May 21, 200619 yr Author In Germany 10,5 Mio watched Eurovision. That's the most watched show of May yet. I've read that the European rating has been 110 mio this year. 110m's not bad, when the Australian ratings have been added on and recordings and stuff have been taken into account it should go up a bit more too. :)
May 21, 200619 yr Superb stuff! All this rubbish about no one bothering with the Eurovision is complete rubbish then. I know of people that went to Eurovision Parties!!! How mad would that be :) Si
May 22, 200619 yr Author From Media Guardian Prince loses out to Lordi John Plunkett Monday May 22, 2006 http://image.guardian.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/pictures/2006/05/21/lordi128ready.jpg Eurovision Song Contest: the show's average of 8.2 million was 300,000 up on last year. Photograph: AFP A Finnish rock horror band dressed as orcs helped BBC1's Eurovision Song Contest beat ITV1's Prince's Trust 30th Birthday in the big live music ratings battle. The annual European celebration of bad outfits and even worse songs, hosted as ever by Terry Wogan, was watched by 8.2 million viewers, a 37% share of the audience, according to unofficial overnight figures. The UK's entrant, rapper Daz Sampson, came 19th out of 24 but Saturday night's show still beat ITV's own musical offering, a live concert marking the 30th anniversary of the Prince's Trust. The concert from Tower Bridge featuring the likes of Annie Lennox, Will Young, the Sugababes and the two surviving members of the Bee Gees averaged 5.1 million, just under a quarter of the audience from 6.55pm. The Eurovision Song Contest peaked at 10.30pm with 10.6 million, just over half the watching TV audience as Finnish rock band Lordi were crowned Eurovision kings. The show's average of 8.2 million was 300,000 up on last year's 7.9 million, but 100,000 lower than the 8.3 million who watched in 2004. Earlier, more than 6 million viewers watch members of the Fathers 4 Justice campaign raid the set of BBC1's national lottery draw. National Lottery Draws - Jet Set averaged 5.3 million, peaking with 6.2 million as viewers switched over to watch the Lotto draw and the beginning of the Eurovision Song Contest. BBC2's The Culture Show returned for a new series at 8.10pm with 500,000 viewers, just under a 3% share. It lost out to Channel 4 documentary The Da Vinci Detective, which had 1.5 million viewers. The Culture Show followed BBC2's Young Musician of the Year, which ran for nearly three hours from 5.20pm and averaged 1 million viewers. It predictably lost out to Channel 4's Deal or No Deal, with 3.4 million, but just edged Channel Five's Eddie Murphy movie Holy Man, which averaged 900,000. ITV's Big Fight Live featuring Amir Khan's win over Laszlo Komjathi peaked with 3.4 million viewers, a 20% share at 11pm. It lost out to the BBC News, which enjoyed a big inheritance from the Eurovision Song Contest and averaged 5.1 million viewers at 11pm, but beat Channel 4's Steven Seagal film Exit Wounds, with 1.6 million.
May 22, 200619 yr :o The Prince's Trust Concert beaten by the Lottery Jet Set programme. That's terrible but not surprising on reflection - so was the beginning of the PT show, very off putting.

May 24, 200619 yr Author From ESC Today: Better ratings EBU: 6,4 million televotes semifinal and final Positive audience ratings were recorded for the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest. The European Broadcasting Union just reported that. The two shows were broadcast live over the Eurovision network in over 40 countries across Europe and in Australia, where viewers watched Finland's Lordi win the 51st Eurovision Song Contest. This year, the number of viewers for the semifinal were 35% higher than in 2005 and for the final, were up by 28%. On the night of the final, the market shares of the 37 broadcasters taking part in the Contest in Athens were over 30% higher than the regular Saturday night primetime averages recorded by broadcasters for 2005. In France, average market shares reached 30,3%, up by 8% over last year's figure. Other countries that showed a rise in average market shares, include Germany with 38,7% (up from 29,8%), UK with 37,5% (up from 36,9%), Spain with 36% (up from 35,5%), Ireland with 58,3 % (up from 35,3%) and Sweden, which reached over 80% compared to 57,8% in 2005. "As the figures show, millions of European viewers tune in to this unique event year after year, perhaps because the Eurovision Song Contest is a symbol of open-mindedness, as all participating countries are equal on the event's stage", said Svante Stockselius, EBU executive supervisor for the Eurovision Song Contest. The official website eurovision.tv continues to be one of the world's most popular entertainment websites. Eurovision.tv received visits from over 200 countries, registered over 4,2 million on-demand streams (1,1 million more than in 2005) and more than 98 million page views, compared with 85 million in 2005. Over 6,4 million calls and SMS votes were recorded during the 10-minute voting windows at the end of the shows, an increase of 23% compared to last year. Viewers from 38 countries across Europe were able to elect the winning song via the pan-European centralized televoting system, which was coordinated and especially developed for the contest by digame.de, an affiliate of Deutsche Telekom.
