March 12, 200817 yr tbh i didnt think the chart was that good!..... imho things were on the slide after the punk/new wave/ ska/ new romantic era a few years earlier. prefer 77-82 over 84... in fact 86 IMHO was the last good year... but there was a few of my all time favs in 86, theres none from 84 really... but we have discussed 1984's musical credentials before
March 12, 200817 yr For me to say that I like nearly half a chart is outrageous for me. Maybe this is me looking back through rose tinted spectacles but this was when my interest in pop really awoke and I started my obsession with all things music in earnest. So I guess this time will always be special to me.
March 12, 200817 yr Shannon - Let The Music Play is an ANTHEM! I would've been under 3 months old when this chart was announced and I think this chart is probably better than last weeks! HA! And another guilty pleasure... Bananarama 'Robert De'Niros Waiting'.... oh yes!
March 12, 200817 yr For me to say that I like nearly half a chart is outrageous for me. Maybe this is me looking back through rose tinted spectacles but this was when my interest in pop really awoke and I started my obsession with all things music in earnest. So I guess this time will always be special to me. which is the mistake most of the population make... 'it was better in my time'... they become arrested in that one time period. very 'un-john peel', who constantly championed new music throughout his life.... what an example.
March 12, 200817 yr ps....... i wasnt aiming that at you grebo...:) obviously most on here are into a wide variety of music over a wide period of time
March 12, 200817 yr I know that - there is good music from all genres and all time periods just that some times are more special than others. So for me it is nearly always when alternative and guitar music is in the ascendency so apart from 1979-1984ish, I also thought 1986-88 were great for indie, 89-92 grunge, 93-97 Britpop. But even then there is always great music around if you look hard enough which is something that I learnt from Mr Peel. Edited March 12, 200817 yr by grebo69
March 12, 200817 yr oh i agree, its just that sometimes i couldnt be arsed to look! so when i didnt like the current chart trends i went retro, hunting down forgotten 80's tracks, hence period 85-95 i thought were pretty dire. tbh, i think these last few years have produced some fantastic tracks albeit unoriginal ones! love razorlight, hard fi, qotsa, white stripes... i wouldnt argue against some dude in the future extoling the virtues of mid 00's pop... (indie <_<), 02-06 was for me the third best era in pop music (behind 64-8, 77-82) with many all time classics released recently. (id suggest that qotsa have released material as good as any rock in history... 'no one knows' in particular)
