I seriosuly never understood this whole bananarama thing its the same bubblegum pop over and over again and could this chicks really sing they were hardly respected or had any credibility to them.

And whats up with them singin all at the same time during the versus of the song why never individually??

This chicks never did any balllads and no wonder Siobah left the group was becoming a joke.

And they haven't even made any impact on pop culture in the same way as the spice girls who "Everybody" still "Remember" while bananarama are...forgotten completely "Worldwide".

Whats your guys opinion about this girlband who never evolved "Musically" it was always cheesy poppy dancey pop songs.

i love some of thesir songs but most of it is just to....eww cheesy & camp for my taste.

...... wait till russt sees this!

musically they were confetti... but pop does need something light and cheesy. i dont really like them and will never forgive them for destroying 'venus' (a truely awful version) and 'na na hey hey kiss him goodbye' (both songs were one hit wonders originally and both from early 1970).

they were highly popular and statistically were for a long time the uk's biggest selling girl group. (i suspect that both girls aloud and the sugababes though will soon take that title if they havnt already).

i liked 'shy boy' and 'trick of the night'.... but thats it.

You are surely having a laugh..... aren't you?????????

I would say they are Britain's GREATEST girl-band of all-time.

I think I'll leave it to Russ, to dismantle the rest of your post as every single statement is factually incorrect. But hey no doubt you've taken the Gospel of Louis Walsh & Simon Cowell who have both slagged them off. Probably due to the fact that Bananarama have correctly heavily criticised the pair. Especially as one of the first jobs Simon Cowell had in the industry was as a Record Company rep at SAW for Bananarama. But Bananrama quickly fired him within two weeks as they realised he was a moron who knew nothing about music. Remember Bananarama MANAGED themselves throughout their entire career. They choose who would produce them, etc. So they are hardly bimbos in the same league as Girls Aloud or Sugababes (who don't even own the rights to their own name FFS).

But in the meantime I'll leave it with the absolute contempt it deserves.

Everybody is entitled to their opinions. But let's just say yours is the opinion of a musical idiot.

happen so m8, but i prefer sugababes and girls aloud over the banana bints anyday.

.... and tbh i think you came on abit strong calling him a 'musical idiot' as they aint from the uk and have a different perspective on music. :)

I disagree I think I was being mild. Any one who regards Kate Bush as one of the worst singers of all time is a musical idiot. No debate needed as she always appears in the greatest female singers of all time.

As for from the USA perspective. How many hits have Girls Aloud or the Sugababes had in America?

Answer a big fat Zero. In stark contrast to the Pipettes who've enjoyed success in America, probably because the trio remind US Rock critics fondly of a certain British pop trio from the 1980s.

Because they are not good enough, especially compared to the likes of TLC, Destiny's Child, the Spice Girls, En Vogue, SWV, Salt n Pepa, etc.

Whilst Bananarama had 11 hits in the USA (one more than the Spice Girls managed, therefore they are statistically the most successful British girl-group in America!), including 3 Top10 hits (Cruel Summer #9 1983, Venus #1 1986 (Stock Aitken & Waterman's first USA #1 produced single), & I Heard A Rumour #4 1987).

They also had substantial success across the world including having #1 albums (with Wow) in Australia, Germany & Japan (English language) charts.

Compare that to Girls Aloud, whose sales are virtually all in the UK & Ireland. They've had minor success in Australia but have failed to have any Top20 hits there. Whilst they have failed to score any Top10 hits outside of Britain & Ireland since Jump in 2003.

To be fair to the Sugababes, they've had substantial success in Europe (& lesser success in Australia & New Zealand) thanks to the connections of their manager Cameron McVeey (husband of Neneh Cherry), whom had previously managed Neneh & her brother Eagle-Eye Cherry, before competing with OMD's Andy McCluskey (Atomic Kitten) & forming a Girl Group. But they've done nothing in America.

As I said again, an American who was not around when they were successful criticising Bananarama when they are the most successful in terms of hit singles in his country, is an idiot IMHO. Especially a band who had a punk ethos, managed themselves, because they did not trust other people, who moved from production team to production team (Swain & Jolley, Stock, Aitken & Waterman, then Youth) with success and have had a run of 25 UK Top 40 chart success over 24 years is not to be sniffed at.

I especially find it ironic you criticising me. Especially as you were happy to criticise another poster for making equally stupid & factually incorrect points regarding Kim Wilde a while back.

Therefore, I'm more than within my rights for criticising Dino's post as it has about as much accuracy running through it than an Al Fayed/Heather Mills conversation.

So just because someone seesm to think Kate bush aint all that that autmatically makes them an idiot???

Wow i've never once dissed her music her voice just isn't all that for me damn you seem abit oversensistive.

Bananrama are has beens thats a fact B)

Whats does this has to do with kim wilde damn?? calm rthe hell down!!!

OMG Dino, sometimes you should just stay silent  :D

BTW I liked Bananarama, one of my favourite band of my childhood and I can still remember them!

I know their later stuff became a bit cheesy but for me the world girlband ever has to be DESTINY'S CHILD - Kelly's alright but Beyonce :puke2:

In this day in age, you couldn't get away with an act like Bananarama. They never knowingly sung live in public, they never toured, they didn't look conventional (in their early days anyway) and - basically - they didn't give a toss what the public thought of them! But I loved them, and looking back, you can pick a generous handfull of tracks that are great fun. Acts like Girls Aloud are under pressures that are typical of todays pop climate, and were almost completely unheard, prior to the 90s.

Yes, I agree these comments are generally ill-founded and using Bananarama as a cast study of a credible art-form is daft. They fronted decent pop very well at the time and I would more than happy listen to their best of!

Bananrama are has beens thats a fact B)

in the same way as the spice girls who "Everybody" still "Remember"

But the Spice "Girls" are "still" "active". They "came" along "fourteen" years or "so" after "Bananarama" "who" had already "split" by "then" - although "they" reformed.

To champion the Spice Girls for their heinous male-helmed assault on the easily impressionable and tone deaf and deride Bananarama for simply having a good time, fully in control of their own careers (and actually leaving a legacy of at least ten listenable songs, unlike the Spices) is ludicrous.

Ok, you aren't a "musical idiot" but would you agree, in all fairness, that you're a "conventional idiot"?

I don't usually post in here but I do view, and this made me LOL.

That is all.
