Posted March 4, 200818 yr It's an old interview from last year, but it's very interesting. She talks about her hair care range, her greatest hits and other stuff such as her first kiss and the weirdest gift a fan had given to her. Hi Jamelia! Did you have a good summer? Well not really, keeps bloody raining! I'd have preferred some sun [laughs]. No it's all right, I've been on holiday twice in the last couple of weeks anyway so I can't complain. Ooh nice, where'd you go? I went to Marrakech for a week and Spain for two days. Tell me about the greatest hits CD… Well the it's a collection of all my singles. I've been in the industry for ten years now which has been amazing. So it's really a celebration of all my work so far! Do you find it scary bringing out a greatest hits album when you are still so young? It does make you feel slightly ancient but I kind of seek solace in the fact that I did sign my deal when I was fifteen. So you know, it's okay. So are there going to be any new tracks on the album? No, sorry. Well purely because I've released too many singles and there are no singles we could actually leave off the album. I did want to record a new song but now we've reached our maximum point. What's your fave song that you've released so far? I would have to say Thank You. Purely because of the impact that it had on people and the fact that people related to it and reacted to it so strongly. I was very pleased with that. What has been your greatest achievement so far? Well musically and personally? Musically, getting to the stage where I can release a greatest hits, I think that quite an achievement and I'm very proud of that. And personally I think just not falling apart in this mad, crazy world. Being a mother of two and also with so many projects going on, I think that I've achieved a lot not to turn into a madwoman! How do you manage to stay so grounded? I think it's my family and my friends, I'm very big on friendship and I definitely take advantage of my support network. So I think that's what's definitely helped me to keep it together! Have you had the same group of friends the whole time you've been singing? Yeah my two best friends, I knew them since I was ten and then there's my cousin who I count as a best friend as well and obviously I've known her since she was born. What would you say has been the highlight of your the highlight of your career so far? I think performing at Party in the Park. I bought my Mum along as well and she got to meet Prince Charles and that was an amazing day. What was he like? Absolutely lovely and even though he'd probably been briefed ten seconds before he came to meet me, he seemed to know everything about me and asked very relevant questions. I was like 'Oh my gosh, he knows who I am!' But then I saw his briefer guy who was telling him 'This is deduhduh, and this is dododo,' and I was like 'Oh, okay. So obviously he did that just before he came to speak to me.' But he was lovely, really nice. So tell me about your new hair care range… It's called Modern Me. It's being launched in all Boots stores and it's a collaboration with Toni and Guy. It's the first ever collaboration with a hair care range, as opposed to an endorsement where the product is already there, they just need someone to front it. But myself, Erin O'Connor and Helena Cristianson all took part in the testing. The testing of every last detail of each product – we told them what products we wanted and we had to test it. So sometimes my hair looked like a frizz-bomb and I wouldn't leave the house because the shampoo wasn't right. But eventually we got it all sorted and even down to the smell. I was very particular about the smell. And I must say, not that I'm in competition with the other girls, but mine definitely smells the best. Well obviously… Yeah, I'm just ecstatic about it. I think it's such a triumph and Toni and Guy, I think they are very brave and very forward thinking. And I'm eternally grateful for them to be the ones to front my range. So why did you want to get involved with it? Well basically I was approached and the fact is that it's never been done before. Number one was that there has never been a range like this where they actually collaborate with the models themselves. And number two the fact that it was the first UK black hair care range. Well it's not even just for black hair but it's for textured hair basically. So I'd go shopping with my friends, and then they could go into Boots and pick up their shampoo and I wouldn't have to go to a specialist shop. So I love the fact that other girls who look like me or have hair like me can now go into Boots and pick up their shampoo too. So I think it's a real triumph and it's about time too [laughs]. What's your top beauty tip? Wear a smile at all times, it always