And who remembers this brilliant flop single???:

Oh yes - based around the premise that S/A/W songs were essentially pointless rubbish but had great hooks in the chorus which they also used to introduce the song thus grabbing your attention immediately.

"Then in walked Skippy...the bush kangaroo"

Falco - Rock Me Amadeus

Falco died about 10 years ago and I've got that record on one of those Bravo Hits CDs...and instead of it being Rock Me Amadeus its a cover tribute to Falco to his famous Amadeus tune

Falco & Brigitte Nielsen - Body Next to Body

..just in case you are gonna do scarey colloborations next

Auteurs - The Rubettes

Alvin Stardust - I Feel Like Buddy Holly

Danny Mirror - I Remember Elvis Presley

Weezer - Buddy Holly

Bob Dylan - Song to Woody (Woody Guthrine)

Fiesta, you should retract that e-mail before Van Morrison fans hang you from the ceiling.

Dexy's was a cover version. Although technically they did "Jocky Wilson Said" - according to TOTP floor staff anyway.

Dora Bryan - All I Want For Christmas Is A Beatle

Eurythmics - Beethoven

Soul singer The late Arthur Conley had 2 singles out in the 60s that mentioned many soul artists in the songs though not in the titles.

They were:

Sweet Soul Music - US #2 and UK#7 in 1967

Star Review - 1969

The same with Scooter (with techno/rave artists) in 1994 with their first European hit - Hyper Hyper

Edited by Euro Music

Dave Berry - Tribute To Buddy Holly

Wilson Pickett - Cole, Cooke and Redding (Nat 'King' Cole, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding)

Cabaret Voltaire - James Brown

What about song titles that mention the artist who wrote them?

Bo Diddley - Bo Diddley, Bo Diddley Is A Lover

Mott The Hoople - Ballad Of Mott

Edited by 45cat

Paul Simon - The Late Great Johnny Ace (old Rock'n'Roll singer who died playing Russian roulette in 1954)

Billy Bragg - Levi Stubbs Tears (Levi Stubbs = lead singer of Four Tops)

Barenaked Ladies - "Brian Wilson"; "Be My Yoko Ono"; and "New Kid (On The Block)"

and who remembers this track.....

Mojo Nixon - Debbie Gibson is Pregnant with my Two-headed Love Child

He also recorded "Elvis (Presley) is Everywhere" & "Don Henley Must Die"

Jesus and Mary Chain - "Bo Diddley Is Jesus"

House of Love - "The Beatles and The Stones"

The Dandy Warhols - "As Cool As Kim Deal" (Kim Deal being the bass player for Pixies by the way...)

Sonic Youth - "Song For Karen" (as in Karen Carpenter)

Too bad this thread doesn't include song lyrics as well, since Dexy's Midnight Runners mention Johnny Ray in the song 'Come on Eileen'....
