Posted February 6, 200817 yr A first download million seller shifting between 40-90k a week for 18 weeks? Is that a real possibility? Discuss! With Rihanna’s sales last year dipping as low as 27k-23k-22k in weeks 8-10 I’d say there is real potential for a massive mainstream crossover breaking through and destroying Bryan Adams record for most consecutive weeks at No1 if not Frankie Laine’s non-consecutive record… Obviously it would have to be a record that captures a lot of people but don’t they often come at the end of decades?
February 6, 200817 yr With my luck, it'll be a song I can't stand... :) Seriously though, downloads are gradually raising sales levels, even towards the upper regions of the charts, so I think that there will be fewer #1's on very low sales figures. Last week, the top 3 all sold 30k plus, and none of them were on their first chart week, even with this being a traditionally quiet time of year for singles sales.
February 6, 200817 yr Most million sellers are appalling awful novelty records  I'm not sure. I think a song could in coming years break the record but it won't sell half as much as what Wet Wet Wet or Bryan Adams sold.
February 6, 200817 yr yeh i think so, i think gradually the gov r destroyin illegal downloads, i find it harder last year than say 2005, and now, i download all my tracks on iTunes unless its not released on there. I dont mind payin 79p for a song i like, as apposed to £1.99-£3.99 for a CD that has a poop bside and a boring remix. Although i do buy CDs of long-running artisits i support (Spice Girls, Mel B, Mel C, Emma, Rachel Stevens - although that was a while ago!)

Though i worked out how to work itunes in late 2006 and now i more download. I think if its a song i like but i have no connection with the artist, then i download, but if i love the artist then i buy the cd, and if i'm a massive fan, i'll buy the 2 track and the maxi cd, download all possible versions seperetly on itunes and on hmv and woolworths download sites - (I only did this last year with Girls Aloud and Darren Hayes, and i'll be doing that this year with them as well as Delta Goodrem as well)
February 6, 200817 yr yeh i think so, i think gradually the gov r destroyin illegal downloads, i find it harder last year than say 2005, and now, i download all my tracks on iTunes unless its not released on there. Same with me. I dont mind payin 79p for a song i like, as apposed to £1.99-£3.99 for a CD that has a poop bside and a boring remix. Which is the same reason I download songs as well. Although i do buy CDs of long-running artisits i support (Spice Girls, Mel B, Mel C, Emma, Rachel Stevens - although that was a while ago!) But I can't do that - the Woolies in Preston doesn't stock singles anymore (well, they do, but only a handful, and the "newest" one was released in December) and I don't really fancy spending my lunch break trying to find somewhere that stocks singles.
February 9, 200817 yr Nope, even with downloads being the norm now, I honestly can NEVER see Bryan Adams or indeed Wet Wet Wet's sensational UK chart records EVER being broken. Anyone wanna bet me a gold disc on it? :D