makes you feel better, even if you're not feeling great, smile and it does give you a bit of a sunny disposition. And a hair tip? My hair tip is... to use the Model Me range, there's something in it for everyone. Even if it's not my range. Just use it, 'cos you'll like it. And your top fashion tip? Make sure you're comfortable. No matter what it is, if you're comfortable then you will walk with confidence and I think that's what makes clothes look good. What's the worst outfit you've ever had to wear? Oh I've had some clangers I have. I was doing a show, this was years and years ago, and I thought it would be really cool to wear a plan black vest and some leather, well the back of the leg was leather and the front of the leg was like red and black zebra stripe. It was a faux pas if there ever was one. So do you have any confessions…? Oh confessions... Okay my confession is that I'm a huge, huge, huge p*ssy Cat Dolls fan. Now the reason that this is a confession is because the p*ssy Cat Dolls are actually banned in my house, because I don't want my daughters to like them, you know because of their beginnings. But I absolutely love them and I think they're great but I just don't want my daughters singing their songs or writhing around like burlesque dancers. Fair enough. So how do you juggle being a mum and being a celebrity? I don't know I just kind of get on with it, and I try and combine the two. I'm very fortunate that I have a job where I can bring my kids to work if needs be. That can be fun sometimes, if not hectic. But it's great really. Do they like it, going to work with mummy? Oh yeah they absolutely love it, they would give heaven and earth to come to work with me every single day. What have you been watching on the telly at the moment? I have been watching Heroes, I am absolutely obsessed. And I'm one of these people who asks someone 'Ooh, have you been watching Heroes?' And they turn round to me and say 'No' and I'm like 'What!!?' You know it's just the most amazing thing on earth. Yeah, I love Heroes I do, It's brilliant. We recently spoke to Hayden Panitierre who plays Claire… Oh really? She was in… what was she in? Was she in High School musical or something? She was in something... Erm, no she was the baby ant in Bugs Life… Really? No way! Do you remember your first kiss? I do and it was oh my gosh… it was hideous actually. Well it wasn't like a snog, it was just like a kiss and I was like ten. And I remember I had built up to it for like about a week, this boy, his name was Nathan, said he wanted to kiss me, and I was like 'Oh my God, okay' 'cos I really loved him. Anyway we were supposed to meet under this bridge near my house. So we did and then like he ran up to me, kissed me, and ran off. And I nearly fainted I was like 'Oh my God, I've just kissed Nathan! Oh my God.' So yeah it was great [laughs]. Have you ever embarrassed yourself on a date? I would say absolutely, I embarrass myself on most dates. What's the weirdest thing a fan has given to you? Ooh I don't know, the weirdest thing? I think it's more like I get normal presents like chocolates and teddy bears and stuff... Actually the weirdest thing a fan has done is given me their baby. This is not a joke, we were leaving a show and I'm in the back of the car and the window was open. And someone just put their baby through the window and gave it to me and I said to the driver. 'Oh my God stop, there's a baby in the car!' And he turned round and I've got this cute, he couldn't have been more than eight weeks, little boy. And then so the driver steps out and is like 'Who's baby is this?' And then the lady comes and she was like 'Oh I just want to take a picture' It was mad - we could have just carried on driving! So yeah I think that would have to be the weirdest present I have received from a fan! How funny! Well at least you didn't get it in the post… Well… yeah exactly, exactly! What's the strangest thing you have found down the back of your sofa? With two little girls I imagine there will be lots down there… Exactly. My youngest she's a little terrorist and recently I found like a slice of toast down there. It hadn't been there just for the day either, it was quite disgusting. Anybody with a two year old will understand. What are the top five songs on your iPod at the moment? Sean Kingston – Beautiful Girls. Then JoJo's version, which is like the reply. Outkast – Hey-ya. Oh that's three isn't it.What else am I loving at the moment … Avril Lavigne – Girlfriend, that's purely for my daughters, they love that song. Oh and that Mark Ronson and Lily Allen song, I really love that one. What was the naughtiest thing you ever did at school? Broke the pipe, basically we had showers in the gym and me and my friend Debbie decided to climb up on the shower pipe, to