Posted April 6, 200817 yr 01 Migrate - CLUB banger, T-Pain is amazing on it and her little tune she sings throughout is amazing. 10/10 02 Touch My Body - We all know it, wrong lead single IMO, still a catchy little number :) 8/10 03 Cruise Control - I must have overlooked this in the clips because its AMAZING, she does this really cute little jamacian accent, beats cool and the whole song just flows really well. 10/10 04 I Stay In Love - First proper piano ballad on the album, it's worth listening all the way through for the legendary Mariah belting at the end. 10/10 05 Side Effects - A bit like Migrate in the fact that its a banger, beat is AMAZING and she sounds really good on these types of tracks, could do without Young Jeezy but thats just personal taste. 9/10 06 I'm That Chick - I'm a bit confuzed over the bumming of this, it's good but probably one of my least faves on the album, still nice beat and as usual she sounds great. 8/10 07 Love Story - The annoying bitches at the start annoy me LOL, but its a good little slow tempo, i love the beat its really strong :D. 9/10 08 I'll Be Loving U Long Time - REALLY reminds me of "Your Girl", its a short happy song with Mariah belting over the funky backing music. LOVE IT. 10/10 09 Last Kiss - JD Produced, so take that as you want. It's ok, not my favourite. Another slow track, has a really cute little synthy sound occasionally HAHA. 8/10 10 Thanx 4 Nothing - Yet another JD production. I like this but the beat could have been better, its a slow jam but its got a really addictive "uh oh uh oh uh oh" bit. 9/10 11 O.O.C. - Uptempo :D, the chorus is f***ing catchy, the "it's forever" line is awesome. 10/10 12 For The Record - NOW THIS IS INCREDIBLE! This should be Single #2 imo (if shes insisting on a ballad). The tune is just outstanding and I'm loving the belting bit towards the end. 10/10 (would give more LOL) 13 Bye Bye - I LIKE this a lot, but not love. I wouldn't release it 2nd. 9/10 14 I Wish You Well - Piano-vocal-ballad, not a huge fan of this. 7/10 Overall: 9/10 Edited April 6, 200817 yr by MikalWikal

April 6, 200817 yr Here's my very quick review of the album from my first listen: 01 - Migrate Ft T-Pain - Great club banger opening song, great pop/r&b anthem, love it  - 9/10 02 - Touch My Body - Everyone knows this by now, never liked it at first, but its a great pop song - 8/10 03 - Cruise Control Ft Damian Marley - Only managed to get a minute through, dull, boring, filler - 2/10 04 - I Stay In Love - First ballad on the album and its amazing, not much of a chorus but its great - 9/10 05 - Side Effects Ft Young Jeezy - Love this song, quite addictive electro r&b, needs to be released :yahoo: - 9/10 06 - I'm That Chick - Preferred the live version to this, this versions a bit more boring, still good though - 6.5/10 07 - Love Story - Quite a nice ballad here, nothing wow, not much of a chorus again - 7/10 08 - I'll Be Lovin You Long Time - Great uptempo soulful r&b song here, very catchy, summery, love it - 9/10 09 - Last Kiss - Good r&b ballad again, the instrumental is great, the melody lets it down but its good still - 7/10 10 - Thanx 4 Nothin' - Fairly slow pop/r&b song here, reminds me of something from 2000/2001, dont have much to say on it - 7.5/10 11 - O.O.C - Pretty good stuff, a bit of a filler though - 6/10 12 - For The Record - Quite a slow ballady type song here, like this a lot, amazing instrumental - 8.5/10 13 - Bye Bye - Really like this, love the lyrics, not as good as WBT though - 8.5/10 14 - I Wish You Well - Very early Mariah sounding, soulful piano track, however its a bit boring - 4.5/10 Overall - Starts of pretty well but the second half of the album was rather boring imo, need a few more listens, not a patch of the amazing 'Emancipation Of Mimi' - 7.25/10 Edited April 6, 200817 yr by Conor
April 6, 200817 yr I can't be asked to rate so I'll just write. E=MC2, the second power to The Emancipation Of Mimi. TEOM, a glamorous album on it's outside, but a bland, boring album on the inside. E=MC2, part 2, is TEOM's after party album. It sobers up from the wasted sham of MC's 2005 album, and although it's production may not be as glorious, it's certainly alot better. E=MC2's highlight track is the Danja produced 'Migrate'. A cool, gentle club banger, featuring tuned computer vocals, which are effective, and not forgetting T-Pain aswell. The album progresses through other bangers, like 'Side Effects' and the soft, street beat swappen to the reggae drums 'Cruise Control', but then in Mariah spirit it unfolds into a bore. 'I'm That Chick'. Really Mariah? Judging by the song, I don't think your any chick someone wants to be. She sings about being ice cream, whilst the bore base slowly drags on and on, and, on. 'Im That Chick' is self-explanatory for what we hear in the last half of the album. The last half slowly sludges it's way through weak "ballads" you could call them. 'Emotion'less, uninteresting, tiresome tracks, one after the other. There is no 'Without You' or even a more recent 'Mine Again' on here. However, hidden at the end of the album is it's special little gem, 'I Wish You Well', a raw piano-driven track, as Mariah plays and displays her rare vocal ability, jumping from belting to whistle, plus it's one of the first tracks that actually shows heart written lyrics that someone could listen to. Overall? A better album than it's processor, a case where 'less is more', although the album weakens as it progresses. As mentioned, there is no consistent vocal firework displays here, but Mariah is still setting AND selling records, and will continue to do so, no matter how average her album can be. 3/5
April 6, 200817 yr Mariah Carey - E=MC² 1. Migrate - Definitely one of the stand-outs. Great beat, production, vocals. Really catchy song. Love the whistles at the beginning even if they are vocoded. 9.5/10 2. Touch My Body - Was really underwhelmed when I first heard this but it grew on me more and more. It's a fun song, definitely won't go down as a Mariah classic though IMO. 7.5/10 3. Cruise Control - Decent song, didn't really like her Jamaican accent lol. Can't see myself listening to this one that much really. 6/10 4. I Stay In Love - First ballad. Really like it, solid beat throughout and nice lyrics. Great belting at the end, bet she couldn't do it live though unfortunately. :( 8/10 5. Side Effects - Funky song, love the production and chorus. "I still live with the side effects." Don't think the rap is needed and I'm not a huge fan of just adding a random rapper to songs for not much reason. 8/10 6. I'm That Chick - Nice, happy song. It's refreshing after the quite urban and dark songs prior. I liked this when I first heard it live and still do. Not sure on some of the lyrics though lol. "Got flavour like ice-cream." 7.5/10 7. Love Story - Pretty bland and mediocre, not one of my faves. 5/10 8. I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time - Really like this, love the music and beat. Great chorus too and I like the pace too, doesn't move along too slowly. 8.5/10 9. Last Kiss - Not bad but not outstanding. Can't think of much to say about it really. 6/10 10. Thanx 4 Nothin' - Same as the last song, not brilliant but a solid track. I like her vocals at the end. 6/10 11. O.O.C - Really repetitive in parts but I like it, definitely better than the last two. Generic RnB really, could be sung by anyone. 7/10 12. For The Record - LOVE the production in this! Great music, sounds very mystical. Definitely one of my favourites, the ending is great with the whistles layered over. Fab vocals. 9.5/10 13. Bye Bye - Loved this from when I heard the leaked clip, very reminiscent of Hero. Beautiful lyrics and I love the production too. Solid beat but not too over-powering, definitely think this will do well as a single. Her belting at the end is amazing too. 9.5/10 14. I Wish You Well - A glimpse of old Mariah without the beats; love how it's piano-driven. I probably would have preferred the album to end on Bye Bye personally. Her vocals shine on this though. 8/10 Overall: Very good album I thought. Wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did but there are some amazing tracks in there. A few filler which I doubt I'll listen to much but that's to be expected of all albums really. Hope her voice improves with time in her live performances. Edited April 6, 200817 yr by Ethereal
April 6, 200817 yr My review time! The Emancipation Of Mimi was a revelation. An album filled with memorable, hooky songs which could barely fail to re-ignite the flame in Mariah's flagging career - and fail it didn't. It produced several large hits, most noticably the celebrated ballad 'We Belong Together' as well as the cool, breezy Shake It Off. Mariah found her groove working with producers such as Bryan Cox and most noticably Jermaine Dupri, and guest appearances from the likes of Nelly and Snoop Dogg cermented the album's place in history. 