DigitalSpy review:

According to rumour, Alex Turner's side-project The Last Shadow Puppets took shape after he decided the cover art should feature him and Rascals frontman Miles Kane donning cream polo necks and puffing cigarettes next to a grand piano. Turner and Kane wanted to make "big and epic" Bacharach-style pop that was a million miles from the scruffy, rag-tag indie of their respective bands. On paper, it looked like an arrogant, self-indulgent folly, but you couldn't deny the pair's bravery.

From the first swell of orchestral strings to its final cinematic rumble, 'The Age of the Understatement' proves that Turner and Kane aren't mucking about on this one. Crossing spaghetti western melodrama with haunting psychedelia, this couldn't be further from the skinny-jeans indie of 'Mardy Bum'. Meanwhile, Turner's lyrics ("Subtle in her method of seduction, twenty little tragedies begin"), will have many searching for hints about the state of his relationship with Alexa Chung. It's hard to tell how seriously we should be taking the Puppets, but, on this evidence, it's going to be a lot of fun finding out.

I hope I can find the time to go and get the single during the week

Is it out on CD this week? I thought it was the 14th when it came out!

I'll probably just download the CD single as there's nowhere in York that sells them anymore.

I thought the same, everywhere on the web says the 14th

Up to #21 now!

It's really good. They were only added onto iTunes last night and Arctic Monkeys' strength was never on downloads it was on the physicals and although the physical market is slowly decreasing they'll still get big sales from them.

Up to 10 on itunes now. VERY encouraging as, like Rooney has said, for a band that initially broke due to the internet their singles have never garnered huge download sales, relying instead on large physical purchases. Plus this song will appeal to much more than Monkeys fans IMO. No idea what's out next week but this could chart very highly when it's out in the shops.

I don't think there's much to challange it really, the main challange will still be Estelle. I'm still hoping this can do better on downloads but we'll just see!

David Bowie has expressed his delight at Alex Turner and Miles Kane's cover of one of his songs.

The Last Shadow Puppets have recorded 'In The Heat Of The Morning' as the b-side of their first release, single 'The Age Of The Understatement', out on April 14.

Having now heard their cover, Bowie told his website Davidbowie.com that he loved their version.

"That's a delight!" declared the legend. "How lovely. A daymaker."

Down from 9 to 11 on itunes :o

It's still Top30 in the midweeks too. I thought it might have climbed a bit. Is strange. I hope its downloads rise again though!
