Arctic Monkeys have already made headway with their third album and are expecting it to be released before the end of the year, say reports.

According to the Daily Star, the Sheffield band decided to attend the Brit Awards for the first time last month because they were already in the capital recording the follow-up to 2007's Favourite Worst Nightmare.

"A lot of people were surprised to see Arctics at the Brits as it’s usually the kind of event they steer clear of," said a source.

"The reason they went is because they’ve been down in London working on new material and fancied a night off to relax.

"Alex [Turner] is overflowing with song ideas and it’s all going so well they’re looking at releasing an album this year. The mood in the Monkeys’ camp is very vibrant"

Turner is currently promoting his side-project The Last Shadow Puppets with The Rascals' Miles Kane.

Their debut single 'The Age Of The Understatement' is released on April 14.

Oooh very interesting, I would love them to release another album this year but I can't see it happening. :(

The lack of an actual quote from the band makes this seem unlikely imo. Just rumours.

Apparently Jamie is taking a break from the Monkeys atm to spend more time with his girlfriend. I don't expect an album this year. I expect them to maybe start recording etc. come the summer and then hopefully the 3rd album shall be out for around February next year! :D

with that band you can never be sure for anythin...n i expect everythin!

Arctic Monkeys To Work On Third Album This Summer

Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner has revealed that the band will spend this summer working on tracks for their third album.

Speaking to the BBC 6 Music, Turner said that the group had already recorded six songs in January that they had “been playing on tour”.

"We’re going to take it easy and start practicing over the summer and doing new stuff,” Turner said.

“We did a little thing in January and it was almost tempting to go again ‘cos it was dead exciting but we thought, 'No, take it easier, chill out a bit and consider'.”

It’s not yet clear when the follow-up to the band’s number one second album ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’ will be released.

Well Alex has now confirmed that they have new songs already done, so this could mean another AM album by maybe early/mid 2009. :w00t:
