Hollywood stars face spin king

January 16, 2008 06:38am

SCREEN superstar Jude Law and pop prince Robbie Williams will be among the high-profile celebrities pulling on the pads at the Australia versus England Hollywood Ashes on Sunday.

The British pin-ups have agreed to play for England in the inaugural 20-20 cricket match in Los Angeles and will compete against an Australian team which will include retired legends Shane Warne and Steve Waugh.

The game is part of the annual G'day USA event, a two-week tourism push to promote Australia in the US.

I wish that could be true..I love cricket and especially the 20 x 20..great fun.

Somehow I can't see Robbie doing it, although he could surprise me, he said he hates cricket.

I'd love to go to any 20 x 20 match, although its pretty much over before its began, the 50 over game is great too. I'd go even if there wasn't a celeb in sight.

It's strange there has been no mention of this cricket match anywhere else. My immediate reaction was that maybe they meant Robin Williams. But then Robin is hardly likely to be playing for England.
How odd indeed. And it comes from Australia, strange how it would'nt have been mentioned elsewhere. Although I supose it is possible, but Rob has said he hates Cricket did'nt he?

I have an image of him standing at the crease (or whatever it's called) wearing his bobble hat, sunglasses and orange puffa jacket. Smoking a fag or ten.
I thought Robbie hated cricket

Am just gonna say, Jude Law + Robbie Williams = Heaven

He could wear the white trousers from his Radio video.

But then those cricket people rub balls on their trousers (so to speak -_- ) and I wouldn't want his good Radio trousers to get all stained.

Another report. Still doubt he'll turn up though. -_-

Playing for Australia at this G’day USA event are legendary Steve Waugh and Mike Whitney. Robert Key and Simon Jones will turn out for England. Both teams will comprise celebrities, cricket legends, and local players.

Daily Telegraph reported that superstar Jude Law, who is known to enjoy a game of cricket, and singer Robbie Williams will be among the celebrities padding up for the Twenty20 match. The newspaper also reported that Shane Warne will be there.

You too can watch the Hollywood Ashes between 12PM and 6PM Pacific Time at Los Angeles’ Woodley Park on Sunday, January 20, 2008. Entry is free. Bring your own lunch or enjoy some of the great food from the onsite vendors.

Yes :o They're always rubbing balls.

Anyway, I don't know a thing about cricket. It's a real minority sport in Scotland. But I see clips of it on telly and it looks totally

(Sorry for offending all cricket lovers :P )

FORGET Gladiator. Russell Crowe will pad up for the Colosseum clash of his life tomorrow after agreeing to captain a cricket match against old enemy the Poms in Los Angeles.

Crowe is tipped to be joined in the celebrity assault on the English team - billed as the "battle for the Hollywood Ashes" - by Mel Gibson.

They will have back-up from former Test greats Steve Waugh and Mike Whitney, who have also donated their services as part of the G'day USA program promoting Australia.

At a Paramount Studios preview of Australian short films last night, the rumour mill was in overdrive with suggestions that Sir Mick Jagger and Robbie Williams might pad up for the Old Dart.

But Jude Law, who had agreed to face Crowe as opposing captain, has "walked", confirmed as a scratching.

The Brits were keeping their line-up under close cover, admitting only that quick Simon Jones and Test batsman Robert Key would take to the pitch at Woodley Playing Fields in San Fernando Valley.

yay - I love 20/20 cricket :yahoo:
