Kenzie from Blazin' Squad. :P That was who the Arctics were mainly taking the p*** out of, as well as most of the BRITs school graduates.

I thought they'd just picked the name out of the blue (certain they said 'Harry McKenzie' too) didn't know they were referring to this kid. I didn't even know he went to the Brits school! Not a very good school is it?

They all went apparently. And yes it was a direct reference to Blazin' Squad. :P I didn't pick it up when I was watching it, but the fact Nick said "see you at the crossroads" was the icing on the cake.

I'm going to buy FWN tomorrow (although I think I'm too old to listen to their stuff). I've got a HMV voucher that I was going to use for Take That's Tour Vid - but as it was cheaper in Tesco's I got that from there!

Oh good. ^_^ It's a good album. Not as memorable as the 1st album, but the 2nd album had much more diversity to it as a whole album. I hope you tell us all what you think of it. :w00t:

I actually think the second one is better than the first one personally! Though I think the first one will obviously be more significant in ten years time because of the impact it made on the music industry and the fans who bought the album, for example I think it sums up the whole teenage life, going out and getting drunk for people these days etc. a hell of a lot more than any other album and because of that I just don't want to hear another one from all these watered down pop versions anymore <_< But when they made their second album they moved on with their sound and Alex moved on with is lyrics as his life had changed so he wrote about different things unlike many bands who just do the same thing again! Which just doesn't work really!

I've not actually heard (rather - I have heard - but not listened) their first album so I can't comment. FWN - I have only listened to the first four songs (coming back from town centre to home today - I usually only listen to music in the car - good job I like driving). I've got to say - I do like what I've heard (although I think I'm far too old to listen to stuff like this). I appreciate the words are clever and witty - but words to me in a song are secondary - its the music that matters - and the music is pretty good. Storming bass & drums (if a little samey on the first four ones I've listened to) - but there's nothing wrong with that - today's [c]rap / r&b (rubbish & bollocks) gets away with blasted repetativeness all the bloody time - so why not at least something fresh with a bit of energy in it.

I'll come back with an in-depth review when I've heard the rest of it while picking up m'laddo from school later.

I must say - I think the Arctic Monkeys themselves would be horrified that a Take That fan such as myself has actually taken the time out to buy and listen (and like so far!) their stuff    !

I'm glad you like so far. ^_^ I'd say the 1st 4 songs are probably the songs (to the tune anyway) that are most likely representatives of the 1st album, compared to the other songs anyway. I hope you like the rest of the album. ^_^ I must say as an Arctic Monkeys fan too it took a while for the album to grow on me! I was not pleased with it at first when I heard it. :(

I am now up to, and including, If You Were There, Beware. I'll listen to the rest of the cd dropping the lad off at school tomorrow. I was surprised that he didn't switch it off (he's got a thing for the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour at the moment and keeps insisting I let him listen to I Am The Walrus).

So far I must admit my fave is Fluorescent Adolescent although I can't help liking Brianstorm (I have to admit though - I liked that one the first time I heard it even before I'd spent money on them!)

Now all they've got to do is learn some dance moves and a bit of pole-dancing like Take That and I may go and watch them in concert!

Just wait till you've heard the album a few more times. :w00t: If you like it now, i'm sure you'll grow to love it. ^_^ Fluorescent Adolescent is my joint favourite track on the album along with 505. ^_^

Totally off-track - but when that earthquake happened last night - I was actually dreaming of the Arctic Monkeys! Random I know ... but true!

Really? :o For me it was one of the most instant albums ever  I remember the week I got it most of the play count for the tracks were in the 30s

For me it's always a mix of the music and the lyrics that get me i.e. a good song can be ruined by bad lyrics or song with bad lyrics can still be good with a good tune (to an extent) but for me it was their lyrics that really got me into Arctic Monkeys! The first demos I got were Fake Tales Of San Francisco and A Certain Romance and I didn't think much of FTOSF but the brilliant wit demonstrated in A Certain Romance is what made me want to find out more about them! I also remember my girlfriend at the time laughed at their name

I remember I downloaded it when it leaked. I firstly downloaded Balaclava, 505 & IFYT,B. Loved 505, wasn't so keen on the other two. Then when it leaked in full I downloaded it - and I was keen so I deleted it and waited for the full album. Then when it finally came after a good 3/4 listens I was totally loving it! ^_^ I didn't think they could ever even match the first album, but with FWN they really did. I don't think it's as many actual stand-out tracks, but on the whole I think it's a more solid album. Better production, vocals, bass, guitar etc. it all sounds much more polished. ^_^ Obviously a large factor is due to the amount of exposure they recieved si they were allowed a bigger budget, but there's just something special on the 2nd album that the 1st doesn't have. Is probably the fact that lyrics are based on more topics rather than the weekend!

Well I've listened to it all now (several times). Got to say - the only ones I've repeatedly played (more so than the 'several times') are Brianstorm, Teddy Picker and Fluorescent Adolescent. I do like it, and I appreciate the lyrics are fresh and 'vibrant'. Musically however, although a whole lot better than a pile of stuff in the charts today, it still isn't really 'new'. Still - I do like driving along with my windows wide open - annoying the hell out of people by playing it dead loud!   It is my way of getting back at those annoying gits playing loud [c]rap music in their 'souped-up' Corsas, Novas and Golfs!

I still think BW was worthy of best album .... but if anyone was going to beat them at the Brits in this category - I'm glad it was the Monkeys (and by all accounts - there were just a handful of votes in it).

You should definitely listen to it more - some of the songs are very good but they do take a while to grow on you I shall admit. Do Me A Favour is not the best track they've ever done, but it's SO powerful lyrically. And 505 is so good. Is easily one of the best things they've done, but it seems to be a love it or hate it track.

After what you'd said in an earlier post - I was especially listening out for 505 - and to be honest - I've really not made my mind up on this one. Going to have to give it another airing tomorrow. For now though ... Brianstorm is going to take a hell of a lot of beating for me.

I think FA is by far and away the stand out track in general. I'm sure most people would say that's their favourite track, it's my joint-favourite. I must admit though, the best time to listen to 505 is when the sun is setting or at night. Well, it is for me personally. ^_^

Fluorescent Adolescent is the one that I most remember the words from they are rather clever .... but the beat to Brianstorm is just too irresistable!

How about visiting the Take That forum - if only to say how c**p we are! It'll build our post-count up!

I've got BW. I don't think much to it if i'm honest bar about 3 songs. :( But I can see why they're v.popular. Is just the big ballady songs don't really appeal to me that much.

Which 3 songs? My faves are ones that haven't even been released as singles! I dare you to enter the Take That forum ... or would it mean you losing your coolness?

Seriously ... you have to see them live to appreciate them to the full! They give 110% to their fans. Was reading that Take That and Alex Turner were at the same after-Brits party! I bet Gary and Alex were chatting about football and all 'manly' things!
