Posted May 22, 200619 yr I don't hold out that much hope for the single (even though I hear it's doing well on the TV airplay chart) but if the single has even a OK chart run, 'Emancipation Of Mimi' will become Mariah's biggest hitmaker on the singles chart EVER in the UK. The 4 'Music Box' singles managed a combined 49 weeks on the singles chart while the 4 'Daydream' singles ma naged 38. 'Mimi' is currently on 44 and none of the singles look poised to re-enter the chart. Can Mariah break her UK record? And how well do you think the new single will do? Is it going to appeal to new fans and stick around forever? Or will it be a new 'Never Too Far'? Edited May 23, 200619 yr by Tim
May 22, 200619 yr I'm thinking 3 weeks maximum unfortunately. :( We Belong Together occasionally dips in and out of the chart, but still I agree I don't see it re-entering anytime soon. -_- I think she will gain a few urban fans who aren't keen on the balladry, but not going to stick around forever. But yeah I know first hand it is getting a lot of video play at the moment, which is a good sign heading into the release. :D
May 22, 200619 yr Author PS The full list of Mariah's most succesful hit-making albums is on the pinned 'Chart Runs' thread
May 23, 200619 yr Very difficult to call. Assuming that this is the last single from Mimi, I would say not long. Sustained interest in a single is rare considering that most fans will have the album. -_-
May 23, 200619 yr I definately think So Lonely should have been released, the fans that have the original Mimi won't need to buy the album again, whereas if So Lonely were released, they would be inclined to buy it again. -_-

And would have done more for the album sales - the 'Ultra Platinum' re-release got a bit lost in the UK. At least the die-hard fans were able to enjoy the new songs. On the bright side, 'Say Somethin" is climbing the download chart (128-99). I know that position does not sound amazing but it's a start. I think the song will have 4-6 weeks on the singles chart. It will be exciting (for me, at least) to see whether the 'Mimi' singles spend longer on the chart than the 'Music Box' ones. It's going to be close. Edited May 23, 200619 yr by Tim
May 23, 200619 yr I hope the singles do outlast that of Music Box, it shows that Mariah is at the top of her game so to speak. :D Great climb in the download chart! Mariah is doing well on the airplay chart and video airplay too! :D

May 31, 200619 yr IMO 'Music Box' is a far superior album to MIMI so I hope that it doesnt. I have a feeling the single will enter low top 20 and spend about 4-5 weeks in total as she tends to fall quite quickly (look at DFAU)
May 31, 200619 yr I prefer Mimi to Music Box, apart from the singles I find it rather samey.

I have a feeling the single will enter low top 20 and spend about 4-5 weeks in total as she tends to fall quite quickly (look at DFAU) That managed seven weeks - not too bad - but the chart slows down around Christmas time. If it was released in a different month, the song might have gone top ten but could have had an even shorter run :( . I prefer Mimi to Music Box, apart from the singles I find it rather samey. I can see why. It's all Walter Ass-sniff (sorry I can't spell his name properly) so they can sound a bit similar. Apart from 'Everything Fades Away' anyway, which is such a bizarre song. Mariah does a gothic ballad? Eep!
May 31, 200619 yr I can't understand why everyone loves that track, it's a UK bonus track isn't it?
June 1, 200619 yr Author I can't understand why everyone loves that track, it's a UK bonus track isn't it? I believe all of Europe got it. I think it's about suicide. I like it because it's so bizarre. You can't accuse Mariah of being predictable when she puts songs like that on the end of her most mainstream album.
June 27, 200619 yr Author Let's see how we all did I'm thinking 3 weeks maximum unfortunately. :( The only incorrect answer. You should have been vague like the rest of us. I would say not long. Sadly you were right. I think the song will have 4-6 weeks on the singles chart. i voted 2-5 weeks The length of its chart run was within these bounds I have a feeling the single will enter low top 20 and spend about 4-5 weeks in total as she tends to fall quite quickly (look at DFAU) Graham's the winner as his was the least vague of the correct answers. The single has spent 4 weeks on and is unlikely to increase its tally (and even if it has an extra week on, Graham's still right). Edited June 27, 200619 yr by Tim
