Really not surprised. I saw her supporting Will Young at the Union Chapel Little Noise Gig & although her personality is a breath of fresh air & she has a distinctive voice I found every song blended into the last. Was bored by the end of her 30 minute set. The record label have definitely chosen the best track for lead single.

No I'm not surprised either. Even Chasing Pavements is a pretty bad song, and dreary beyond belief. At least I won't be wasting any of my money on the album now. :kink:

She'll probably struggle once the hype has died down, and then maybe people will realise Duffy is 1000x better. ^_^

I think there is an Adele backlash at the moment which is odd as she hasn't released anything until this week...she has been well and truly overhyped and is less liked by many people as a result

I will buy both Adele and Duffy's albums but I don't have any idea what either of them will be like :o I like Chasing Pavements and Hometown Glory but Rockferry and Mercy are brilliant in a completely different way

Oh dear, this doesn't sound too good for her, judging by the reviews on here, I shall not bother
who's duffy?

I took a chance and downloaded the album from iTunes.

I loved hometown Glory before I'd heard anything else, although I prefer when it was called Breathe Me, and was sung by Sia

Chasing Pavements is good - I don't listen to the radio, so it's not been overplayed for my ears!

The only other song I love so far though is Cold Shoulder - the rest of the album leaves me really quite bored.

Shame, as I think she had a lot of promise.

Maybe it will grow on me?

I heard this album in full today and it was slightly better than I expected, there were some tracks which I thought were a bit better than the toe-curlingly awful 'Chasing Pavements'. Still, it's all a load of hype with very little substance and I'd only ever use such an album as a drinks coaster.

I downloaded it, four tracks in her voice was already grating on me. It has a nice tone but so annoying to listen to so many songs in a row of it. Secondly, it's dull as. All the songs blend into each other so they become one big bore. Thirdly, it definitely is obvious why they picked 'Chasing Pavements', because it is the strongest song on the album by far. I predict she's going to struggle picking singles from now, it's like picking $h!t from $h!t tbh.

The albums lowlight of 2008 so far. :(

I told you Dan. :heehee:

Good Tracks:

Hometown Glory

Cold Shoulder

OK tracks:

Chasing Pavments

$h!t tracks:

Everything else

I've been listening to the album most of the day actually - in between lectures at least.

After about 10 full listens I'd say that I love

Tired

Make You Feel My Love

Hometown Glory

Chasing Pavements

Cold Shoulder

But would skip everything else if it came on random shuffle on iTunes.

That's exactly what I thought. Breathe Me is so amazing though and Hometown Glory is just dry cakes.

The only song that I'd be interested in hearing is the Mark Ronson one, Cold Shoulder, but even that sounds pretty average from the preview.

Really not surprised. I saw her supporting Will Young at the Union Chapel Little Noise Gig & although her personality is a breath of fresh air & she has a distinctive voice I found every song blended into the last.

did her set also blend into Will Young's - esp any songs written by the brother beyond bloke

Good album, but '21' is an exceptional album, she really matured in sound, love how well this album is doing now as well! Huge sales, and even in US (#13 on iTunes and #68 on Billboard Chart, surely to climb - climbed 20 places last week!) #4 in UK! :D

Ive just listened to this album for the first time in full in years!

Its a really good debut but she really evolved and just got better with 21 and 25.

The early comments in this thread are quite funny to read when you see the icon she is now

There was really only a 2 page thread for this album :deadbanana:

(and omg at how overwhelmingly negative it is, little did y'all know)
