I'm trying to find the lyrics in full but can't . That vid is bad quality sound wise, I'll find a better one.

Can EVERYONE please but this off iTunes...it is for a very good cause & the reason why Bono & The Edge came up with the idea in the first place .......while it is nice to get it for free all funds to Cancer Research are badly needed.....

PLEASE BUY

Stars line up to sing the praises of Dubliners legend Ronnie

By Patricia McDonagh

Saturday February 23 2008

HE has the "greatest voice in the world" and led a folk band that now makes "Nirvana look like girls".

Praise indeed from the leader of the world's top rock band, Bono, for Dublin's greatest trouper Ronnie Drew, the once bearded supremo of Irish music who watched as his peers in the industry paid homage to him and his legacy last night.

A firmament of stars, including Andrea Corr, Shane MacGowan, Sinead O'Connor and U2 took to the stage on the Late Late Show to sing their hearts out in a one-off performance.

Dressed in a sober black suit, with a red patterned scarf around his neck, the beloved founder of the Dubliners said the performance was "great" and "magnificent".

"I'm speechless. I am really knocked out and honoured and grateful. I don't think I deserve it" he told Pat Kenny.

Mr Drew, who has just finished his latest bout of treatment for throat cancer at St Vincent's Hospital, Dublin, said that ever since the song was written he feels stronger.

"I feel stronger and my hair is even growing back," he joked.

The song, entitled 'The Ballad of Ronnie Drew' was composed by Robert Hunter, Bono, The Edge and Simon Carmody and was recorded at Windmill Lane on January 14 and 15.

Wearing his trademark wraparound tinted sunglasses, U2 frontman Bono paid tribute to the "most powerful male voice in the world".

"He is a prime fighter and a fighter always fights harder when the crowd is cheering. That is why we did this," said the rock legend.

'The Ballad of Ronnie Drew' is due to be released in March.

Here's To Ronnie Drew... No.1 in Ireland.

'The Ballad Of Ronnie Drew'' has hit the top of the Irish charts. And we've got a cool new video of Edge in the studio during recording.

Appropriately enough the song hits the No.1 spot on 'Daffodil Day', when people in Ireland are showing support for those living with cancer. Profits from the single go to the Irish Cancer Society.

'The Ballad of Ronnie Drew', performed by U2, Kila, The Dubliners and assorted Bowsies also features Glen Hansard of The Frames. And Glen's Oscar winning performance of 'Falling Slowly' with Marketa Irglova, is right behind the Drew tribute at No.2 in the Irish charts

Folk musician hero Ronnie Drew dies

Ronnie Drew, the legendary Irish folk singer and musician, has died, his family said.

The 73-year-old founder of The Dubliners had been battling ill health for some time.

In a brief statement, his family confirmed he passed away at St Vincent's Private Hospital in Dublin at 2pm.

Drew founded the then-Ronnie Drew Group in 1962 which later came to be known as The Dubliners.

The group included fellow Irish music legends Luke Kelly, Ciaran Bourke and Barney McKenna.

They emerged from back room sessions in the O'Donoghues Pub in central Dublin to become world-renowned.

While Kelly was known for singing their soulful ballads, Drew will be best remembered for his gravelly-voiced renditions of rabble-rousing folk songs, like Finnegan's Wake and Dicey Reilly.

Earlier this year, U2, Sinead O'Connor, Shane McGowan, Christy Moore and others came together to record a tribute to the singer, called The Ballad Of Ronnie Drew.

All profits from the release of the single went to the Irish Cancer Society.

Speaking at the time of the recording, U2 frontman Bono said: "Ronnie is like the King of Ireland, and we are his subjects. This is a big fight for him. But like any fighter, it's easier if there's a crowd cheering."

It is so sad. I thought he was getting better but obviously not  Bono was spot on when he called Ronnie 'The King Of Ireland'. He was such a legend. Bono's tribute was very well put. R.I.P Ronnie Drew.

"Weddings, funerals, bar mitzvahs... that's what I loved about Ronnie Drew's voice and spirit. Music to inspire, to console... an optimism that was contagious... that's what U2 took from The Dubliners. Ronnie has left his earthly tour for one of the heavens... they need him up there... it's a little too quiet and pious. God is lonely for a voice louder than His own... then the bad weather will break..."