6 million copies were shifted in the US alone and Mariah was BACK. We've had a 3 year wait for the follow-up to The Emancipation; the big question now is whether it was worth that wait. It's an answer a lot of people will be looking for given that this album is easily the most-anticipated of the year to date. Things kick off in incredible style with 'Migrate', the opener to which features Carey's trademark whistle register being used to it's best potential and then slapped over with a huge lump of vododer treatment. It all gives quite a supernatural effect and the song doesn't disappoint from there; a big chorus with party lyrics ('from the bar to VIP, we migrate') and a surprisingly memorable rap from man of the moment T-Pain combine to make this Mariah's best album opener in quite some time. Next up it's lead single 'Touch My Body'. You all know the story with this one; Mariah coos softly over a gentle lullaby-esque beat, building up to a mesmerising chorus. The song isn't instant for everybody but it catches on sooner or later and you'll have a hard time removing it from your mind. As lead singles go it's safe in the extreme, but that's what this project needed; something to kick things off in the same vein as The Emancipation - and Body certainly isn't far removed from US #2 hit 'Shake It Off' - before Mimi takes more risks with the singles that follow. On to 'Cruise Control', which is so summery that you may want to avoid listening in the Winter time, so as not to pine for the return of the Sun. This one's nice enough as background music but the verses aren't all that easy to comprehend whilst the chorus isn't all that catchy; either way it's certainly a departure for Mariah (complete with a bizarre attempt at speaking in Jamaican tongue) so it's worthy of inclusion on the album. Mariah returns to work with Bryan-Michael Cox next, but for a song produced by a name of such calibre, 'I Stay In Love' disappoints a tad. It shares it's gentle sound with 'We Belong Together' but features none of the memorable lyrics or tune of that song, and the chances of finding yourself singing it are low; Cox seems to find better work with collaberating partner Mary J Blige; will his second song on this set fare any better? From here things turn a little darker; on 'Side Effects' Mariah alludes to 'the violent times' of her marriage. Produced by Scott Storch, the song features a tasty, synthy melody but no memorable chorus of any kind; it's a shame that the meaningful lyrics which we don't see so often from Carey appear on a slight dud of an album track. The pace slows for 'I'm That Chick', a mid/down-tempo number with quiet disco influences; the lyrics are ridiculous ('you're fiendin to blaze up and taste me, got flava like ice cream') but it all adds to the charm. The melody washes over you until you find yourself humming it over in your head, whilst the chorus is wonderfully catchy given the chilled-back nature of the song. This is Mariah at her best, and it's all the better for not being a safe piano ballad. 'Love Story' is slick as they come but doesn't really add much to the album and it's bizarre girlish hum at the beginning is completely misjudged. Things get hugely better though; on 'I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time' Mimi coos over a bright beat, but the vital difference between this and 'Cruise Control' is that this is a song you'll be singing along to, imagining you were outside topping up your tan if it's a rainy day. DJ Toomp should work with Mariah more often because if this is anything to go by, there could be plenty more magic to come; think 'Fantasy' updated for 2008 and you can't go far wrong here. Next it's 'Last Kiss', and judging by the sound of things, Dupri is getting lazy. The song itself is easy listening-type music but once again is lacking the hook necessary to match it up to any of the album tracks on Emancipation. Perhaps Dupri himself realised this because he steps up his game on 'Thanx 4 Nothin', which benefits from a slightly harder-edged sound and some delicious fast-paced vocal work in the verses. On 'O.O.C' Mariah brings her casual lingo into the song, but just so as to ensure that everybody understand, she spells it out for us too. The track itself is a bizarre mix of dark and bouncy, never really going anywhere, and by now the middle sector of the album is seriously starting to lag; lucky that Mariah has a total treat lined up for us with 'For The Record', which employs the celebrated Cox production magic found on MJB's hit 'Be Without You'. This is a mid-tempo number as good as anything ever seen from Mariah; the beat tingles and jumps along as Mariah's