Posted February 13, 200817 yr Concert to raise money in memory of Sambora's father The guys of Bon Jovi are standing up in the fight against lung cancer, and they're doing it in the memory of longtime Woodbridge resident Adam Sambora, guitarist Richie Sambora's late father. The Stand Up For A Cure concert takes place tonight at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. "Lung cancer doesn't discriminate between us, it affects smokers and nonsmokers, men, women and children," said Richie Sambora on the Stand Up For Cure Web site, www.sufac.org. "It's the No. 1 cancer that's the cause of death in the United States, and it remains the most underfunded." Lung cancer research at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center will receive proceeds from the Stand Up For A Cure 2008 Concert Series, which also includes shows by Andrea Bocelli, Jerry Seinfeld and Brian Wilson. Adam Sambora, 70, died of cancer last April. He received care from Memorial Sloan-Kettering. "Our goal is to cure lung cancer. The only way we can do that is through research to discover treatments to conquer it once and for all," said Mark Kris, chief of the Thoracic Oncology Service at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. "We applaud Stand Up For A Cure for making lung cancer research a priority and helping us get one step closer to our goal." http://www.thnt.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008802120398
