Summary:

The show started off with an acoustic performance of Makes Me Wonder from the guys and throughout the show, they played more acoustic numbers: This Love (this song helped transform them into what they are today), She Will Be Loved, Won't Go Home Without You, and a proper ending for the Sunday show, Sunday Morning.

Adam said the band is 80% satisfied with It Won't Be Soon Before Long and 20% not. They hated Songs About Jane more because of limited time, money, and experience. Makes Me Wonder went from #64 to #1 at a rapid rate and made Billboard history since downloads are now able to be a contributing factor. They argued about the theme of IWBSBL. Adam couldn't stand Makes Me Wonder, it was shelved for four years before it was pulled out for use. He didn't want to use it and was uninspired because the material was old by then.

As we all know, they started out as Kara's Flowers. Michelle Branch (who has known Maroon 5 since the Kara's Flowers days) was one of the guest stars and asked them how success would have been different had they hit it with (during the time they were..) Kara's Flowers. Adam said they felt kind of miserable because they were young and it was an exploratory period for them, much like workshop and he didn't want that to show what kind of artist he is/was. They were dropped from Warner Brothers after selling only 800 copies. They almost didn't retry, but decided to give things another chance and regrouped before they found James. Songs About Jane wasn't an instant hit, they started off playing in bars. They were discovered by Octone, Octone believed in them, and they were signed once again.

The interviewer asked them how important honesty is in lyrics and Adam said it's very important. Don't try to write, let it be natural. A person writes the best songs when they are miserable.

Songs About Jane was put together in Houdini(s) mansion. Adam wouldn't stay there during that time because he was creeped out, but James stayed there with his girlfriend. He said that he thought he saw his girlfriend one night and called out to her, but the object disappeared, so he came to the conclusion that he saw a ghost. The interviewer made a joke about Adam being afraid, he told her to listen and he explained himself. The band got the idea to record in the mansion from watching a documentary about Blood Sugar Sex Magik by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Adam talked about what it was like touring with The Police, he said it was incredible. It went very well. They met Sting and have nothing but good things to say about him, he's a nice guy. They gave Won't Go Home Without You a Police vibe to pay homage to them.

There were a few more guests during the show, Mark McGrath from Sugar Ray and Graham Nash of Crosby, Stills, and Nash were the other two. Maroon 5 opened for Sugar Ray in the past and Mark was asking them if they could do the reverse and open for Maroon 5 sometime in the future. Graham Nash asked Maroon 5 to join them on tour, so that could be happening in the future. I think Adam said he is good friends with Graham's kids and Graham was a big help to the band throughout, he paid for the demos that got them signed. Adam also mentioned that Mark let him use his treadmill.

Adam doesn't always like his songs, he stated that he's very insecure about his material. He likes to get validation from the band or the general public. He likes to be alone when writing music because he's embarrassed to write in front of the band. When Adam brings a song to use, it's usually unanimous whether to use it or not. Adam wrote the hook to Won't Go Home Without You in 30 seconds when he was pulling into the driveway one day. He wrote that almost after their first album came out. Adam claims that once he writes the chorus, everything else is effortless. Writing the chorus is his favorite part. IWBSBL avoided the sophomore slump.

That's pretty much what was talked about and what happened on/during the interview, Adam did most of the talking.
