June 4, 200619 yr Author I think that a market can be there for a new sort of British Comedy franchise, there are a lot of multi-talented comedy actors out there but it could never, ever be "Carry On". "Carry On" is a representation of Britain in the 60s and 70s, what you need to do is do something that represents the UK of the new millennium.... dont no if carry on was really a representation of Britain in the late 50s / 1960s / 1970s or just the usual British humour of boobys and knob jokes that there always have been. i guess are an establishing part of British culture since the dawn of our countries conception.  I just think things like American Pie have upped the ante in recent years, and think any new carry on film will fail like when the ones that they dont show on tv these days tried to keep up with the mid 1970s sex comedies like confessions and mary millington in Come Play with Me. for one i happened to click on to bbc 4 the other night where ade edmonson was on the toilet live on stage with the bonzo dog doodar band and singing a song about how he was turtling and how he could do with a very large dump. very funny, should be a single!!!
June 4, 200619 yr I certainly wouldn't compare it to The League Of Gentlemen. And GW is very much 'over-hyped', everyone seems to like it. I really can't see why. How can you find him funny?? Or even compare him to Cleese??? Still, each to their own... Green Wing is a rarity - something that actually lives up to the hype... Believe me, I'm incredibly resistant to hype and have a very keen built-in bullsh!t detector, so for me to rate it so highly is incredibly unusual... And of course Statham is funny, my god.... You're criticising the actor for playing character who is supposed to be annoying, irritating, utterly objectionable and a total mass of neuroses....?? I think you may be missing the point to be honest..... The comparison to Basil Fawltey is a perfectly good one, both are irritating, objectionable characters who are totally neurotic and psychologically unstable. And both are brilliant comedy creations....

The program doesn't make me laugh, if anything it's actually a bit embarrassing to watch.
