He's a pillock, after all that Ashley Cole stuff during the week you'd of thoguht he'd have taken notice.

Yes Macherano got sent off, he lost it but it the incident hadn't happened on Wednesday he wouldn't have been sent off.

Sorry, but Torres never should have been booked which caused it - the ref's lost it and is been influenced by events that have happened this week.

Torres should not have been booked, but he was at the end of the day and Jamie was right, Mascherano on a yellow card after some other descent offences as well, cant expect to run 20 yards past Alonso holding him back (or trying too) and not get a yellow, surely?

But what DID he do wrong? He was only asking the Ref why he got booked. Is that descent? :/

Come on, the look on his face whilst doing it and the implication he clearly shouted before he even got to the referee doesnt say much about what he was saying does it? Let alone sprinting 20 yards...

Well Masch just completely lost it. He was too fired up and just lost it. I can't believe he's refereeing a game as big as this one after all the fuss on Wednesday. I'd be suprised if Masch would have got sent off had the game on Wednesday not happened. I'm not sticking up for Masch as he deservedly got sent off but oh my, the refs don't sometimes cause their own grief.

So what he shouted? People shout at the Ref all the time, if they got booked everytime they did then there would be no-one left on the pitch would they?

LOL well i dont think he said "Excuse me Mr. Bennett Sir, please could you tell me why my friend Fernando over here has got a yellow card :o" :)

Fair enough, and i agree with you. I mean referees dont half make it hard for themselves in feeling they have to send someone off

But since wednesday there's been a HUGELY deserving clampdown on this type of thing! I don't really care what it was he said, anyone who runs to the ref in protest of any kind is an idiot. Has he been living in a cave? People do it all the time because it's got out of control, they shouldn't be doing it AT ALL! Players should respect the referees decisions and only the captain should be allowed to speak to him. Thumbs up to Steve Bennett from me!

Fair enough, if thats your opinion.

If that's the case then the half the Liverpool team should have been sent off. They all went round him at half time. You can't expect players if these sort of cases to run about and have tea parties and give each other hugs and kisses when things don't go there way. It's a natural reaction to complain when things don't go your way. Torres should NEVER have been booked. You hear Fergie go on about a big rant about referees protecting Ronaldo, yet when Torres complains he didn't get protected he gets booked. Is stupid.

I agree you refs need to be treated with respect and Masch was in the wrong but the ref lacked balls in my opinion, and the events off the field last week influenced his decisions in the game.

Overall can't have too many compaints with the result. Ever since Masch got sent off it was always a case of how many Man Utd will score for me, as you can't play the formation we're playing at the moment with 10 men. Torres already gets too isolated at times and with Masch getting sent off it just makes it worse. The goals, og my. I was fuming when Alan Smith was saying something like "why doesn't Skrtel attempt to head the ball away from Brown" - bit hard when he's got two hands of his back. :manson: 2nd goal, yet again another set piece. Good finish and an abysmal attempt at marking from Alonso. 3rd goal was a goal that excellent. Nani completely got the better of the Liverpool defence who just seemed to have completely bottled it.

Mascherano deserved everything he got. He deservedly got booked for a rash challenge and then went on to make 2/3 more fouls. Anybody with sense, regardless of this past weeks incidents, wouldn't go flying up to the referee in such a state when they were treading such a thin line. Sky Sports coverage also clearly showed Masch mouthing 'fuck off' at the referee and numerous occasions after the booking. And then he was contesting every decision the ref was making. The sending off was fully justified in my opinion.

That's what lost them the match too imo, the midfield went completely flat following the red card. Gerrard had to play far too deep for his own good and the only scoring opportunities were when Gerrard would push forward and either take a shot or lay it on for Torres. The Mascherano suspension will have serious implications for their 4th place challenge aswell, what with them entertaining Everton just next week.

Here's hoping for a draw between Chelski and Arsenal now..

what goes around comes around :heehee:

now he can serve a ban after getting away scot free in Aliadiere-gate

I didn't watch the game so can't comment on what else he did but from reading comments it seemed Liverpool fans were dead against it, Utd fans were dead for it and the majority of neutral's went in Utd's favour. All it will take is for two or three players to stupidly get red cards and people will soon realise and stop. Dissent is an offence, and should be penalised. It's only the lack of balls shown by refs in the past few years which has lead to them being surrounded by 8 players every time a decision goes against a big 4 side because they can't face it and don't know how to lose. It's about time it was clamped down upon...

There was a piece on Football Focus yesterday saying that the FA are introducing it to grass roots level to stop kids from disrespecting referees at a young age. What better way to stop them by sending off some of their heroes? They see the likes of Mascherano, Gerrard, Terry, Cole, Fabregas, Gallas, Rooney moaning at the refs every week and they get away with it 99% of the time and copy them, it's about time something was done!

They're going to trial the idea of only captains speaking to the refs at next seasons Community Shield, I hope it goes well because it really is about time something was done. I also think that the refs should be properly mic'd up like they are in rugby so if a player does tell a ref to f*** off, it's caught for everyone to hear!
