He rants on about 'punk' on another thread... the problem is - he's American - what on earth do Americans know about REAL punk? They tried to claim the ownership for punk in the 70s saying Ramones, Blondie and Patti Smith were punk.

 

Well... they weren't. At best, Ramones were a grotty little rock band.

 

Punk lived, and died in the late 70s in Britain with The Clash, The Sex Pistols and The Damned. It was invented by Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood - nothing whatsoever to do with America. In fact, the only American in the whole circle was Nancy Spungen (Sid Vicious's girlfriend). She was the Courtney Love of her day - but she didn't survive to tell her tale.

 

The REAL history of punk makes a great read - for anyone interested, check 'England's Dreaming' by Jon Savage - fantastic book.

Time Of Your Life and Basket Case are excellent.

Also I love 'Boulevard' and 'When September Ends' though I feel they got a little overplayed in the end...
