March 14, 200817 yr also the mccann's are media friendly they were savy they knew how to work the media and hired a publicist and got their family in the UK to do interviews, they courted the media and the media saw that they were willing to do photos and interviews so used their story to sell to the public all the while trying to raise awareness for their daughter. also the media is shallow and fickle they put a huge emphasis on the fact that madeline was "beautiful" and that somehow made the story more sad or tragic in their eyes and therefore in the public eyes. that her beauty was the reason the person abducted her....well thats was what i heard one of her relatives say at the time it happenes. but looks or class shouldn't come into this at all, they are both children and shannon's story is just as worthy as madeline's which is just as worthy as all the abducted children that we hear about and don't hear about. Great news that Shannon has been found alive less than a mile from her parents home. :w00t: But I have to comment on this well observed post. This is exactly why the GBP turned against the McCann's before it was reflected in the media because of working class resentment to the "establishment" and the ridiculous OTT amount of coverage this story had in the media compared to other similar story's (as already pointed out in this thread). I work with colleagues who it is fair to say are heading towards if not already middle-class status. From a discussion we had on the subject (at a work's bonding meal) not one of them felt the Parents we're involved in her death like the Portuguese media & police we're insinuating. Whilst at my local pub which is definitely Working Class I think it is not unreasonable to say that the majority felt that the parents had murdered Madeleine. (But then again a lot of my pub still think Princess Diana was murdered by the "establishment" and a few think the Moon Landings never actually happened. In short it comes down to a "Them or Us" or "Masses Against The Classes" viewpoint rather than looking at what facts were available.
March 15, 200817 yr well im surprised... thats the first time i can ever remember a little girl go missing only to be found alive!!! im happy for her and her family, but id be even more surprised if she HASNT been abused by the 'loner' extended family member who shes been with.
March 15, 200817 yr I know I'm suprised she was found alive. Cases like these, the kids are never found alive but I'm glad Shannon is now safe.
March 16, 200817 yr This is an unusual case, very few children are found after this long. But I find worrying that the only contact Shannon has so far had with her family is a short visit from mum, seen through a glass screen. There is a lot to this story that we don't know and the police have a very difficult job ahead of them. If there is found to be a more extensive family involvement I can only imagine the backlash from the communuity that supported the family. (*at the back of my mind is a niggle that the sums of money that appeared to be poured into Madeline campaign funds have led this family to do something very stupid - but maybe I am just extremely cynical and I hope I am wrong*)
March 16, 200817 yr I'm not convinced about this whole situation either. I do hope I'm wrong but something just isn't ringing true with me. I think the cops know a lot more than has been made public. We'll see..... <_<
March 17, 200817 yr Yep, there's definitely something going on. The Chief Supernintendo on the news last night seemed to be acting very strangely.
March 17, 200817 yr (*at the back of my mind is a niggle that the sums of money that appeared to be poured into Madeline campaign funds have led this family to do something very stupid - but maybe I am just extremely cynical and I hope I am wrong*) That did occur to me aswell as I read on the front page of the Daily Star that this guy they're questioning claims her parents knew where she was the whole time. But I'm keeping an open mind, a] because it's the daily star running the story and b] because surely they can't be THAT stupid as to believe they'd get away with such a stunt? I'm sure all will be revealed. Something obviously isn't quite right though since she hasn't been allowed home. Although it could be just because this guy is a member of her family. The police possibly just want to cover all possibilities. We'll see. Edited March 17, 200817 yr by ceilidh
March 17, 200817 yr (*at the back of my mind is a niggle that the sums of money that appeared to be poured into Madeline campaign funds have led this family to do something very stupid - but maybe I am just extremely cynical and I hope I am wrong*) SPOT ON!...... we thought this yesterday... there has to be a motive for abducting her, either sexual... of which atm theres no evidence or something else.... it could well be that these dumb parents (the mother thinks that 'twins' are kids that have the same father..... but can be born years apart!!!, that would be 'brother/sisters' then!!! ). it could well be that this 'abduction' was staged to get a fund going..... only they are too stupid to execute it properly...if thats possible at all!