vocals flow over the top, and they're as strong as could be desired. The song is an example of everything combining to make for a perfect end product, glossy and deep in equal measure. Things get deeper still on 'Bye Bye', the second single set to be lifted from the album, where Carey mourns the loss of her father ('you never got to see me back at number 1') and invites the fans to look back on their losses with her. The melody is simplistic and features the fabulously judged addition of some quiet synths in the background. Mariah's vocals are again brilliant and make the song feel truly heart-felt and believable. Things get old-school at the end, for on 'I Wish You Well' it's just Mariah and a slow piano beat. There's layer over layer of whispy vocals and the whole effect is very gospel-sounding. It might be to few fans' tastes but it serves to show that Mariah hasn't left her roots behind for glossy hip-hop-infused R&B. The album as a whole could be bland or uninspired and it'd still sell well, at least initially, off the back of both her 18th US #1 single and the huge success of the previous project - but thankfully E=MC2 is neither bland nor uninspired. It is safe in large dollops, and my biggest criticism is that there aren't enough hooks - some of the songs wash over you with sinking into you - but there are also five or six truly incredible productions here that, if selected as singles, will fill out Mariah's next Greatest Hits collection very nicely. R&B doesn't often get a lot better than the way Mariah does it - so don't ignore this album. E=MC2 was not a theory Mariah came up with, but she's a genius all the same.
April 6, 200817 yr 1. Migrate - slinky and tough contemporary club anthem. so many great parts that hold your attention, the way it leads to the chorus is sublime. i'm talking about the part "soon as we walk into the club". the vocoder effect a bit too much on t-pain vocals, the last 30 seconds are outstanding! mariah's ad libs and vocal runs (she kills it). one of the best and catchiest utempo tracks from MC of all time. this will be such an easy #1 for mariah 9/10 2. Touch My Body - still really like this, its a fun playful track with quirky lyrics, its subtle not in your face with a great seductive hook 8/10 3. Cruise Control - interesting and amusing jamacian singing style, she pulls it off though. takes a while to get going but its all about the super catchy chorus. makes you want to get up and dance! nice unusual flavour on this track a definate single contender 8/10 4. Stay In Love - on familar ground here the piano ballad, its simple the last minute is wonderful great vocal, alot of passion in mariah's singing, a grower 8/10 5. Side Effects- - moody, a good midtempo track, not showy some nice production parts. a grower cause of the chorus 8/10 6. I'm That Chick - very retro summery top down road trip type of song, i can see mariah on roller skates wearing short shorts liking on some ice cream. musically it reminds me something michael jackson would have done in the early 80s but i don't want to hear it as much as i want to hear the others. 7/10 7. Love Story - quite a dull track that doesn't really get going doesn't build up sufficently to what is a lackluste chorus. JD vocal input is annoying, there is no need for all these uh, uh huhs. one of the weakest tracks on the album 5/10 8. I'll Be Lovin U Long Time - another midtempo track, just ok, a bit too laidback not enough ooumph not a very strong hook, an album track nice ending though 6/10 9. Last Kiss - another jermaine track, too subtle lacks passion or energy the chorus is weak, not feeling JD as a rapper his input should be kept to the minimum 5/10 10. Thanks For Nothing - another one with more JD background talking, too simplistic, melody is weak and similar to many of JD's production tracks. this could be a grower (so mark could be subject to change) 6/10 11. OCC -after 4 so so tracks comes a better track, fantastic verses like the way it builds up but the chorus is a bit of let down and too repretitive but still a decent track, nice production 8/10 12. For The Record - moody track beautiful beginning, great production love the strings but the part at 1:18 momentum is broken but you get used to it, nice chorus the way she sings the "the first time" is beautiful. nice end with those high notes. single contender. 8/10 13. Bye Bye - strong powerful lyrics, simple track and simple chorus a bit repititive, its very smooth a bit too smooth and poppy for me. but its still good especially the last 30 seconds 7/10 14 I Wish You - syrupy self indulgent track doesn't have a good structure all over the place too much going on vocally. a bit too one dimentional, way too pop and dull for me 3/10
