

were never going to win, what is the point in people wasting their time?

You won't mind not coming into the Eurovision forum and posting, and wasting your time in future then, will you?

lol, I'll probz still watch the show coz havlf of the time they are good song. Javine - Touch My Fire was a great song as where many others. the last 2 years UK songs have been trash though.

In 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007, yep you're right Peter

For some reason I thought they had used it in 2003 when Jemini got Nul Points but then I remembered that it was the whole purpose of them changing the format in the first place. And haven't we done well since: 16th, 3rd to last, 19th and 2nd to last...

Perhaps we should go down a semi-final/wildcard route like other countries in future years...or even have an X Factor style comp where we knock out one performer a week and the victor goes to Eurovision

or even have an X Factor style comp where we knock out one performer a week and the victor goes to Eurovision

Now that's a good idea

Or go down the 80s route, where 8 acts are in the final stages, where it will give more diverse music to filter through, and voting done by regionals and no televoting.

It's a pain that we only get to choose from 6 songs, and only have one short show to choose it...compared to the mass amount of airtime other countries give to selecting their entry...

I'm assuming you're making this statement because we haven't won because we've sent dross since 2003? -_-

Here in two words is our contribution to Eurovision this decade year by year:

2000: old bag

2001: unnecessary rap

2002: amazing voice

2003: off key

2004: bland singer

2005: home wrecker

2006: national joke

2007: comedy act

Though the only song I actually disliked from this decade was James Fox in 2004...Nicki French's song was passable, Javine's was average and the others were all good but overly cheesy apart from Jessica Garlick who was classy
