It nearly happened a couple of weeks ago but now Sharon Shannon could create a new record for length of weeks in the Irish singles chart before reaching number 1!

Her recording of Galway Girl with Mundy has now been on the charts for 43 weeks enirely on download and had seemed to peak a fortnight ago when it rose to number 2. Having spent the last 2 weeks at no 5 it should move back up next week as today saw the release of a physical version of the single. This is where it gets confusing! The original recording where Sharon teamed up with Steve Earle has also entered the chart - originally it had a 1 week run a few months back but it has spent the last 3 weeks around the bottom end of the Top 30. The CD single appears to have the Steve Earle version as the lead track but includes the Mundy version as well. So will it climb 4 places to number 1 or 26 places? And if the latter will the version currently listed at 5 drop out completelY?

im not sure what wat the phyisiacl release will change things at all to be honest

I spotted them right on the counter as you go to pay today in HMV, so I imagine the physical will have a huge effect on the charts.

Had another search online and the Mundy version seems to have top billing with the Steve Earle version being track 2!

There have been others which have taken even longer in the Irish charts! Full details on the Irish Charts thread!
I actually really like the song...I got an album called That's Proper Folk earlier in the week, and Galway Girl is the last track on there...I can see how it has become a hit, very catchy