April 6, 200817 yr Not released until 14th April. Might close this until the release date. Thought about this some more and I am going to close it now. This condones downloading leaked versions and I am not happy with that at all. Pm me about this if there is a problem, thanks. ;) Edited April 6, 200817 yr by Flatcap

April 6, 200817 yr Migrate - ADORE this and have done since she performed it on SNL, I can't wait to hear this clubbing! The intro is amazing, I love the whole whistle register thing which we don't hear much of anymore, amazing. 10/10 Touch My Body - I quite like it now, but it's not really a secret that i've never been too crazy about it. Nice little track, but for me it should have stayed on the album, not that it's bad, but I think stronger tracks could have lead the album... 7/10 Cruise Control - Love this! It reminds me a bit of Shake It Off but better. :P I love the bridge. The 2nd verse is a bit WTF but I think it works, really good track but not really single worthy I don't think. Simply because of Mariah's Jamaican accent on the 2nd verse. :heehee: It'll freak out the general public I think. :( 9/10 I Stay In Love - For me (thus far) it's the best song on the album. Totally reminiscent of WBT for me, or the way I felt when I first heard WBT. The notes at the end are gorgeous and the lyrics are cool too, amazing. 10/10 Side Effects - Another one I ADORE. Not particularly for the track itself or anything but because of the lyrics - it's very Tommy Mottola related. If you listen carefully to the lyrics you can hear that she's describing their relationship and personal tracks like that always get me. Plus in the words of Jakey "electro Mariah really works". 9/10 I'm That Chick - Now I imagined this to be a standout when I first heard it, but now i've heard the rest I think it would put it about half way down if I was putting them in order or best to worst. It's nowhere near the best song on the album but it's far from the worst too. Damn catchy and really summery, but I was expecting a little bit more "oomph!" if you get my drift? 8/10 Love Story - I'm with my fellow Geordie, the bitches at the start annoy me. The lyrics are nice and stuff but it's just a pretty ordinary ballad, nothing on I Stay In Love for me. I think it'll grow on me. 7/10 I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time - Again, i'm with Mikal, this reminds me SO much of Your Girl but again - better. The really "shout it out" kind of lyrics get me going, just really cool, nothing fancy, not major OTT production just a nice singalong track that I love. 9/10 Last Kiss - It's a bit bland and should have been replaced with something more uptempo, it's a skip track for me thus far. It's not bad by any means but the album wouldn't exactly be worse off for not having it. 6/10 Thanx For Nothin' - Love this one too, it reminds me of one of my favourite Mariah tracks of all-time - The Roof (from Butterfly). Really moody kind of ballad, lyrics i'm sure everyone can relate to also. A fan of this one. :D 9/10 O.O.C. - I thought I would love this but i'm not really "feeling it" at the moment, it reminds me of something that I can't put my finger on. Maybe something by Christina Milian? It just doesn't really go anywhere, which is a shame because I was excited about this track because she's talked about it a lot in interviews but then again I wasn't expecting to be so impressed by some of the others so it's all good. ^_^ 7/10 For The Record - Isn't this the Theme Music from the "M by Mariah Carey" advert? :o  I'm positive it is. It's alright, nothing amazing, but a nice little slow down track as we head towards the end of the album. ^_^ 6/10 Bye Bye - Despite only getting this yesterday I think i've possibly played it to death already and i'm sure in the long run I will love this a lot more than some of the above but I think i'm so excited about the rest of the album so i'm kind of neglecting it because i've already heard it. Really meaningful lyrics, love the synths, but it's beaten by I Stay In Love for me. :o 9/10 I Wish You Well - A less dramatic Fly Like A Bird I feel, not a fan of it really. No really great lyrics, no great hook or melody. Just the voice really, which is sounding in fine shape, but another one the album could have done without. 7/10 Overll - J'ADORE END OF STORY THANKS.
