Posted March 29, 200817 yr Shakira was promoted to DJs as an ''urban artist'' to DJs o: A few days ago I won some 12'' DJ promo vinyls off ebay [Objection/Te Aviso Te Anuncio/UYC] and inside the UYC one were lots of sheets [like the DJ must fill them in to send back to the record company because they ask about how people react to the song and stuff.] Well anyway, there was also a press release with it, and it's from the ''Urban Division'' of Sony BMG, and describes the song as ''latin R&B with her the rock chick shining through!'' and it gives loads of website links to places like ''so-urban.com'' and contact details to people within the Sony urban divison. I know this is random but I thought it's worth saying  Though the sheet is pretty informative. By the time the ''Objection'' promo vinyl was being distributed, LS had sold 9 Million WW, and had been in the UK Top 40 Album Chart for #31 weeks o: and it also lists the countries at the time of which sales status it had achieved. Remember this was before the end of the era so sales will be higher but: 5x Platinum: India/Venezuela 4x Platinum: Canada, Colombia, Egypt, Spain, Switzerland 3x Platinum: US, Australia 2x Platinum: Central America, Ecuador, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Portugal, Turkey 1x Platinum: UK  Remember though that in the end it sold over 1 million copies in the UK, so sales obviously went up in all those other countries also D:
April 1, 200817 yr nice find! thats the good thing about buying promo stuff you get promo sheets with info. thats interesting, i always thought the UK divison of sony have no idea how to promote shakira here and now we have proof!! they don't get her and thats very worrying considering they are responsible for her here. her music doesn't fit into a certain type of sound and they don't know who to target but her appeal is broad, i can't believe they tried to pass her off as urban  objection is not urban in a any way shape or form. amazing 9 million at that stage! shakira was a big deal worldwide in 2002/2003, she really broke through and became A list international artist. the last update we had was right at the end of the LS era and the album had reached 13 million but thats out of date. the album was then cut in price and started to chart again in the fixation era so she could have even more sales. i haven't heard about LS selling 1 million in the UK. i think its more like 500-600k we should get official figures from sony in the next era.
April 5, 200817 yr I heard that it sold 900k in the uk, must be a way to find out? I can't wait for shakira's comeback.. she does need a big rest after that huge tour but im hoping that half of the next album will be great commercial songs with a shakira spin on them and then some classic shakira as i want her to be huge here too!
April 8, 200817 yr I heard that it sold 900k in the uk, must be a way to find out? I can't wait for shakira's comeback.. she does need a big rest after that huge tour but im hoping that half of the next album will be great commercial songs with a shakira spin on them and then some classic shakira as i want her to be huge here too! i'm going to check the chart and sales posts....aha i found the figure of 800k but that could have been a few years ago so over 900k could be very possible. its a waiting game but i can't wait either, she is getting a proper rest. hopefully it all kicks off at the end of the year. good timing to catch the xmas sales. i wonder who else will be coming back at that time. will her mate beyonce be back, solo fergie too? the timing now is bad with many female artists all competiting, madonna, mariah, janet, kylie, leona, celine plus britney. it will be interesting to see who will come out on top by the end of their eras. most likely she'll come back with 1 album instead of the hectic split 2 albums to promote worldwide project. it was risky and ambitious to do that but she pulled it off, sales don't lie! she had a very successful era again clocking up the 2nd biggest song of all time (since 1999) after cher's "believe". things will be slicker we should get 4 or 5 fully promoted international releases. can you imagine if she puts in 2 commercial uptempo fusion hip shakers on 1 album :w00t: it will be twice as powerful as any previous album. her fusion tracks like OA, WW, LT and HDL are her trademark no one can do what she does so successfully. you can't predict what she'll do or what sound she may focus on. its most likely be eclectic again but if she puts in more radio friendly tracks she could see some monster worldwide sales in 2009.
April 11, 200817 yr Thanks for sharing :D I think LS has sold over 1million in the UK now. It was over 800k when it left the top 75 in 2003. It reentered the chart in 2006 and bobbed around the top 200 for quite a while so I think it's quite likely that it's sold over 1 million now.
