Posted May 27, 200619 yr after about 5 years of money problems this seems to have got the green light. why? isnt this one of the worse ideas in british film history? starring Vinnie Jones and Shane Richie and directed by Peter Richardson (who supposed to have done lots of brilliant comic strip stuff in the early 1980s and also did Chirchill a few years ago which was not that great) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/9d/Churchill_The_Hollywood_Years_film.jpg

May 28, 200619 yr Author Is it supposed to be like the classic Carry On films?? yes of course, but somehow i dont think they would have the cash to digitally recreate sid james http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/44/Sidjames.jpg ha ha ha!!!!
May 30, 200619 yr But they can't possibly imagine that this film will be anything like the classic films. All the original cast, Sid James, Joan Sim, Charles Hawtry, Kenneth Williams etc are all dead. Those people on the front cover don't look right. Why don't people just realise that keep remaking stuff isn't as good? What made those films good is their cheapness and the classic characters. I hope this film flops.
May 30, 200619 yr It'll be absolutely horrendous......... And let's face it, Guy Ritchie with his first two films - "Lock Stock..." and "Snatch" has satirised London and Londoners far more effectively than a pathetic attempt to re-hash the deader than dead "Carry On..." Franchise ever could They tried to update "Carry On.." a few years back with Julian Clary doing the Kenneth Williams role, it was fukkin' terrible......

Franchise ever could then again if they made it a guy ritchie film would think it would get more fans than revolver ever did  yeah should gangsta it up rather than some boff about some limo film :puke2:
May 30, 200619 yr Now days they can't think up new ideas and have to resort to remaking old things that should stay dead and buried.
May 31, 200619 yr Author Now days they can't think up new ideas and have to resort to remaking old things that should stay dead and buried. well dont think its a case of remaking anything (even though i would expect all the same jokes and puns are gonna be used) more in the box of adding another film to the 'franchize' (of course carry on from a time before 'franchizes').

Suppose not, though I was speaking more generally, not just this one film. Yes, I agree that there will be the same puns etc.
June 2, 200619 yr quite how My Family got such massive viewing figures baffles me hugely - surely the least funny sitcom of the past decade? This film, like the last one with Julian Clary, is a waste of time. Carry On was made solely by the cast - not the budgets, stories or settings. And all the great cast members are now dead - so this is utterly pointless.

June 3, 200619 yr I think that a market can be there for a new sort of British Comedy franchise, there are a lot of multi-talented comedy actors out there (for example the cast of "Green Wing" are all utterly fantastic and if you could build something round that set of actors then that could possibly work...), but it could never, ever be "Carry On". "Carry On" is a representation of Britain in the 60s and 70s, what you need to do is do something that represents the UK of the new millennium....

I'm surprised you say they are fantastic. Is the main one called Alan? He really annoys me, I just don't find it funny at all.

You're kidding right? Green Wing is the best comedy prog since "League of Gentlemen", and it's far better than overhyped crud like "Little Britain"..... I wasn't thinking so much of a "Green Wing" film as such, just using the cast in a different sort of set up. The cast are incredibly talented, the best ensemble cast I've seen in a UK comedy in a very long time; The actor who plays Alan Statham is a truly brilliant comic actor with a razor sharp sense of timing, the best portrayal of uptight, repressed neurosis I've seen since John Cleese played Basil Fawltey.....

And GW is very much 'over-hyped', everyone seems to like it. I really can't see why. How can you find him funny?? Or even compare him to Cleese??? Still, each to their own...
June 4, 200619 yr Author No one can be like Kenneth Williams. did you watch that fantaboulosa show on bbc? it was supposed to be very good