try and look into the boys showers. So we did and obviously the weight of two 14 year old girls, broke the pipe. There was water going everywhere, we ran out, I don't know how, but without getting wet. The school actually got flooded and we had the day off the next day. Did they find out it was you? No they didn't. Oh well done! What's the worst thing you have ever done to get revenge? I don't know. I'm not really a very vengeful person. | can't think of anything. What's the biggest lie you have ever told? That I was going to school one day and I didn't go to school, I went to hang out at my cousin's house. And then I stupidly walked past my mum's workplace. So obviously I couldn't have been at school, and my mum saw me but I didn't see her, and then like later in the day, she said 'Ooh, how was school today?' And I was like 'It was fine, I was in geography.' And she was like 'I saw you today' and I just burst into tears, I was like 'I'm so sorry mum, I'll never do it again.' And I didn't. If you were to place a lonely hearts ad, what would you write? Good sense of humour, not bad in the looks department, likes to laugh... and buy me chocolate! Did you have a nickname at school? Yes it was Jammy Dodger. Which was obviously, longer than my own name but they found it quite funny to call me Jammy Dodger but I didn't mind, 'cos no one could remember my name anyway. Bet they do now. If you had fifteen minutes left to live what would you do? I would eat chocolate with my family. Chocolate and popcorn. Sweet or salty? Sweet definitely. Toffee actually, that's my favourite. What did you have for breakfast this morning? Scrambled eggs and toast, that's what I had, it was lovely. Do you think you're good looking? I don't think I'm ugly. What's the worst date that you've ever been on? I don't really go on dates that I don't want to go on, that I'm not too excited about. It would just have to be someone who just bored me really. You know, if you went on a date with me and you never saw me again then you know why. Have you ever been chatted up by a celeb? Other than Shaggy of course…Usher, Pharell Williams, Robbie Williams… I can't think of anybody else right now. Oh and Lloyd Banks, which was interesting. Usher? You're doing well girl. Yeah, yeah exactly, can't complain. I can't complain at all. Who your weirdest celebrity crush? I think his name was Mario Lopez, he was from Saved By The Bell.

This woman seriously has one of the biggest egos in pop <_<
March 4, 200818 yr PLEASE. She is a VERY down to earth lady. I am positive she didn't mean it in the way that you're thinking of. Edited March 4, 200818 yr by Martin.
March 4, 200818 yr PLEASE. She is a VERY down to earth lady. I am positive she didn't mean it in the way that you're thinking of. Yeah yeah, her whole attitude just reeks of "look at me, I had a couple of big hits, love me". And it's not just this, I've pointed it out in a fair few Jamelia threads now. She's made some good music but she needs to realise she has another 10 years left in the business before she can even think about thinking THAT highly of herself.
March 4, 200818 yr It seems you like to pick & choose what you read about Jamelia, because she really isn't like you think she is at all. What other comments from Jamelia made you think like this? For a British R&B artist to last in the music industry for 10 years, having enjoyed worldwide success, is an incredible achievement.

For a British R&B artist to last in the music industry for 10 years, having enjoyed worldwide success, is an incredible achievement. I forget which comments but most things I read from her scream DIVA, and not in the way people in this forum use it either - in the original, negative sense of the word. Her success also is nowhere near as substantial as she seems to think, one successful album here? I like her music though so we do at least have some common ground. 'Superstar' is among my most favourite choons.
March 4, 200818 yr The original sense of the word is actually positive. It was used to describe a woman of great talent, I believe. She's far from a diva though (negative sense). Do you think diva's use public transport? Shop at Tesco's? Buy 'George' clothes from Asda? Wipe the sh*t from their child's arse? Of course not. J's enjoyed a very successful career. While she's only released three albums (forget that 'Superstar - The Hits' rubbish), she's managed to sell millions globally and had numerous singles enter the top 40 charts. Not to mention start up a modelling career and is currently branching out further into acting.
April 15, 200818 yr "I don't think I'm ugly"!!!!! Do I need to say anymore?....Jamelia is horrid She's horrid because she's happy with the way she looks? Umm...okay. I guess being insecure must mean you're a nice person then?
