Posted April 9, 200817 yr LEONA’S GOT THE SPIRIT J/Syco Music's Latest U.K. Diva Will Debut at #1 April 9, 2008 Clive Davis has another winner and he has Simon Cowell to thank. Leona Lewis, who catapulted to fame in her native U.K. after winning that country’s televised X Factor talent competition launched by Idol Cowell, will debut at #1 on next week’s HITS Album Sales chart with her debut Spirit, edging near 200k, though the final total will probably closer to 190k. That’s based on one-day sales reports from our crack team of retail reporters around the country who are still standing. Lewis’ album has already spawned the hit single, “Bleeding Love,” as Team RCA, led by Davis and EVP Richard Palmese, bring the song all the way home. WB Nashville’s James Otto is the next highest bow, with 50-60k, while Christian-surf rockers P.O.D.’s new INO/Columbia album, When Angels and Serpents Dance, could high step its way to 40k give or take, depending on the religious bookstore factor. Nine Inch Nails’ Null Corp./RED instrumental album, already available via the band’s website, will hit the streets in physical form with about 25-30k in sales. The new album from Hollywood Records YouTube breakout Marie Digby will Unfold with just shy of 20k in sales, the same amount expected for Island/IDJ rockers Ashes Divide’s Keep Telling Myself It’s Alright, the band formed by A Perfect Circle’s Billy Howerdel with veteran drummer Josh Freese. Next week, it’s all about Island/IDJ’s Mariah Carey album, E=MC2, which hits retail on the heels of two appearances on American Idol and one next Monday (4/14) on Oprah as well as the smash hit single, “Touch My Body.” The market was up 4% vs last week, down 24% vs. same week last year, which was Easter, and now down 12% year-to-date.
April 9, 200817 yr YAY FOR LEONA! :w00t: Oh and nice to see them setting the scene for Mariah's album next week. :kink:
April 9, 200817 yr I'm confused. Does this mean she has a strong lead at #1 at the moment? Or will it be close?
April 9, 200817 yr Author I'm confused. Does this mean she has a strong lead at #1 at the moment? Or will it be close? They are certain she will be #1. She will also sell by the end of the week about 190-200k :)
April 9, 200817 yr I find it quite interesting [and amusing] that she's going to have higher first week sales in the UK, than in the USA!
April 9, 200817 yr she might do the double if her downloads increase once again It's certainly possible now that the album is heading for #1...
April 10, 200817 yr it would never be possible that she would have higher sales in the US, seeing as how she was such a Giant PHENOMENON in her native country. I thought she woud sell 50 or 60k first week but i guess she can do it all (i bought the cd by the way)
April 10, 200817 yr earlier in the year it was all about Natasha getting to No.3! I think Leona will hang around for ages...not plummet like Natasha did...
April 10, 200817 yr I don't see her selling more than 1million copies of the album in the US overall, the album hasn't got legs and Bleeding Love is by far the highlight. She's got enough money pumped into her from Clive Davis to not fall too drastically in the weeks to come and I am sure he will make sure she gets at least a Grammy nomination later this year with Bleeding Love. And I very much doubt it will be as much as 200k, I would say 170k is more reasonable. Mariah will definitely knock her off the top spot the week after. And Madonna will then reduce their sales later this month. Once Bleeding Love has faded I would say Spirit will be on about 400k. I would say a further 100k per single release will be generated in album sales. Touch My Body should be #1 again next week, I don't think Leona can do the double, Mariah is going up a gear with US promo so it will help both single and album.

I think leona's album will def sell over one million copies in the usa, just look at better in time, she sang it on the tv once and it is at number 13 on usa itunes, meaning it will make the hot 100 next week... she is going to sell well :P

I dont mean to offend you but I think your being very conservative with your estimates, how can you very much doubt it will be near 200K, when HHD( an incredibly reliable source) have said it will be at least 190K. Too say the album hasn't got legs is rediculous, what basis have you for that when it hasn't even been released  Mariah's downloads fell off by 41% percent this week, and leona moved back up to 2, I wouldn't say thats exactly falling away  . Im sorry, I know your post was fine, but it just came across as very, I dunno looking at the bleakest scenario possible, almost like you really don't like her. Obviously I don't know that and its cool if you don't but thats how it came across.

All they have going for them is their predictions based on sources. They were WAY off on DAY26's estimates for #1 last week. It wouldn't be unusual if her sales were 20k under or even over.
April 10, 200817 yr What i meant is it hasn't debuted on the chart yet. i know its been released, but what i meant is how can it be said it hasn't got good legs (All you have too do is look at the UK chart and see very much the opposite)when we don't know that because its only its first week of release. We will find that out when the weeks roll by. Sorry i should have made my post more clear :)
April 11, 200817 yr I think it will defo sell over 1 million copies in the US! Well done for Better in time too! Didn't know that was doing that well,
April 14, 200817 yr Firstly, I would like to say congratulations to Leona!; #1's are hard to get this year! And the album will have great legs! I think the fact that the two biggest diva's in the world are releasing around the same time will increase the sales of "Spirit".