April 7, 200817 yr 1. Migrate - When I first heard the live version I considered it ok, but now it's far more than OK. I can't stop migrating myself to dance :kink: 9/10 2. Touch My Body - A definate grower, I can't stop singing it now, but it's not the best first single imo. 7/10 3. Cruise Control - This is okay, I think there's better on the album, I do like her Jamaican accent tho, I don't see much point in Damian being on this track 6/10 4. I Stay In Love - Yes! One of my faves from the album, it's so cute and I love it 8/10 5. Side Effects - I really like this track, it's probably one of my faviourite upbeats on the album and Young Jezzys voice is rather sexual, so it's a winner 8/10 6. I'm That Chick - One of my faviourite Mariah songs ever recorded, so many people dislike this one, but I love it and I hope it's a single 10/10 7. Love Story - This song is mint, I love it. It's another classic Mariah toone. 9/10 8. I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time - So catchy, it's one of those "cheer me up" songs and it works 9/10 9. Last Kiss - This has a nice little chorus, but it's a track I usually skip. 7/10 10. Thanx 4 Nothin' - I really like this toone, it's Mariah's vocals on the chorus, it gives me chills 8/10 11. O.O.C - It's nice, a bit mediocre and probably one I'd skip 7/10 12. For The Record - I love this track, one of my faviourite ballads 9/10 13. Bye Bye - Another amazing track, reminds me of Don't Forget About Us (one of my fave Mariah songs) 9/10 14. I Wish You Well - This is a nice album closer, not much to it. 6/10 Overall: 8/10 A good follow-up to Mimi, but she needs to not rely on the formula of the Mimi success.

April 8, 200817 yr My review time :w00t: 1: Migrate- To kick things off we have a banger in the extreme. This song seems like it was born just to be awesome... Mariah informs us about sipping Grigio slow... and throwing something on to feature her hips and accentuate her... um... well... 9/10 2:Touch My Body- This song... I LURVE THIS SONG!!! Honestly... the youtube... the hook(seriously Touch My Body? genius!) 10/10 3:Cruise Control- Breezy, islandy... just a chill lay back song... definately a grower. 8/10 4: I Stay In Love- Now for the ballad... this honestly isn't my favorite song on the record... it probably will grow eventually but for now 7/10 5: Side Effects- Another club banger with very personal lyrics... definately a huge grower and currently 9/10 6: I'm That Chick- AWESOME TO THE 10.5 MILLION DEGREE :) Personally I think the live version adds a little more energy, but this one is a rather chill take on that... 10/10 7:Love Story- Deeply sweet... against popular opinion I really love this song... it's just beautiful and sweet. 9/10 8:I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time- THIS SONG MAKES IT"S PRESENCE KNOWN... "the our love is stronger than any drug" and chorus kills this track personally definate single... 10/10 9:Last Kiss- Very sweet and beautiful... love this song too as well... simply melody which spirals into an explosive ending 9/10 10:Thanx 4 Nothin- The beginning of this song is amazing... unfortunately I feel this track loses something in the end 9/10 11: O.O.C.- The "it's forever" parts throughout the song and the whole french, spanish( to a Puerto Rican she sounds pretty convincing) make this song it a favorite... makes me feel a little O.O.C. every time I hear it. 10/10 12:For The Record- Ummm... so far I don't get much of the hype around this... the sighs are good and and the whistle is good but for me it lacks something... 7/10 13: Bye Bye- I definately can relate to this stunner of a track... it nearly made me cry... very truely special and I really hope this catches on and becomes her 19th #1 10/10 14- I Wish You Well- Imagine The Wind, Vanishing, and Fly Like A Bird mixed all into one and you get this track... and amazingly enough it creates it's own personal memories through this song... I have to perform a song sometime this week and it will either be this or Bye Bye guaranteed 10/10 Thanks for reading this review :) I'll probably update what I feel as time goes on as I just got to listen today :P
April 8, 200817 yr listening to this for the first time now as a HUGE fan of Mimi...I'll give my views on it when I've listened a few times

April 10, 200817 yr I am going to do a full review later, but for now i'll keep it short. I am absolutely amazed by this album. Her best to date. I never thought she'd be able to improve on The Emancipation Of Mimi; but holy-god has she done! Everytrack is, imo, great and beautiful. This is by far my favourite album of all time!
