Manchester United winning the European Cup in 1999, no doubt about it! It's a moment I'll never forget and I'm not anything will ever top it! :cheer:

Out of the ones avaliable then it's got to be England winning the World Cup.

But memorable ones that I can remember for me:

2005 - Ashes win

2005 - Liverpool European Cup win

2001 - Germany 1-5 England

2003 - England Rugby World Cup win

Out of the list England winning the World Cup Final in 1966 just beats the Ian Botham's 1981 Ashes 3rd Test at Headingly.

But there are some bizarre omissions where are:

Rumble In The Jungle (Ali v Foreman 1974)

England winning the 2003 Rugby World Cup thanks to Jonny Wilkinson's drop kick

Steve Redgrave's record breaking 5th Olympic gold medal

Borg and McEnroe's epic Wimbledon tie break

Brazil's 1970 World Cup winning final v Italy

Matt Busby's Manchester Utd win the European Cup in 1968 10 years after Munich (a far greater achievement and a much better match than the 1999 EC Final)

Dennis Taylor and Steve Davis's Black Ball finish

Coe v Ovett (1980 Moscow Olympics)

Lance Armstrong beats cancer to win 1999 Tour de France

Bob Beamon's leap in the Long Jump at the 1968 Mexico Olympics

Torvill and Dean's Bolero (and set of perfect 6.0s)

I actually remembered some of them but only after i made the poll  Is there any way to edit a poll?

I'd ditch Owens and change this to the greatest English sporting moment of all time as that's basically what it is.

Man Utd winning the European Cup in 1999 was pretty ordinary compared to worldwide sporting great moments...as was England winning the world cup at their home ground. As for the 2003 Rugby World Cup? Jesus....

scotland beating france in paris and in glasgow. i know its not a competition winner but for me its great because nobody expected us to do it.

the underdog had its day twice :P

It wasn't JUST about the European Cup though, it was the fact that we were the first and still ONLY English team to win the treble at the time of writing and the way we managed to win it too! No one but Manchester United can it that way, that's what made it brilliant.

England winning the 2003 Rugby World Cup thanks to Jonny Wilkinson's drop kick

Steve Redgrave's record breaking 5th Olympic gold medal

Why does everyone rave about Beefy at Headingley ? Bob Willis getting 8 wickets in the 2nd innings of Australia and Graham Dilley's 50 backing up Beefy were as significant if not more

For me it has to be Desert Orchid winning the Cheltenham Gold Cup followed by Jacques Villeneuve winning the Indy 500 from 2 laps down

Nottingham Forest's back-to-back European Cup (now Champ's League) wins of almost 30 years ago!

what a strange nomination... you werent even born then!

steve redgraves 5th consecutive gold olympic medal...

daley thompson winning decathelon in the 1980 and 1984 olympics, that was some feat for 1 man alone over 2 days and 10 diciplines.

a good list... i think that a truely great sporting moment is one that captures and captivates an audience of 'non sports' fans, or people that dont usually view that sport.

torvill and dean, bjorg and mc enroe, taylor vs davies, redgrave.... are prime examples.

But as a Forest fan I know a lot about it.

And just because I wasn't born doesn't mean something wasn't a great sporting achievement!

Surprised no one mentioned Allan Wells winning 100m gold

Bit before my time but a white guy winning gold in what is essentially a black guy's sport is one hell of an achievement
