thats a pretty tame album list, lots of 'mums' music in there..
the albums chart during the whole of the 60s was pretty uninspiring. There wasn't much competition and there was an abundance of middle of the road acts on the albums chart. There was also a dearth of number ones due to overall low album sales providing a lack of competition - The Sound Of Music reached #1 a few weeks after this chart and it kept climbing to and dropping off #1 all the way through into late 1968 with a total of 70 weeks at the top! Between May 1963 and December 1967 only the Beatles, the Stones, Bob Dylan, The Sound Of Music and The Monkees reached #1 - a period of 230+ weeks. The dominance of these 4 acts and the film soundtrack was broken on 6 January 1968 by that well known innovator - Val Doonigan!

in the early 70's when i first got the nme there were albums like that wot had been in the album chart for 250 weeks....

i think we forget that in the 60's, the mid 60's at that, pop music was still a 'teen' thing. it was for people mainly in the 15-25 age group. it only really reached younger fans with in the glam era when donny osmond, michael jackson and david cassidy were the inspiration for 'teenybop', and pop music became accessable to a younger audience.

so its no surprise really that the mid 60's album charts were dominated by 'mums' music.
